Educate me on tires
Posted by: flintster55 - 07-12-2009, 01:11 PM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (7)

So, since I'm still pretty new to the world of 2 wheels still, I figured I would try to gain a little knowledge here.

- I don't plan on doing any trackdays anytime soon so my riding is all on the street.
- I had qualifiers front and rear when I bought it.
- I replaced the back tire with a Michelin Pilot Power based on recommendations from friends and fellow riders because it was completely shot.
- I'm looking to replace the front fairly soon because it's decently worn now too

Is it crucial for front and rear tires to match exactly? (tread pattern, amount of wear, etc.)
If it isn't necessary for front and rear to match, any other brand or particular tire you guys recommend?

New laptop for work. Need suggestions.
Posted by: WRXtranceformed - 07-10-2009, 03:20 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (143)

So I just got promoted to closer and am in need of a new laptop for presentation purposes. The company is footing the bill, ultimately I will have to pay them back though so I'm not looking for something outlandishly expensive. The co-owners / first closers bought pimped out Macintoshes that were like $2500, I don't know if I need that much computer.

Here's what I need.

1) Big, clear screen with a good graphics card / RAM to power the graphics.
2) Slim, professional looking with an OS that doesn't suck
3) Mac or PC?

You guys know how I feel about Macs, I really don't enjoy them. But EVERYONE thinks I should get one. I'd like to keep the cost under $2 grand and I'd like to be able to run the DJ software for my new turntable setup (which pretty much any new computer would probably be able to do). Questions are, are there any PCs worth getting out there? Is it not worth the hassles down the line? I'm still using John's old Inspiron 700m and it's hanging in there pretty well. Or should I just take the dive and go against my reasoning and get a Mac?

 new Honda CEO

http://www.themotorreport.com....a-ceo/

HONDA MOTOR COMPANY has sworn in new president Takanobu Ito, best known for designing the all-aluminium chassis for the Honda NSX sports car.
Ito succeeds Takeo Fukui, president of Honda for the past six years and the man who presided over a Honda that has fared better than world number one Toyota and fellow ÔÇÿtop 3ÔÇ▓ Japanese manufacturer, Nissan, during the global economic downturn.

Ito said this week that despite its relative success during the financial crisis, Honda must regroup and recapture the spirit of the past - the ÔÇÿpower of dreamsÔÇÖ - if it is to maintain its strong position.

The new president will also lead HondaÔÇÖs research and development department, allowing important decisions to be made and pushed into production faster. Insiders at Honda have said that Ito has already made a number of significant internal changes, though they could be two to three years away from bearing any obvious results.

After starting with Honda as an R&D engineer specializing in chassis design, Ito has held a number of important roles within the company.

He has been involved in the development of small sedans for the Japanese market, worked as Executive Vice President of R&D for Honda and Acura in America and was involved in the development of the original NSX.

Ito has also held a mind-boggling array of simultaneous positions with Honda: Sitting on the Board of Directors of Honda Motor Company and being Managing Director of Honda R&D, then onto President and Director of Honda R&D as well as General Supervisor of Motor Sports.

So, does this mean we'll be returning to the "golden age" of fun hondas like from the 90's?

BWAHAHAHA...the Camaro is officially a "gay" car
Posted by: fiveoh2go - 07-09-2009, 08:29 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (23)

GM tries to pitch new Camaro to gay men - http://blogs.moneycentral.msn.com/topst ... y-men.aspx

Quote:The models lean seductively over the hood of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, wearing only tiny yellow underwear emblazoned with the car's logo. Grasping a wash cloth, they rub down the car until it sparkles as an unseen cameraman asks about the car.

The videos, broadcast on YouTube, use sex appeal to sell Camaros to guys. Only the models aren't women, they're men.

The racy commercials are part of a new advertising campaign targeting gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.

In addition to highlighting the Camaro, the online videos illuminate a new challenge for General Motors and rival Chrysler: marketing the same car model to different audiences.

Before the current restructuring, the car companies had enough models to make "a car for every purse and purpose," as long-time GM-president Alfred P. Sloan famously said. But not anymore. GM once had 11 brands, including international ones. It plans to shed or spin-off at least four. That means instead of having several cars for soccer moms in various income brackets and several other cars aimed at, say, young, childless men, the car companies must market the same car to both groups.

"We are trying to broaden the appeal," said John Fitzpatrick, marketing manager for the Camaro.

The Camaro, for example, is a model that GM hopes to market as an affordable muscle car for the masses. GM is using the new Transformers movie - a film about machines that turn into robots based on a popular comic book - to market the sports car to young people and hip parents. The company is also marketing the car in the Middle East with a message focused on performance and power, says Fitzpatrick. The car will eventually need to be sold in Europe as well, a very different market that tends to prize features such as fuel-efficiency.

In the U.S., GM has tacitly supported online campaigns by homosexual Camaro fans. The YouTube videos were created by a Camaro enthusiast to promote "Gay Day at the Movies," a Los Angeles event featuring a screening of the new Transformers movie. Chevrolet supplied the vehicle used in the video, said company spokesman Adam Denison.

Fitzpatrick acknowledges that appealing to so many different groups with the same car is challenging. The Internet has enabled folks in different countries to see advertising campaigns intended for different audiences.

"It is a lot more difficult to do in today's day and age because of what the Internet can do," said Fitzpatrick, adding that focusing on the technology has helped broaden the Camaro's appeal.

So far, GM is pleased with how the Camaro campaigns are going. The 2010 model, which hit dealerships in April, has sold the most vehicles in its class, said Fitzpatrick. More than 9,000 Camaros were sold in June and GM is working to fill orders for another 25,000 vehicles.
