  FS: House Stuff, Car Magazines
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 05-05-2009, 08:36 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (2)

Pick this shit up...........

Got a TON of car magazines, pick and choose, the rest will be thrown away. Sport Compact Car, Modified, Car and Driver, Motor Trend, 4-wheeler, jeep magazine, etc.

Also have a coffee table, if youve ever been in my house youve noticed it, its wood, and the top has bubbles in it from never using coaster. Great for a college apartment, long rectangular and sturdy. You could have three grown men on it and it wouldnt flinch.

Ergonomic desk chair, one of those fancy things.

I will ber updating this, but im moving out so shit has go to go!

  FS: Chairs, tables, Sega Dreamcast

I'm moving to a new place in the fall, and I need/want to clear out some furniture. Here's what I've got. All stuff must be gone by this Friday. I live at Madison Manor and have the Escape here, so I can deliver if your car is equally as impractical as the Miata.

Two chairs - $40 for the set. They're from Ikea and are in great shape. Probably three years old. Grey metal frames with darker gray fabric cushions.

End table thingy. Take it. Was given to me last year. The top comes off so you can store jank inside.

If you take it, I promise to remove the dust from the lid.

Coffee table - $15. Light wood, from Target two years ago. Has a convenient carry handle in the middle so it's as outdoorsy as you are. Or something.

Awesome shag rug not included.

I also have a Sega Dreamcast that I want gone, because I never play it. It was given to me when a friend moved, so it's free for you too. It's the black "sports edition" and has three controllers I think. Also has a few games - primarily sports like NFL/NBA 2k1 (old skool) and hopefully Crazy Taxi if I can find it.

Email me at thiewejm [at] jmu [dot] edu or PM here if you're interested.

2010 Legacy pictures and review *and Outback pics*
Posted by: Ryan T - 05-04-2009, 01:45 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (20)

So Subaru dropped off a 2010 Legacy for us to look at/play with for a few days. I was gone for the weekend but saw it when I came in at noon today and just had to take it out for a good thrashing with it at 171 miles. Here's a quick little review of it:

Styling: Looks like a mix of a Maxima and an Accord to me. It is taller and wider than the previous generation Legacy, to the point of being very noticable as soon as you look it it. While it doesn't seem to sit any higher from the drivers seat the car is noticably bigger. There is much more back seat room (our 6'3" sales manager is comfortable back there) and the trunk has more space than the previous model.

Interior: Like I said above, it's larger inside. The controls are similiar to the old body style with a few changes. You now have a knob to manual change radio stations without having to continuously press the "seek" button to change frequencies. The steering wheel mouted controls have gone to toggle switches instead of the old buttons which is much easier to use, in my opinion. The Navigation system is pretty much the same; intuitive and easy to use. Seats don't feel much different either. Harman Kardon Stereo System is excellent but the built in equalizer leaves something to be desired from a tunability standpoint. Heated seats are nice and warm. New gearshift design takes a little getting used to but is ultimately an improvement. The old manumatic gate shifter (push up to gear up and down to gear down) gives way to paddle shifters in this model, which were available only on the GT model in the previous generation.

Driving: It drives great. Feels a little heavier than the previous generation (because it is) but carries it's weight well. The model we were given has the 3.6L 6-cylinder engine with I believe 263hp. It has plenty of get up and go at low rpms. The transmission revmatches on downshifts under heavy breaking or spirited driving. It almost always does it when in manual mode and occassionally in automatic mode if you are really giving it the beans. The manual setting on the transmission is much more responsive than the previous generation delivering upshifts and donwshifts as soon as you request it...not 2 seconds later. The suspension is sporty, but not as sporty as the previous GT model. It has a more relaxed comfortable highway ride but is certaintly not out of place on a backroad. It feels solid and the steering is responsive, but it does carry some heft with it.

Enough with the blabbering, here's the pics:

  12" Kicker Subwoofer
Posted by: balactm - 05-04-2009, 02:13 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (1)

from my craigslist ad:

"12" CompVR Dual 4 Ohmn Loaded Vented Box Enclosure. I bought this for 140 new. I love the sound, hasn't been abused. Only ran the amp at 3/4 power, and it kicks really nice. Trying to downgrade, it's a little too much bass for me, plus I would like some more room in my trunk. It's in a great sounding box that's filled with fiberfill and ported. External connections for ease. I'm asking $100 OBO. There are no tears in the cone, it's super clean and sounds awesome."

Lookin for a DD under $2-3k ; Entertain me
Posted by: kcook - 05-01-2009, 08:28 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (21)

I've been driving my parents other car for a week and I'm actually enjoying not driving the wrx everyday. I really have no desire to drive my car for a while(just want to get it ready before hyperfest and the following track events. I have a few things to finish).

I will have owned the car for 4 years next month. For about a year I've really wanted a DD and never went through with it. I loved driving my car everyday. That's why I bought it.

Now, Since last month its kind of a pita to go from point A to B meaning work, school and running errands. Ive installed 2 Sparco Evo seats and a Roll Bar (soon to have harnesses) which isn't practical in a street car. The car will have a new set of coilovers on the car in less than a few months as well. I had coilovers on my car for 2.5 years, I'm not trying to drive my car everyday with coilovers again. Its not just the seats and suspension that is making me want to get a DD, but I now want to keep the miles down and prevent anything from happening on the street ie: accidents, more door dings, driving with a roll bar, etc.

Onto the DD... I'm looking for an import.. obviously something that's good on gas. Ive always wanted a hatch or 240 coupe, but anything reliable will do.

  JAVA programmer job post
Posted by: stevegula - 05-01-2009, 02:08 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (5)

I need to find a person to ultimately serve as my replacement within my company as I make an effort to leave. Anyone here have any recommendation on things to post / look for to make sure I have some decent candidates? The job involves working with a WebLogic/J2EE application sporting an XML database on the backend.

I'm actually a PHP programmer forced to work on a Java app, so I'm not sure what kind of things to even mention. Hell, I don't even know what the latest JVM version number is.

I know a lot of people thought about going to Salem for the auto x and decided not to because of exams and the distance.. Found this on VaDriven, looks like the local hburg guys are gearing up for a meet and cruise this sunday if anyone is interested. Should be a nice little break from studying.
