Speck skin/case for nuvi - Here, Take
Posted by: Goodspeed - 10-06-2010, 05:46 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

Through my own damn fault, Amazon sent me the wrong case for my Nuvi. It cost $8 and change. To send it back for a refund costs $8 and change. Fuggit, I'll give it to an MM'er for free then.

It fits the nuvi 205, 250, 260 and 270 models, standard screen size. I'll be at the VMP auto-x, karting whenever that is and misc. other events so if you want it, its yours.

  BBQ Ranch : This Wednesday!
Posted by: Jake - 10-04-2010, 10:52 PM - Forum: Campus Events - Replies (4)

My week is busy and crappy and no fun, so we're making our "off-week" social event relate 100% to awesome food.

Meet us at the bookstore on-campus at 6:15, and we'll roll over to BBQ Ranch. They're about 15 minutes north of town and have really great BBQ, hush puppays and fried pickles.

If you're coming from outside of town anyway (looking at you Chad) then meet us around 6:30 or so at the restaurant.

Doitdoit.

N.O.S. Wet Nitrous Kit w/ Lots of Extras
Posted by: bcashJMU - 10-03-2010, 10:11 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (2)

I have an N.O.S. wet nitrous kit for sale. I bought it and never had a chance to use it. The previous owner ran two bottles through it. It is a single fogger system with lots of extras including:
- 10lb bottle w/ mounting brackets and a bottle warmer to keep bottle pressure up
- 75- and 100-shot jets (100s installed now)
- Purge kit to fill the lines with nitrous before take off or as a show off purge (+25 ft plume)
- MSD Window RPM Switch to make sure the nitrous only activates through a certain range of RPMs
- Wide Open Throttle Switch that activates the nitrous when the pedal is pushed to the floor
- All solenoids, hoses, relays, wires, and other switches that are needed to complete the installation in your car.
This kit is a universal kit that can be used on any car as far as I know. Just about any car can handle the 75-shot without any modifications. On most everyday cars (stock and under 250hp) the 100-shot will need a timing retard of around 1.5 or 2 degrees. Other than that, any car should be able to handle this setup as long as it is in great condition performance-wise. These single fogger wet kits are simple and easy to install and maintain. They are one of the safest kits because they are so simple. Depending on your motor and which jets you use, you can add 75 to 150 hp instantly to your rear wheels with this setup.
All together new, this kit would total over $900. I am selling if for $350. If you are interested, you can contact me on here or via call/text at 7034738732. I have pics of the kit upon request.

My name is Brandon Cash. I am a sophomore Engineering student at JMU. I drive a "slightly" modified 1991 Pontiac Trans Am GTA. I have always loved classic american muscle cars and especially love working on them. My car is more suited toward road courses and drag strips but I want to become more experienced in small track racing. I have been told that Verona will be the next opportunity to test out my car on a track. Since I am new to this type of racing, I am looking for someone to work with me before Verona that knows how to race f-bodies. I really only have straight line experience with my car. Thanks in advance! Big Grin

  bad day for the Yota...:(
Posted by: balactm - 10-03-2010, 05:31 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (24)

So This past Thursday I was driving my truck around and it seemed a little sluggish, I thought, no big deal, it always feels sluggish, i've been driving jess's jeep and it just feels slow. Thursday night I was delivering for Campus Cookies and made a delivery to squire hill. As I pulled into the bottom of squire, it was idling at ~100 rpm...not good. So I shut it off, made the delivery and came back out to start her up, take her home and switch cars for the night. no dice. Wouldn't start, kept turning, no battery problems, nothing. Finally got her started, limped up devon lane where she then died at the light at port. Luckily for me, two of harrisonburg's finest were right behind me, and a tow truck (unfortunately teter's) was on port at a red light. Long story short, I got towed for a lovely fee back to my house where she sat til morning.

The next morning all i could think about was the crx, when it died like that on 64 and had jumped timing, so the first thing I did was check timing. check. major relief. pulled the plugs, wires, cap, noticed the rotor and cap were in terrible condition so made a trip to the zone and walked out with a new pair of headlights, air filter, cap, rotor, and pcv valve (it was pretty gunked up). She started right up. Unfortunately, everything was not alright. I changed the oil last week so i decided to check fluids. Oil - not good looking, a little bit of some odd discoloration. Checked the radiator, wasn't full, so I poured in half a bottle of coolant, then another half bottle of water, and then one more...eff. Checked the oil cap, major coolant in the oil. started her up to get warm and checked the dipstick, which was now covered in a coolant/oil mix. My day has been ruined. The car never overheated, or showed signs of overheating. The temp gauge works well and has never gone past halfway, and always starts on the coldside when it is in fact cold.

I know what you're thinking, "didn't he say there was a new jasper motor and transmission in this truck?" Why yes, yes i did. Or so I was told. I called the guy I bought the truck from and asked him plainly if it was indeed a new motor and tranny because I needed to know why I blew a headgasket on a 20,000 mile motor. He still says it's new. I called jasper who told me to find the jasper tag on the motor and give them the 6 digit warranty number. Again, no dice. The tag is no where to be found. There was a 6 digit number stamped on the radiator support, but that wasn't it. So, now i'm stuck will 2 cars that don't run. FML. I bought the truck so that I wouldn't have to worry about big things like a headgasket or timing chain while I was rebuilding the crx and had it off the road. Now, I have a truck with a blown head gasket making a lot of noise from the valves. Great. So as it stands now, I have to call the place that "performed" the work on the truck and see if they remember the truck, I have to call the previous owner and try and get the warranty number from him and then call a jasper dealer and see if they would even work on a truck that doesn't have the jasper tag, with the warrant info on the engine. I'm at the point where i need something reliable, with a real warranty that I know exists. I test drove a 08 ridgeline and absoutely love it. It seats 5 people, can get around in the snow, has a "bed" and is a very nice ride. It has 38,000 miles on it and it still under the manufacturer's warranty for another 5 years or 60k. I know it's not a real truck, but it does have a 5000 lb towing capacity, which is enough for what I would use it for.

I don't really know what to do with the truck at this point. I want to just sell it and be done with it. For as much work as I've put into this damn thing, it just isn't worth it in my eyes to keep it around. In a perfect world, I'd like to have the warranty work done on it, and then just sell it for like 3500-4000 if i could even get that (there are some crazy people out there). Anyone want to buy a truck?

Other than this giant problem, I drove the truck 11000 miles in 6 months, and never had serious problems with it, just little things that bugged the crap out of me, like the freaking wiring system. Totally effed. Also, after replacing the downpipe, gaskets, and o2 sensor, and checking the wiring from the o2 sensor to the ecu, the freaking CEL was still on for that damn thing. No idea there. I had been thinking lately with all these new noises that I really was lied to about the engine, because he also told me that the o2 sensor was fixed, and that obviously is not the case. I think I'm going to be lucky to get 2 grand out of it, which is a hell of a loss.

Advice about Bike accident with car...
Posted by: V1GiLaNtE - 10-03-2010, 04:34 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (19)

Long story short..

Tuesday morning I was on campus riding my bike to class.. I was riding around campus using the usual paths because riding on campus SUCKS and there are not appropriate bike lanes to ride in..(only east campus)... I was maneuvering my way around pedestrians on the sidewalk near the post office and got hit by a car. I'm physically fine and my bike only suffered a bent handlebar. My approach on the situation was no harm no foul.. He said his car was fine and I wasn't dead so all was good. He got my name and phone from me and I never thought to get his as I had an exam to get to in 10 minutes( yes hindsight 20/20 I should have stuck around by I don't have time to deal with BS if I'm not dead or injured..) Well he called the JMU PD and I had to come in and talk with some officer and let him take pics of bike for a report.. He basically threatened me with a ticket of "leaving the scene of an accident" until we got this thing resolved...

Basically my thoughts are I swung out to get around people on the busy sidewalk and got sideswiped.. Now the guy is running around getting estimates with the expectations that I'm going to pay to fix his car.. His " cheapest" estimate(and only estimate I'm assuming) from Michaels autobody is $1200 to replace and paint a passenger quarter panel and headlight on a 2001 chevy blazer.. I'm calling absolute BS on this.. He says there is a dent on the corner of the quarter panel and the headlight is cracked.. Body shop told him it wouldn't be "structurally" sound to pop out dent..

As far as I'm concerened (and waiting on cop to confirm.. EDIT: NO EYE WITNESS ACCOUNTS) there are no eye witness accounts of what happened and is basically his word against mine.. Should I tell the guy to piss off about fixing his car and see what happens (court?) or what kind of other things should be doing to work this situation out..

  2002 Passat GLX Wagon
Posted by: V1GiLaNtE - 10-01-2010, 09:20 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (13)

Most of you know the specs on the car... But it's time for it to go.. If anyone in MM is actually interested in the car PM me and we can work out a special MM price.. Otherwise $50 to any MMer that finds me a buyer...

2002 Passat Wagon GLX

Candy White with Beige Leather

30v V6 with Tiptronic
2 Remote Keys
Leather Interior
Heated/Power Seats
Monsoon Sound System
Climatronic
Power everything
Sunroof
Power/Folding/Heated Mirrors
134,xxx miles as it is my daily driver.

Second owner. Parents purchased this car new from the Brown's VW in Richmond, VA and was garaged kept all its life except for the past year when I was in College.
It had 114k on the clock when I got it and I would say 75% of that was highway mileage from my step mother driving to DC on 95.

Clean and Clear Title.

In the past year of ownership I have replaced the following:

Valve Cover Gaskets
Serpentine Belt
Crankcase Hose
Sparkplugs
Cabin Air Filter
OEM Fuel Filter
Alternator
Control Arms (Meyle HD)
Tie Rod Ends (Meyle HD)
Inner Tie Rods
Pads and Rotors (Meyle + PBR Deluxe)
4 new Tires.( THey are different brands due to randomly driving over nails and having to replace the rears.)
The Ones in the back are Falken Ziex 912's and the fronts are the brand new OEM Eagles. All four have less than 10k miles on them.

During my parents ownership the car has ALWAYS been dealer serviced including:

Timing Belt @ 100k
Thermostat
Water Pump
Tensionor
Both Catalytic Converters
Rear Rotors
Oil Changes
Interior Trim Pieces

I have ALL paper work for Dealer Services as well as parts I have bought and installed. Also have a printout of the entire service history @ Browns VW in Richmond.

Oil has been changed every 3,000 miles using Castrol GTX High Mileage and OEM Bosch/Mann Filters.

Exterior is expected for an 8 year car. Couple little dings and blemishes but hardly anything noticeable.
Interior is in decent shape. Wood is not cracked, the front seats have a some scratches but they're not destroyed. Little peeling on the door handle trim but
back seats are mint and the rest of the interior is in great shape. No dash cracks. I'd give it a 8/10.

McHulloch 5000k HID kit is installed in the headlights. Audi factory color of 5k is bright white. Dramatically improves vision at night.
During the VW Votex sale I bought a Genunie Votex Wagon spoiler which I had color matched and installed on the car. Really offsets the car.

Car was involved in a low speed fender bender in late August.I had Premeire Autobody in Harrisonburg, VA replace everthing back to spec.

I'm selling the vehicle due to financial reasons in college.

I'm asking $5400 OBO and am willing to negotiate.

Located in Harrisonburg, VA

I can be reached at 804-397-0678. If I don't answer leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible

Interior pics later today..

Hey guys! My name is Emily and I'm a senior at JMU...I'm pretty new to this whole car thing, but I'm obsessed with BMWs Smile I drive a Hyundai Santa Fe and it's pretty fun, slow around the corners though...I look forward to spending some time with other car nuts and learning more about them!
