Which of your eyes is dominant?
Posted by: BLINGMW - 10-25-2010, 04:20 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (18)

I just realized I'm a freak. Apparently (if I'm doing these tests right), I have no ocular dominance. No wonder I can't shoot a damn handgun with both eyes open very well. Ok, I'm not good at it either way, but I'll stick with that excuse for now.

How about you?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocular_dominance

This one seems to be simplest:

The Porta test. The observer extends one arm, then with both eyes open aligns the thumb or index finger with a distant object. The observer then alternates closing the eyes or slowly draws the thumb/finger back to the head to determine which eye is viewing the object (i.e. the dominant eye)

When I do that, I see two thumbs, and they're pretty equally strong. If I focus on the thumb, then I see two targets. I didn't know that wasn't normal. :dunno: But I asked a few in the office and some have trouble getting a positive result either, so maybe we're doing it wrong. Man, I'm glad I came to work today!

 Ticket advice...
Posted by: andrew_j - 10-22-2010, 02:21 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (36)

Okay so I normally really hate threads like this, but my gf got a ticket and has to go to court and she is very nervous. It is her first ticket. She asked me to post and look for some advice/reassurance on how exactly court will proceed and what to expect. Here is her exact thing that she wanted me to post:

"I was driving on 81 toward VT (coming back from a weekend at JMU) and got pulled over in Rockbridge/Lexington for going 88 in a 65 but the cop wrote the ticket for 80 in a 65. This is the first time I have ever been pulled over, let alone gotten a ticket, so I am going to court to try to get the ticket reduced/thrown out. I have some experience in court because I was a mock-lawyer for 4 years on my high school mock trial team. So I know basically how to dress and behave in court. However I need to know what to say and how to present my case and a basic outline of how the court will go as I have never experienced traffic court.

Also any tips on how to get out of this would be greatly appreciated! It was an accident. I was on the phone with Andrew talking about an issue with our chinchilla and was not paying attention. I have learned my lesson and do not speed any more so now I just need to get rid of this ticket and then I won't have to worry about this again! Thank you so much!

PS: I will bake anyone who gives good advice cookies! I go to Tech but am often at JMU visiting Andrew."

Trust me, she has learned her lesson from this. All that is left is the court and driver improvement course. Thanks guys.

 Project wrong wheel drive
Posted by: andrew_j - 10-19-2010, 07:14 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (35)

I posted up my intro thread a while ago. Link to my intro. I figured that it was time to make a "build thread"

The car as it sits has:
Koni yellow sp3 adjustable shocks
Ground control adjustable coilover sleeves
Extended top hats to correct shock postion from lowering
Bump stops have been halved as per ground controls direction
Apex'i WS2 exhaust (not a fart cannon)
AEM Short ram (DIY mod to convert to cold air coming this weekend.)
50%F 35%R Window tint
Rota Slips with continental extreme contact dws tires
OEM ITR lip with paint matched side
Wingless Trunk
DDM Tuning 55watt 6000k HID's, Nokya Yellow bulbs in the OEM foglights.
Sony HU, Pioneer components in the front, stock rears, 2 Kicker Comp 10's with Kenwood KAC8104D amp.

Boost is the plan if I keep it. I have been looking at E36's however I am having a hard time selling this car, its my baby. I know FWD is not optimal and Honda's are well just that Honda's. My goal is to break the typical mold with this car and use the car for track, autocross, and daily driving duties. Ideally I am going to try to get 300whp, but my focus is going to be getting as much torque out of my little LS as I can. I have seen people actually achieve ~290wtq and around 270whp. This is what I would like to see with boost around 4k rpm.

I took these pictures with my new dslr which is a Sony A230L. I am learning with it so be easy on me. If you have any suggestions in that department feel free to lmk.

This is my turbo parts list as it is (copied and pasted from a Honderp forum I frequent).

Turbo Build list ROUGH DRAFT:

straight line specialties mini log mani fold and 3in down pipe - $745
cxracing fmic - $73 Shipped
cxracing radiator full length dual core - $150 I believe...
Spal fans - idk $ but since I am keeping ac I need STRONG fans. Gonna set them up to push.
Garrett T3/T04e 50 Trim - $700
SRE FMIC Piping- $150
Fast-Turbo Oil Lines - $39
Tial 38mm wastegate - $235
Tial 50mm BOV - $225
10an fittings and hose (ebay) - $46 shipped
Full 3inch stainless exhaust (ebay) - $140 shipped
Allowance for misc welding by Shawn Ramey and parts I might have missed - $500
Clock pod (quad pods) - $70 shipped
Autometer Sport Comp Boost gauge - $60 shipped (Summit)
AEM wideband - $200
LSD - idk which one so I can't say a cost.

Parts total = $3183 approximately

Ideally I can source some parts used, and cut cost. I'd like to get the turbo, wideband, boost gauge, BOV and wastegate all used. Maybe even the radiator. I know of one that might be available actually.

I am gonna let the tuner do the EMS and tuning in one go. My plan is to buy all my parts, keeping it as cheap as possible, then pull the motor have it sleeved, and the head freshened up. Once it is back, and re installed I will break it in, install the turbo junks, and trailer it to a tuner. I am gonna change my goal to this; I want 2 tunes. Something around 300whp to daily drive with, and autox, and one balls out tune for drag racing/shutting down haters. Essentially the second tune will be maxing out my setup. Also the fart cannon 3inch exhaust will have the muffler replaced with a black vibrant stealth muffler. I hate fart tubes.

It's an LS. Its really slow and really low. Let me know. I have some new pads on the way which will be installed this weekend as well as ATE superblue fbrake fluid.

Anyone used priceline name your price?
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 10-19-2010, 01:29 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (3)

Im thinking about using priceline to go on a last minute-ish flight overseas. Has anyone ever used the name your own price feature before?

How likely am I to get effed? How low can I expect to find a ticket? Prices right now are averaging 1200$, which was a jump over 300$ from just a few days ago!

I am also unsure about how their flexible flgiht times schedule works. The place I want to go is 7 hours ahead. In other words, at midnight on the 1st here, it is 7am on the 2nd there.

I want to leave on a friday, and be back home by the Sunday a week later. When I punch in the dates of 11/5/2010 and 11/14/2010 what are my possible arrival days there, and most importantly, getting back. According to their site for international stuff, you may arrive the next day, whcih is fine, because it's about a 17 hour trip, but for the return, does this mean I may not get back until that Monday?

It's time for a new car. Is this a good buy?

Good buy or not? Miles are a bit high and no existing warranty. Anything I need to watch out here?

FS: Brand New Ford keyless entry remote
Posted by: Jake - 10-18-2010, 10:38 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (2)

We bought this for our Escape and then the transmission grenaded itself. It's brand new and the buttons have been pressed maybe 5-6 times.

Should work with any Ford that uses the same remote. May work on the cars, just doesn't have the trunk popper button.

$10 and I'll bring it to whatever motorsport event you're at.

 iRacing?
Posted by: BLINGMW - 10-17-2010, 07:08 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (150)

Anyone tried iRacing yet? I'll need something to get me through the winter. I like the idea of structured races and real tracks, though I understand it's a bit on the expensive side. I wasn't impressed by the feel of rFactor and like LFS but for the lack of real tracks. Of course, if you all are playing console racers, maybe I just need to get a console. :dunno:

 Project "Urban Truck"
Posted by: balactm - 10-15-2010, 06:42 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (3)

As many of you know, I ended up buying the 08 Ridgeline I talked about in my yota thread. I finished signing the papers yesterday evening and did not have a chance to snap pictures, so today I was finally able to. A quick run down:

2008 Honda Ridgeline RT silver in color
38,345 miles
Certified Used, so it has another 5 years, 60k on the limited powertrain warranty
Extra, all inclusive warranty, covers everything, not just the limited powertrain

The reason I chose "Urban Truck" is because it's not really "truck" it has ifs all the way around, which is kind of lame for a truck. It also doesn't have a normal sized bed, but it's ok. Either way, I love the truck, and will refer to it as a truck regardless. It's great for running around town in, because of the suspension. It rides like almost like a sedan, and while delivering I can take turns a lot quicker than in my yota. It has the 5500 lb towing capacity with hitch receiver already installed.

This will stay stock because I need a reliable vehicle while working on the crx. I am interested in putting in a better sounds system because the stock one is pretty weak, and i'm pretty sure one of the speakers is already going out. I'd like to put a sub, sub amp, and 4 channel amp under the rear seat, and put in a new head unit and all new speakers. Other than that, it will stay as it sits for a loooonng time. especially since it's under warranty. I still have to check if messing with the stereo will void the warranty, so that may not even happen. Essentially my plans are to simply drive it. Take it on road trips, work with it when I need to, tailgate when i want to since it has the awesome in bed trunk with a drain plug Big Grin, probably take it camping, you know the fun stuff.

On with pictures.
