Saturday July 18th Autocross # 8

Summit Point's Washington Circuit the location of the next CDC autocross on SATURDAY July 18th.

Registration and tech inspection will be at 8:00 and will promptly close at 8:45 to try to accommodate the full field, while still giving 6 runs. You must be DONE by 8:45. So if you arrive at 8:00 you won't have a problem. Don't arrive at the last minute.

The event fee for the Saturday autocross is $30 for members and $35 for non-members at this event. The fee is slightly more to cover for the increased cost for the facility.

Member reservations (or participants that will join the club upon showing up) for any events can be made at any time. Open reservations for non-members for this event begin Friday July 10th.

New Memberships

We are now taking new members at this event (in person only). If you are joining the club, you may make a reservation with current members by typing "I will be joining the club at this event." in the Notes field in the reservation request.

If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me.

I am undecided on whether I want to do HPDE or just run the CircuitCross on the Patriot course. Either way I should be stopping by sometime during that weekend. Anybody else participating?

Need a Car Buying Map Service?
Posted by: G.Irish - 07-02-2009, 11:18 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (10)

I was just thinking yesterday that it'd be rather convenient if I could search for cars or bikes on a map. Sure, most of the big vehicle classifieds sites will tell you what city the vehicle is in, but if it's a city I don't know I have to go look it up anyway.

I was thinking it would be fairly easy to make a mashup like that for MM's site for shits and giggles. At the very least one could use the Ebay API to map out stuff on Ebay motors. With a little more work one could scrape cars.com and autotrader and map that stuff too.

Any interest?

Edit: No these are not mine. I'm helping an old war vet sell his collection. He was in the Navy, did tours in Korea and RVN. He's been retired for a LONG time now. They put a roof on their home and he's had some issues with war related injuries/illnesses and they have had to buy a car that the Veterans Administration will retro fit for him. He's too old and sick to shoot and they have spent a lot of their savings in the last 6 months... they are just trying to pad it back up.

Barber Motorsports Park Aug 22-23 HOD BMWCCA

I know its a long shot for anyone here but things are shaping up for me to go to AL for work in August. While there, I was gonna visit my brother who lives in Birmingham, and it just so happens that there's a DE through the Heart of Dixie chapter of the BMWCCA at Barber the weekend before I'm supposed to be there. I haven't committed to going yet but its looking more and more like its going to work out for me. Google maps says its about ~10 hours from Charlottesville. Anyone else interested in a road trip?

FS: 6 Jul 09 VIR-N NESBA Track Day

Something came up so I need to sell my spot since it's too late to cancel. The price of the track day is $185 but MM price is $100. Get moving fast because I need to unload this.

just rejetted... how do you read plugs?
Posted by: BLINGMW - 06-30-2009, 11:23 AM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (3)

Installed a K&N filter and rejetted to match. Bike runs great. But I'd like more confirmation that the mix is right. If I understand correctly, the correct way to make sure the mix is right at full throttle is to warm it up, go full throttle/load for a few sec and cut it off. Coast to a stop, read them then. But I have to say, I have a real problem doing that intentionally. The valves are at their hottest then, and I shut it down? I really hate doing that.

So what I did.... full throttle for 3-4 sec in first up the road to my driveway, hit kill switch and clutch, close throttle, roll into my driveway. As I roll down the driveway, shift to 2nd and let out clutch. Then the motor gets to turn over a few times without actually running. Is that valid? So far my plugs turned out white before and after the rejet, so either I was lean then and am still lean now, or my test method sucks. :dunno:

How fast does plug color change? Is 3-4 sec even enough?

Is it safe to say that looking at plug color any other time is really just an indicator of the mix at idle since it probably idled before shutdown?

This voodoo doesn't satisfy me, I want a wideband. :?

  Two Autocrosses - 7/12
Posted by: Jake - 06-29-2009, 08:31 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (21)

Heads-up about two different events, both on July 12th.

DC Benz Club AutoX
in Winchester, VA. Cost is $30 and you may run two events per year with these guys before joining either CDC or their club. I did an auto-x with them earlier in the summer and had a good time. Smaller course and group of people but we kept things moving. Minimum of six runs guaranteed.

WDCR-SCCA AutoX
at FedEx Field in MD. Cost is usually $35 for SCCA members, $45 for non-members. It's always a good time, but depending on when you run, it can be a very long day at FedEx. I'm contemplating going to this one because the course will definitely be longer, and i can run in STS and go first in the day. Link for this event (to register and stuff) is here.

Questions, opinions, etc? Would be great to see some other MM folks out there!
