Clogged Cat, Slip Control Warnings, stealership ranting
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 04-30-2010, 03:06 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (35)

As most of you know, I have a 2008 Malibu. It's got a shitton of miles on it for its age, but with 100k powertrain warranty, I assumed I had no worries.

CEL comes on a few days ago. I thought it was loose gas cap, so i filled it up, tightened, left it alone. Two times now, while the car was in cruise control going down the highway, the car starts stuttering like a gear is slipping, and the little computer in front says "Service ESC soon." So I am like well this effin' blows, and I went to Pohanka chevy today to get it checked out, thinking it's gotta be a warranty issue, right?

Well, after I told them "CEL is on..check it out, let me know" two hours later they come back with "The Cat is clogged, and that's causing your problem, oh, and you've got an O2 sensor throwing codes"....

"oh, and it would be 480$ for the parts, and it's out of warranty for the cat"

So I basically said that sounded pretty suspicious, told them to put it back together, and left.

Question: What possible, conceivable reason could a clogged cat make the car rev and stutter and shit just like a gear was losing teeth? AND making the computer tell me in the dash that the ESC needed servicing?

  Another lifetime rider down
Posted by: Mike - 04-30-2010, 09:53 AM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (22)

A year or two ago I posted regarding a lifetime rider who was hit by a car at an intersection and is now paralyzed. Worst part is his kids and wife (the bitch has since left him... texas-bred &*$#*&^$*#) were at the intersection behind him and saw the whole thing.

Just this past week another older guy I know was cruising with a group of friends and his wife, someone pulled a u-turn into their group, and now he's dead.

I'd say "stay safe," but it's out of your hands... Soooo uhhh "good luck."

Anybody want to buy a nearly-ready-to-go VFR750F? $1000. Not running, but carbs are off and clean... just waiting to be put back together. Could use a stay or two that I bent back into shape, some fasteners, and a battery and it'll be as good as new. I think it only has 8k miles? Motor isn't even broken in Smile I was selling anyway, but I have a move coming up and I'd rather not deal with it so will let it go at a serious loss when it just needs a couple hours and some cheap parts.

i need a wash and wrench day
Posted by: andrew_j - 04-29-2010, 11:21 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (1)

So I am "studying" in carrier at the moment and remembered that I desperately need to wash my car and prepare it for the autox on Sunday. And by that I mean I need to either devise some way to bolt my subs to the floor of the car or pull them out. Living on campus I don't have any tools. Also I am looking for an old towel rack so that I can follow a nifty DIY headrest camera mount that I found a while ago for Sunday. So if anyone else is interested in maybe getting together, washing some cars, and helping me pull my bump out of my trunk. Let me know!

I was supposed to make $3975 this week...

and instead I made $1141.07 thanks to back charges. 95% of which had nothing at all to do with me.

Commissioned positions suck. Anyone's company hiring good sales people?!

Oh yeah, I get to pay for all my own travel / car / insurance expenses too Sad

Sorry just venting. You need to have a thick skin and a lot of faith to do what I do.

Good morning chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiildren.

So. Julie and Rex have decided that the value of our home is too high, and would like to knock it down a couple notches by hosting an MM Summer Party.

First step in hosting a party is to find a date that works for everyone. I know alot of students don't stick around hburg when the summer comes, and I know alot of the alumni are old fogies who can't get their walkers/canes in the back of their BMW's, but we'd really like for everyone who possibly could to come out and celebrate Julie and Rex being Responsible Adults and buying a home.

Really, any excuse to party amirite?

So, vote in the poll for dates. There are 4, they all work for us, so whoever it works the best for, that's when we'll have it. We'd really like to firmly schedule it at least 3 weeks in advance, to give everyone time to prepare. You can even change your vote, if your own plans change.

Yes, we have floor space. And a guest room. And a futon. So if you get faced, you have a place to crash. And hey, it's summer, if you pass out on our deck, nbd.

We will be supplying some beverages, and yes, if you play your cards right there is a high probability of slushie. (Arrrrjaaaaaayyyy) (Just make sure if you :vomit: that you do it outside.) We'll also be supplying some food (burgers and 'dogs) but we'll need of course people to bring stuff.

Anyway, vote, so we can get our party on.

Edit:
The party is:
JULY 10

Ok:
Parking and Such.
Here's where the party is:

There is SOME visitor parking throughout the complex, but MOST of you are going to be parking on the street. Berkshire Street or Cloverhill Road. (You can see it on the Map)

The visitor parking is marked as such, so you can park in those. The spots marked 'Reserved' are just that. Park there at your own risk, the tow guys don't mess around.

If there's no visitor parking and no street parking, then I'll have to think of something. Maybe some shuttling. I dunno.

Ok so here's the story. I bought this bike, rode it, and put it away last winter for it's hibernation. Then I bought a house. Yay! Awesome! Only, you know, houses cost money, even after you buy them. So this spring, I remembered I had a bike. I didn't really have the intense urge to ride it, but I *did* have the intense urge to pad my savings account in case something goes wrong. (Also a mild burning sensation, but that's beside the point.) So, after discussing the situation with Spousal Unit Prime, we agreed the bike should go. So I pulled it off the float charger, she fired right up, I checked the tire pressures and went for a shakedown right. On the way back, my speedometer started jumping, and finally died. >:-( Well, shit. I placed an order for a new part to replace the broken one and apparently this guy:

works in the Ducati part department and my part was in another castle. Or something. Anyway, it's finally on it's way, so I can finally replace this speedo drive and sell this bike.

But she's a beauty. Low miles, sounds like a horse of the apocalypse, and looks great. It's a dark, so if you don't have a black helmet and a black leather jacket you ought to buy one after you buy this bike. Because you'll be the coolest guy you know. Saucy, sexy italian ladies will swoon as you cruise by; you will be the envy of your friends. This bike is pretty awesome. Not too big, not to small, just right. A Goldilocks bike, if goldilocks were an awesome biker. Hell, it looks good enough you should just buy it and park it in your living room. Or maybe your bedroom because as soon as the ladies see it, the clothes are coming off. You should start drinking Dos Equis now, because you'll be the most interesting man in the world.

Or not. But it's a cool machine, no doubt about that, and it was the perfect motorcycle for me. While I was a motorcyclist, which I'm not anymore. Maybe this bike was just too cool for me, and needs a new awesome owner. You.

You have questions. I have answers:
"You're in Manassas. Is the bike there too?"
Alas, I live in an apartment complex, where I have no place to winter my bike. But it's close by, I promise.

"Other than the speedo, is anything wrong with it?"
No. Everything else is sweet cherry pie. You could ride off into the sunset on it, as long as you didn't care how fast you went.

"Will you take $X?"
Maybe. Come look at it before you make me an offer. I think that would work best for both of us.

"Will you take payments? My mom will vouch for me."
Sorry man, In God I Trust, all others must pay cash. (or certified check)

"I can't really read all those words you wrote. Why are you selling it again?"
Shifting priorities. I just bought a house, need money for things like refrigerators and furnaces, not for motorcycles. (If you ask my friends: "It's because he's a pussy." They're probably more right.)

"Good Morning! My name is Medulla Oblongata and I am the Defense Ministar for the Republic of Congos. I was recently removed from power in my country, and I would like to buy your 2000 Ducati Monster 750 Dark for ONE MILLIONS DOLLAR. Please give me..."
No dice, pal. Continental US sales only.

Anyway, if you clicked on this ad, this is the bike for you. So email me and we can work out something. I have a bitchin' android phone, so I get my emails right away.

Tell your friends!
