Basically my DD/beater might be totaled so what can I get for around $2k-$3k? This car doesn't have to be "cool" it just has to get me from point a to b.


My only requirements are:

- I need to be able to fit in it and be somewhat comfortable (I'm 6' 6")
- Four doors (insurance is cheaper and I like the extra space)
- Wrong wheel drive (for the snow)
- Most importantly....it needs to be sledgehammer reliable

Bonus points if it's American. :mrgreen:



Alright, so what should I be looking at?

Upgrade my stereo in the RA. The Rockford Fosgate subwoofer had no chance of fitting in my way-to-small trunk so i'm selling it. I have two boxes for it, i guess if someone just needs a box i'll sell the other. Right now it's in the ported box, the other is sealed both were custom made. It's 12inches 800W RMS no idea of peak to be honest and i'm not even sure of impedance although im pretty sure it's a dual-coil 4ohm. On a side note I was able to install my old Sony four-ways into my girlfriend's car and replaced my stock in the RA with some Kicker Components.

Per Rex's request, here is the link. For my money I think MCN is pulling the 1200 cc number out of their rectums but there have been rumblings about Honda making some new V4's for awhile now. I figure if they are going to make something like a Super Blackbird it's gonna need at least 1300 cc to compete with the Busa and ZX-14.

Ginger would prefer a super VFR and I can't say I disagree. Maybe a 1000 cc VFR would be the ticket but honestly I'm still waiting for my V5 powered Honda. Or a 1200 cc v-twin RC61...

Michael Schumacher revealed himself as Top Gear's mysterious test driver the Stig.

The former Formula One driver took off the Stig's famous white helmet during an interview with presenter Jeremy Clarkson after the studio audience urged him to reveal his true identity.

Clarkson jokingly pretended not to recognise Schumacher and asked him what his name was before he became famous as the Stig, before excitedly shouting to the audience: "It's Michael Schumacher!"

The Stig test drives cars around the Top Gear track in Dunsfold Park, Surrey, and trains each week's guest for their lap for the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car feature.

His identity has a closely guarded secret although many people have speculated that the famous white overalls and helmet are shared by several drivers.

Silly rumours about the Stig have been used to add to the mystery surrounding the character who never speaks to camera.

In Sunday's show, Clarkson quizzed Schumacher about some of the rumours, asking: "Are you illegal in 17 US states?"

Schumacher, who was Formula One world drivers' champion seven times, replied: "No, it's much exaggerated. It's only nine."

Clarkson then asked about another rumour: "Some people have told us you only know two facts about ducks and both of them are wrong. Is that true?" Schumacher replied "Well obviously they won't fly" and was quickly interrupted by Clarkson who said: "No, they were right, you don't know anything about ducks."

Former Formula One driver Perry McCarthy was Top Gear's original Stig, who dressed all in black during the first two series. He was replaced with the current Stig, dressed in white, after he revealed his identity.

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a rear disc conversion for the CRX as my rear shoes are about done and one of the ebrake cables broke. Here's what I'm looking for. (acura/honda OEM only, no uber expensive wilwood stuff)

-Complete Rear Disc Brake swap with e-brake cables for a 1991 CRX HF
-4040 proportioning valve
-Everything else i need to make this work (master cylinder etc etc etc, if needed/suggested)

Also if you think i should upgrade the fronts while i'm at it lemme know. few questions also

1. Are all the rear disc brakes created equal? (integra vs GSR vs JDM CRX vs Si CRX)
2. If I should upgrade the fronts what are a good set?

also if noone has a set laying around i think theres a guy on vadriven that has set ups constantly. I am willing to drive to where they are/pay for shipping. This would be a good chance to clear out some junk outta your garage . Thanks for the help!

Well, I know some of you out there are developers in one form or the other, and I kind of in a bit of a transitional predicament. I worked my first job out of college, and kicked ass, been there 2 years, and I am ready to move on to a new project within the company. Two opportunities have presented themselves to me, and I am not sure which way to go. I am keeping these descriptions as vague as the job postings that I originally applied to, just so you get an idea.

My background: java app programming, scripting, build systems, and i was a math/comp sci major at JMU

job 1) Software development for super computers. This job would mean I would be programming in FORTRAN and C. From the gist of it I got, we'd write math libraries, and various other things that are platform specific to the SC it runs on. This job would be on a small team, and acts more as an R&D lab for my company, and gets "contracted out" to analyze and optimize code from other programs. They actually asked me about my calculus and algebra proficiency in this job interview, so no doubt it would be awesome to actually use my education for something.

Job 2) Typical enterprise web application developer. This would be doing backend programming for a web app, using all these newer frameworks and java shit I don't know much about. I have only ever done java app programming, nothing enterprise. This would be awesome to finally get on one of these for that experience, since everything these days is web based, albeit using whatever framework is the flavor of the week. This is totally in java, and everybody uses java, so it's probably really transferrable.


So, what would you do? Job 1 is probably less stable, but when else would I ever be able to work on a project like this? Isn't it more impressive to put on your resume that you built and optimized code to run on super computers? The downside is, theres not that many places to do this kind of job!. Job 2's obvious advantage is that every java shop i ever go to would be doing this, most likely. I am kind of leaning towards job 1, because I figure I am still young, and won't get pigeonholed, even if my java skills slip, because I figure if you can learn the job 1 type of development, you can learn anything, and hopefully the person interviewing you would realize that.
