Ferrari's Felipe Massa in a display of youthful over-exuberance "locked dem shits up y0" and spun early in Sunday's F1 race. Having badly flat-spotted all four tires he came into the pits for an unscheduled pit stop.

Somehow the air tools on the left side of the car got messed up (very uncharacteristic of Ferrari). The ensuing scramble looked like something out of the three stooges. Seeing a Ferrari pit crew member put on a wheel and forget to put on the lugnut reminded me of the 3 Stooges. The pit stop ended up taking around 50 seconds (when normally its between 7 and 10 seconds). No points for you!

3. Don't kill your pit crew
In this weekend's Formula 1 season opener was Super Aguri Honda's first race as well as driver Yuji Ide's first race. Ide came up from the Japanese Formula Nippon series.

When it came time for his first pit stop he ran past his stop box and hit a couple of his crew. Yuji, see that guy holding the sign that says "STOP"? You're not supposed to hit him. Plenty of other drivers have done the same thing but Super Aguri is sort of the new Minardi so they're going to be the butt of jokes for awhile (like David Hobbs calling them the Super Friends Team, I personally like Super Hello Kitty Honda). However, if Yuji pulls a few more boneheaded moves he might earn the nickname "Ide-ot".

2. "That was Some of the Best Riding I've seen yet. Right until you got 0wned. NEVER, EVER lead coming out of the chicane at Daytona"

Daytona is a special race for the AMA Road Racing series not only because of the Daytona 200 mile race, but because the long front straightaway (which is on the NASCAR high banking) allows for some very high speeds and dramatic drafting.

Because of the drafting effect everyone knows that you should never lead coming onto said straightaway on the last lap if someone following you is within drafting distance. They'll simple draft you and beat you to the line every time.

Apparently this lesson was lost on Yamaha's Jason Disalvo who lost the Superstock race when his teammate Jamie Hacking put this exact move on him for the win.

That would've been bad enough but when the Superbike race came up, everyone knew what had happened so presumable no one should've been stupid enough to fall victim to the same ploy...

Well, Ben Spies (Suzuki) had been hounding 6 time AMA Superbike champ Mat Mladin (Suzuki) the entire race and was within a bike length as they were entering the final chicane before the straightaway of fate. Now all Ben had to do was follow Mladin and make the pass.

But Mat turned around, sat up, and left the door open so Ben could pass him.

Now Ben should have known better. In the press conference Ben admitted he knew better. Yet, in a boneheaded move that costed him the race he passed Mladin and true to form Mladin drafted by him for the win by a half bike length. Not gonna beat the champ if you're gonna fall into his traps so easily mate.

1. You do know how to use a Pace car don't you???
During the Daytona 200 AMA Formula Xtreme race (basically 600 cc heavily modified sportbikes) a rider crashed but the incident was not enough to warrant a red flag, which would have called all of the riders back into the pits (then they'd have to grid up again and do another standing start).

So AMA Pro brings out the pace car but race control messed up on identifying the leader so the pace car ended up out in maybe the middle of the pack. Now normally in a case like this the pacecar waves cars/bikes by until he picks up the leader. But somehow, beyond all logic AMA Road Racing director Ron Barrick(who was driving the pacecar) decided not to wave anyone by.

The consequence of this is that Miguel Duhamel and Ben Bostrom, who were running 4th and 5th at the time, not only lost a shot to have a go at the leaders but they went A LAP DOWN!

Later he tried to make excuses for his actions by saying he was understaffed, race control didn't call out the leader properly, and the coup de grace "Well, I think ultimately, the results will show that the riders finished in the same order that they were in before the pace car came out."

AMA is now the front runner for worst sanctioning body in the world, only narrowly edging out the FIA.


Welp, once I get my computer DVR up I think I'll provide a video version of boneheaded moves in motorsport. Can't wait to see what other stupid moves we see this year.

so yeah...had this Olds 4-4-2 model sitting in my closet since i was 16. to me, 4-4-2's are the sweetest muscle cars of all time, no question. so, i had this model forever and decided it was time to get this bad boy done! its 98% finished as it is, so i figured i'd take some pics and show it off.

overall the kit assembly was OK, it's an AMT kit so the flashing on the plastic is always terrible. some parts were warped too. however, considering this is a beginner/intermediate kit i had no major gripes.

mods/custom:

- graphite metallic flake paint (exterior, dash) and red anodized finish paint (block/air cleaner/fan and center console)
- 18 in. Ferrari rims from some concept car, custom painted flat black/polished lip (for Feersty) with 335's out back
- stock W-30 engine package but with aftermarket headers and drilled side dumps, because real men love being deaf
- shortened springs, cut shocks, cut spindles for a scale 2-3" drop in ride height
- totally cut-out grill, steel-painted accents









my current stable 8)


there's still some crap to finish like mounting the side view mirror, plates and badges, wiring the spark plug wires and maybe a little more soot on the tips of the exhaust. ultimately i want to enter this in some local contests here in atl and see how i fare.
