WTB: GMC/Chevrolet Suburban
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 09-16-2014, 03:42 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (6)

I am looking to try to get into a Suburban. Here are some requirements:
C10 body style, or Squarebody (in other words, definitely nothing from the 90s or later unless you just think its really effin' awesome)

4x4

3-door would be cool

Barn doors cool, but not a deal breaker

I am not looking for a basket case. If it's a project that's 85%, or well done but just lacks the paint job or something, that might be acceptable. I'd prefer to find one someone has already put a nice lift on with wheels/tires - not a monster truck, or slammed, like i seem to be finding everywhere.

Here are some pictures of ones I like:

 Salar Haji - 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser & 2001 Toyota 4Runner
Posted by: Yota_Cruisin - 09-16-2014, 01:26 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (22)

What a great club to join! Its been only a couple of weeks and I already love everything about it. It's by far my favorite club I'm in. Well, I'm Salar Haji, a freshamn here at JMU. My major is engineering and I drive a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser bone stock :| But she goes anywhere and everywhere I want her too. I'm very proud of my Cruiser. I also recently just bought a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. The engine knocks so I got a sweet deal on it. We recently swapped out the engine for the same 2.7l engine however, the new engine has low compression in all 4 cylinders. I'm thinking it may either be the head gasket or it may need a valve job. I'm not sure yet. I just cant wait to get it running. I can't wait to hit the trails! Here's some pics of both of my rigs. Thanks

*UPDATE*

Sold the tacoma... Turns out, I was in way over my head, shortly after the new engines (yes Multiple)... I noticed the trans slipping... Then, I had a super bad misfire, the truck would turn off randomly while driving... And, my frame was done.. I decided to test the structural rigidity of my frame with my trusty hammer, sucker went right thru.. So i had to get rid of it, it was a Money Pit... I traded the tacoma for a 2001 Toyota 4Runner Highlander edition and I love the thing! I have a few pics

Project Turbo Wagon: 2002 Subaru WRX
Posted by: V1GiLaNtE - 09-15-2014, 09:21 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (113)

Well, after much bitching from the peanut gallery and leaving the Washington Navy Yard ( which sucks ass for service) let's get this shit started

Year: 2002
Make: Subaru
Model: WRX
Color: Sedona Red Pearl
Mileage:109k

Go ahead Rex, stare in disbelief as this is probably the only other SRP wagon in existence. At least that I've seen in person.

This little gem popped up on craigslist and so I said fuggit. I've been wanting a wrx wagon for as long as I can remember so I pounced.

I will be the third owner with the 2nd owner purchasing it at 40k in 2007. A little ol FDA gentleman has kept this thing in his care and has documented every dealer service for pretty much everything. Every major service interval has been done by Stohlman Subaru for the better half of 7 years.

Timing belt was done 3k miles ago and overall for being commuted from McLean to Md everyday mechanically and cosmetically it's in good shape.

I don't plan on going stripper money crazy on this car. Semi comfy dd with some umph. Mainly I will be bringing any maintainance items up to speed and then small things like uppipe to prevent grenading the turbo from the cat and a short shifter and new bushings all around before a possible tune. This won't get Polen's uhellaunfunctional treatment. Maybe some STI springs for a little firmness and drop. I still want the ground clearance for going camping, biking, shit hauling.

Car came with motegi's and factory alloys. I'll sell the motegi's. It already has a borla cat back which sounds nice and probably provided a little performance.

Stay tuned.

 I'm In A Bad Spot
Posted by: Mark Corkery - 09-15-2014, 03:13 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (16)

So the people on the 33 cruise might know that on the way back my car started ticking really bad. My car has had issues of exhaust leaks but this is not the case.(valvetrain for sure) I don't want to baby it home to Roanoke in fear that it will cause even more damage. Can someone point me in the right direction to a performance garage in Harrisonburg that could help me pin down the problem and possible fix it. I don't have the tools or the garage here in Harrisonburg to do it myself.

Thanks Guys

 Patrick - '06 WRX & '29 Model A
Posted by: shenvalleyrx - 09-14-2014, 11:07 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (14)

Hey All. I'm Patrick and I'm an alum and a townie, graduating in '07 with a TIE Management degree. I'm currently driving an '06 Subaru WRX and a '29 Ford Model A "Woody". Back in my college days I drove a '02 Nissan Sentra, '89 Mazda RX7 (which is where the username comes from) and then an '06 Yamaha FZ6 out of college. I was a lot more into performance and speed back in those days, but got enough tickets to cure that disease. haha.

The WRX is nothing really to awful special. Just a bone stock WRX with 100,xxx miles on it.

The '29 Model is pretty sweet, though. My great grandfather bought it brand new from the Ford dealership in Harrisonburg back in 1929, so it's a family heirloom, which has finally made it down to my dad and I in the past year. We've put in some wrench time on it after it was neglected during the previous family member's possession, and have it on the road and running well, but still not 100%. The headlights and horn don't work very well and the radiator has some drips. Also to come is rebuilding the original engine with hardened valves and seats so we can quit running it with lead substitute additives.

My goal is to (hopefully soon) sell my WRX and get an old 1948-50 Ford F1 pickup truck. So I'll probably make another post in the "For Sale" Forum to advertise the WRX with more specifics and pictures.

I don't currently have any pictures of either car but I'll try and get some up by the end of next week.

Hey, I had a lot of fun meeting a bunch of people on the cruise today. I'm glad my dad and brother could bring my car down. I'm Sam, I'm a freshman from Stafford, VA, and I drive a 2002 BMW 325i. I don't know what else to say so I'll just throw in a few pictures of my car!

Hey there.

I am a former SMAD student and JMU employee. I worked at JMU for 7 years until January '14 as the webmaster.

Originally from England, I live here in Harrisonburg with my family and drive a Mazda RX-8. I have been meaning to join up with MM for ages and spoke to Jake about it loads of time but never got around to it.

Looking forward to hanging out with fellow petrol heads! See you tomorrow at the cruise.

Official MM Vehicle Registry: Add Your Rides!
Posted by: SlimKlim - 09-11-2014, 02:22 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (20)

I was bored this morning and thinking about how we always speculate that BMWs or Miatas or something are "taking over" MM.

I thought it would be cool to actually see what the most and least common cars are that MMers own and have owned, so I threw together a really quick form in google docs so we can create our own registry, similar to the ///M Registry (http://www.bmwmregistry.com/detail.php?id=7675) and other enthusiast registries.

So here's whatcha do, go here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IDezYa ... g/viewform

Fill out the form for each one of the vehicles you've owned. There's a link on the completion page that lets you go back and do another entry.

The results are automagically sifted into 3 buckets, then sorted by manufacturer and then production year.

Currently Owned Cars: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...1525147523

Sold Cars: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...=879143944

Full List: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...1793460204

Now get busy! I wanna make some pie charts or something.

EDIT: Oh and by the way I'm not going to give anyone editing permission in the forms so they don't get dicked up by accident. If you want to edit something and haven't closed the completion page, there should be a link to allow you to edit the entry.

If you can't get back to it, or you want to add a photo or make an edit after the fact, ask me in this thread and I'll manually add it to the RawData sheet.

EDIT 2: Stats are up! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...=657007018

Hey everyone, I'm Matthew. I'm a Junior Nursing Major, pending acceptance into the program. I drive a 2001 Toyota Solara with about 156-157k on it. There's also a first gen Miata in the family back home that I'd like to bring up sometime to Autocross. Both are stock other than some wheels and tires on the Miata. I'm here because I'm interested in learning more and having some people to talk to about cars (so I can stop boring my girlfriend and anyone else within 10 miles of me) as well as make some new friends. Anyway, here's my Solara:
