my roomate has a '96 civic dx

i'm going to look at the car tonight, but here are the symptoms:

He hears a thud or knocking noise when he brakes and it's correlated to the speed he's traveling. It only happens when he's braking and he does not feel anything in the pedal or the steering wheel. He doesn't think it effects his driving or braking but it's getting louder as the weeks go on. The noise also appears to be coming from the rear driver's side.

I'm not really quite sure how to diagnose this, but i just wanted some possibilities before i check it out this evening.

Now that spring is upon us, its time to announce the bi annual CCVT car show. It is going to be held Saturday, April 22nd and starts at 10 AM. It will be held in the prices fork commuter lot on campus.

Its free to watch. I don't think we have the prices setup yet if you plan to enter your car but last year it was only a few dollars. We have trophies for 7 different categories and the judging is done by everyone (you get a card to submit your votes for the various categories). We will also have a few extra prizes for entrants that will be randomly given away (some stuff from meguiars, free blackstone oil anylsis, a coupon for some free dyno time). There should be alot of other cool things there as well that we will be able to announce as the event draws nearer.

There will also be a cookout directly after the show. If you attend the cookout, you will want to arrange to spend the night somewhere. The location is usually within walking distance to most of the apt complexes in Blacksburg so there are no worries about driving. Parking should not be a problem either. I can only hope we top last years cookout. It was a huge success. We have multiple alumni flying in just for this, if that says anything about how much fun it is.

If you guys have any questions about the show let me know, and I really hope to see some of you guys here this year.

WRX Vs A Tree at 120MPH
Posted by: WRXtranceformed - 03-15-2006, 08:49 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (14)

Absolutely horrible crash. It's all over the Subaru and EVO forums. Was a 23 year old kid driving his 2006 WRX, pronounced dead on arrival.

From what I've read, the guy was less than 2 miles from his house, was driving 120mph+, went airborne and struck the LONE tree in a field 8 FEET UP. Another quote I read:
"A few days prior the kid was overheard (by an off-duty Highway Patrol officer) talking about how fast the car was, that it would do this, and do that. He remarked to another officer that he'd probably be seeing the kid again (thinking he'd be giving him a speeding ticket soon)."

Very tragic, and very stupid at the same time. Drive smart out there guys.

  FS: 1992 Nissan 240SX Fastback

1992 Nissan 240SX for sale.

FS: 1992 Nissan 240SX SE Fastback. 156k miles. Body and paint in good shape, interior in solid shape but as would expect with the mileage. Tires, brakes, etc in tip top condition. Recent tune up and new starter. Battery recently tested and it is strong. Also did a compression test and was even across. (dont have the numbers off hand)
Car is stock and has never been modified or raced. I did replace the stock leaking viscous bushing suspension arms with JDM pillowball arms. It failed emissions, so I put in a new PDM high flow magnaflow cat, but registered it in a different county instead of getting it re-inspected. Should be fine with the new cat, but it would probably be better off going to a non-emissions county just in case.

makes a great, reliable and fun to drive daily driver, or would make a great donor car for a SR20

asking price is $2700 obo
MM price $2500

Rossi issues a challenge to Alonso

"I read that if Alonso is able to make some practice then he can put a MotoGP bike on the podium with me," the Italian told Motorcycle News. "Well, I think we should drive a Formula One car, a World Rally car and a MotoGP bike, add the times together and then we will see who is the fastest."

  what are your interests
Posted by: ScottyB - 03-15-2006, 12:23 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (50)

thought it might be cool to have a thread in which we can tell the forum about what we like to do in our free time. if anything, it could be a neat way for those living close together (NoVa fools, those at JMU) to possibly get together and share an interest outside of cars, or simply to get to know people on the forum better.

kind of like Mike's "what cars have you owned thread"....post up a little list and a blurb next to each. Please refrain from posting passtimes like ramping motorcycles off of porches and setting stuff on fire

  Petition for fellow motorsports fan
Posted by: Dragon - 03-15-2006, 12:11 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (4)

I'm sure that none of you know this guy, but he's a good friend of someone I'm close to and it will take all of a minute of your time. Whether it will do any good or now I don't know, but what's one minute out of your day to help a fellow motorsports fan.
http://www.petitiononline.com/b1b/petition.html

Short version of the petition:
Brandon has brain cancer
Brandon is a huge audi fan
Petition is to get a sticker to show support for him on a Champion Racing and/or the Joest Racing/AudiSport North America team car

Also if any of you should so feel the desire, please post this on other motorsports forums that you participate on where you think members might be willing to take a minute or two out of their day.

  Garage Pics for me too!
Posted by: PDenbigh - 03-15-2006, 10:58 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (15)

Since the XR is away getting a cage, I had to have something to do in the garage, so I redid it, completely. I'm really happy with the outcome, and it's not bad for a 1 car working garage!

Big thanks to Alison for all the help!

All the pics are here: http://www.85xr.com/garage/garage.htm

And here's a teaser:
