WTB: Broken Motorcycle
Posted by: PDenbigh - 04-19-2011, 04:47 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (1)

Looking for a used, broken motorcycle - sport bike or cruiser. Probably want 500cc or bigger. Would prefer that everything works but the engine, but I'd settle for less. It'd be used to make an EV motorcycle. Any leads appreciated!

I'm most familiar with Hondas, but take out the engine and I imagine they'd all be similar.

Thanks!
Peter

You want a big wing? Heres your chance?!
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 04-19-2011, 02:02 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (11)

Okay,

So im basically deciding wether I want to upgrade to that $1300 fancy wing. Its ugly, expensive, and ill be made fun of, but I need my car to be above and beyond to be ready for 2011 NASA Nationals. Therefore I think the added downforce and efficiency may afford me .5-1second at the track.

So here weo go, im selling my MASHAW PTG style wing. Its painted alpine white, with an MPOWER/hrupekdesign vinyl in the middle. I get a bajillion comments on how good it looks, and how mean the car looks with it. This is NOT the hi-LTW wing which produces very little downforce and way more drag. These brand new unpainted sell for 1100-1200. I am willing to part with this thing for $700 (mmers contact me for price break). Pics are below. If I dont get what I want, I wont sell it, I love the wing.

I know its early, but it will give you young folks time to plan to work/spectate etc. Greatest event of the season, usually largest showing of cars as well. I'm working Fri-Sun. Pending sale of the GSX may try and do a hyperdrive as well.

If you have yet to attend a track event, this is the one you want to go to.

Camping is free, we are planning to bring a grill Sat and Sun, I think the plan is to bring what you want cooked and the grill will be provided by myself or someone else. (Kaan/Rex/Julie input?)

Who is in?

DO IT!

 Insurance Dispute Advice
Posted by: DavidL - 04-18-2011, 10:11 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (8)

Hey guys- wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience or advice--

Last week while heading home for the weekend I had the misfortune to be about a hundred yards behind an eighteen wheeler who decided he didnt need his two left rear tires-- hit almost a full tire which cracked the bumper in a couple places and pulled off my fog light cover, side strake and front lip-- Stopped, exchanged info with the driver who was extremely apologetic etc etc.

Now dealing with his insurance agency has been a different story. Talked with an agent the following morning- asked me to send over pictures an estimate. Sent that a week ago from today. Had trouble last week getting in touch with that agent, but finally found out a claim had been "opened" for my case- sounded like progress. Yet on Thursday, my parents said they received a letter at home from the insurance agency stating that they could not be held liable for the damages, basically eff off.

Has anyone had experience with something like this? Is this just a policy they use on every case- deny damages up front? Is it time to have a lawyer draft up a letter in response?

Good & Cheap Apartments in Fairfax-ish?
Posted by: Jake - 04-17-2011, 06:20 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (24)

This whole "graduation" thing is keeping me busy.

Joey & I are graduating and looking to get a place up in the Northern VA area. We'll both likely be working in Dulles, so we don't really want a massive commute from the DC area. Figured there are enough of you from the area who may have apartment experience and could mention where to look, where to avoid, etc.

Looking for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment that's not a shithole. Would be preferably close to a Metro station (walking distance awesome, driving is OK too). Not trying to spend millions of dollars that we don't have, but we'll spend a few bucks extra to get a nicer place.

Ideas? I've been looking on apartments.com in the Fairfax/Fair Lakes areas. Seems like there is a reasonable amount of things to do nearby (restaurants, FO Mall, near major highways) and you can get to the Vienna metro station in a decent time frame.

 1984 BMW 325e track/autox car
Posted by: Chris - 04-17-2011, 01:30 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (8)

**I'm posting this only on MM for now. I'd like for you guys to have first notice of it**

Here is a great project car for someone looking for an inexpensive way to get on track for HPDE's or to autox. The big ticket items have already been completed, and a lot of work has gone into the car. This is not an eligible model E30 for Spec E30, but a great HPDE car (good handling, lower powered, RWD).

As with many projects, this unfortunately was never completed. The good side to this is that it never made it to the track. All of the parts are basically brand new without wear (besides a few miles on the street). It has been sitting for about 4 years, but was moved around occasionally. It is currently in a barn at my parent's place in Powhatan, VA. I recently swapped 2 of the wheels with tires that would hold air pressure so it can be moved. I have not started it recently, as I feel it would better to take the time to properly do some fluid changes before starting. It will run perfectly fine; it just needs some attention, an alignment, and then needs to be driven.

Features:

51,603 original miles!
Painted flat black
Welded in roll bar
Stripped interior and trunk, removal of air conditioning components and power steering
Interior and roll bar painted black
Sunroof delete and panel welded in place
Sparco circuit driver's seat with sliding adapter and mounting bracket
Sabelt racer passenger seat with fixed mounting bracket
Spec E30 race suspension: H&R race springs, Bilstein sport shocks
Powerflex control arm bushings
Rogue engineering rear shock mounts
Carbotech front Panther Plus pads, Axxis Ultimate rear pads
Stainless steel brake lines
Lug stud to wheel stud conversion
ÔÇ£WinkÔÇØ rear view mirror
New exhaust muffler
Maintenance items completed: timing belt, water pump, alternator belt, distributor/wires/plugs, all new brake rotors, brake fluid flush with ATE superblue, air filter, intake boot, oil pressure switch, fuel filter, new battery

Fluids changed: oil, coolant, transmission and differential (redline products)

Immediate needs:

Alignment
Tires
Floor pan under the battery in the trunk is rusted- simply need to cut this out and weld in a new section
Harnesses for the seats (if it were to be tracked)
Hood release cable
Coolant sending unit (have one, included with car) I believe needs replacement- gauge was not working

I have the maintenance records for the work my friend and I completed on this and lots of current pictures that can be emailed. I have a couple of boxes of random parts, an extra rear bumper, and some other things that will be included based on the sale price.

Price is $3,500. Located in Powhatan, VA. This will need to be trailered. I have a trailer and can transport it for an additional fee based on your location. Please contact Chris at 804-240-4334 or c.procopio@gmail.com for any questions and pictures.

 FS: 1994 Accord EX
Posted by: Scott - 04-16-2011, 11:38 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (5)

1994 Honda Accord EX sedan. Power windows, power locks, moon roof, CD player, 5-speed manual, factory fog lights, Sage Green metallic (light blue). 183k One family owned (my father bought it new, I got it from him), never tracked or autocrossed. No accidents, paint or body work. It's been a commuter car it's entire life. Service records from new. Everything works. 30+ mpg

Issues:
-Clear coat is gone on the trunk and part of the roof.
-Rust in the RR quarter panel (common on this era Accord)

New parts in the past 12 months:
-New tires (under 5k on them)
-New upper control arms
-Spark plugs and wires
-Front brake pads and rotors

The car runs great, I have never had any issues with it. I would not hesitate to jump in it and drive anywhere. Last trip to NJ 2 months ago I averaged 38.6 mpg with the cruise set of 75mph.

I also have a set of snow tires mounted on Acura wheels if you are interested in them. Pictures coming once the weather improves outside. The only reason I am selling is I am honestly bored with it and found a Mini to replace it with.

$2500obo.

 Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X
Posted by: Jeff - 04-16-2011, 11:30 AM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (99)

I think I might hold the dubious honor of having the most project threads...

We decided that the dealership needs a trail rig Jeep to display and market Mopar Performance and genuine accessories for Wrangler. So I (after coming up with this idea) volunteered to take on the project and sell my Dakota to run this around and make sure people see it.

So anyway, the rig in question is a 2007 Wrangler X. Options are as follows.
2 Door Wrangler Sport X "B Package"
Rescue Green with grey interior and black soft top
Half steel doors
3.8L V6 w/ 6-speed Manual trans
3.21 ratio Dana 44 rear and 30 front with rear Trac-Lok diff
16X7in steel wheels w/29in tires
6 disc CD w/ sat radio

Sorry for the bad pics. Its raining out today.

Basically your basic Wrangler. Its nice that it has the better radio and the steel half doors are sorta rare on a JK; they are the same price as full doors now so no one wants to option them except people who plan to wheel. The idea here is to install Mopar accessories on it that people around here might actually have interest in buying. So that forced me to step back and say things like "Are people more likely to buy rock rails for $700 or a set of step bars for $315?" Just to put in perspective some of the decisions that might go into the selection of parts. We also are looking into a few aftermarket companies that offer items not available from Mopar to augment the OEM accessory offerings. If dealer agreements are made I will post it up.

Items installed that were in stock:
- OEM style step bars (std. on Sahara optional on X)
- Mirror relocation kit (A pillar mounts)

Items ordered
- Front Rock bumper w/ winch mount, D-rings, and guard (OEM fog lamp holes/hook mounts)
- Front bumper winch delete plate
- Rear Rock bumper w/ tire carrier provision, D-rings
- HD Steel skid / air dam for steering box and sway bar mounts
- OEM style 2in hitch
- 4 pin wiring kit for hitch
- 2in full spring lift kit with hydro shocks
- 33in Kelly Safari TSR Mud tires on Cragar Soft 8 steel wheels
- Rubber all over floor mat
- Jeep "Oh Jesus" handles
- Black tail lamp guards

I will post some pics of the gear as it comes in and the process of install it all. Might make for a neat little project thread. Also, don't think I won't do some neat little custom things while I am at it. You can sell that sort of work to if you are good at it.

 FS: 99 Silverado 4x4
Posted by: Ryan T - 04-15-2011, 12:04 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (4)

I doubt any of you would be interested but maybe you have a friend looking for a cheap, reliable, 4x4 truck. It's a 1999 1500 Silverado with the 4.3L V6, 4L60E automatic transmission, 106k miles and 4x4. It has a roll up bed cover and a bed mat. Only issues with the truck is a tear in the drivers seat (which I intend to repair before sale) and the windshield washer fluid pump does not work. This is a very common failure and is a $20 part to replace. It has manual windows and locks but does have the carpet interior, not the vinyl. It has an aftermarket CD player and the two package. The truck and tow package are rated at 5000lbs.

$5900. Great price for the truck.
