Brakes on an '06 Buick LaCrosse
Posted by: Sijray21 - 04-15-2010, 01:34 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (2)

Hey Guys/Gals,

I had a quick question for ideas on an issue that my girlfriend is having with her car:

When she is making a hard right turn at lower speeds and applying the brakes, the pedal goes to the floor and makes a shuddering sound. This doesn't happen when she turns left. Sometimes the ABS light is activated as well as another light (i'm guessing the check-engine light). per my request, she restarted the car and the lights go away every time.

I'm going to drive the car as soon as i get a chance to, but just throwing this out there to try and get ideas.

So far i've come up with a few possibilities:
1) ABS sensor wire is losing connection to one of the wheels (from a Buick forum i found). I looked and they appear to be fine.
2) Low fluid or pad life. I checked them out as well and the pads have decent life left and the fluid is a fair-amount below the Max level (thought adding more to the max would resolve this).
3) ABS module f-ing up and possibly needing to be replaced.

Any other thoughts? I'm going to try topping off the brake fluid and seeing if that makes a difference and then i'm considering a brake fluid flush :dunno:

I know a lot of you all have heard me talk about getting a toyota pickup in the since December. Well, today I finally got one. I haven't had a chance to take some pictures yet, but after I wash her I'll take some good pics in the sun. Here are the specs as of right now:
1991 Toyota Pickup Dx
5sp, 4x4 with manual locking hubs
257,000 on the body
10k on the jasper motor and transmission (22RE FTMFW)
One owner (i'm the 2nd!)
everything under the hood was replaced at the time of the engine and tranny including brake, clutch, and slave cylinders clutch, battery, alternator, EVERYTHING
The brakes were also done including new rotors and pads
New wheels and 31 inch bf goodrich all terrains
As far as suspension, everything has been replaced and beefed up
towing package to go along with the suspension
1000 miles ago, there was an oil change, tire rotation, alignment, as well as everything under the car was greased up
There is zero rust on the frame, it has been undercoated (didn't come that way from the factory)
the body is in great shape with minimal rust spots. Largest is the size of a quarter
the paint is in great condition for being 19 years old
The interior is fantastic with one small rip in the drivers side of the seat
It also came with the 4 old tires, and a kobalt truck tool box

It drives GREAT. There are no creaks or moans, although it sounds like there is either an axle out or the wheels just rub at full turn. I am in love with this truck. The engine and tranny have 2 years, or 25,000 miles left on the warranty. This is going to be my DD and i am going to spend some good quality time on the crx, making it super fresh and ready for auto-x/possible track time.

Plans:
take out the tool box, install a light bar
spray in bed liner
SR5 gauge cluster swap (relatively easy from what i've read)
I'm thinking i might end up putting a 4 inch lift on, but i haven't really decided yet.
side step, it's pretty high up as it sits and i'm a short guy
I'm also thinking about buying some junkyard doors and making some sweet half doors for spring time and/or offroading

I have one picture but i will post more tomorrow

Kind of a feeler, I bought it new 2 years ago and have yet to use it in my new car. I will let it go if I get my asking price of $55. Brand new I paid something like $130 and it was only ran for less than 2 months actively. Here is a little summary of it.

"The Vector 940 has superior protection from the most advanced radar detection tools. Its all-new microwave receiver delivers the longest possible warning on all radar bands, including the latest "POP" mode Ka-band threat. Vector 940 provides 6 times the sensitivity of any imported radar detector, and its lightning fast microprocessor can detect and process signals quickly, for a crucial advantage.

All radar and laser band coverage provides protection on the road
Multisensor laser protection adds another layer of coverage for your vehicle
Clear digital voice or audio alerts
VG-2 immunity helps prevent detection of your radar unit
Digital POP alert provides fast warning when Ka signals are detected
Advanced AutoScanÔäó processing filter rejects unwanted false alarms
Easy-to-use options and controls; ultra-bright display and brightness control with Dark Mode"
6 times the sensitivity of any imported radar detector!!

 Madison Motorsports gets interviewed!
Posted by: Jake - 04-13-2010, 03:26 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (12)

I really wish this was a longer segment, but exposure is exposure! Basically, I had a video reporter from The Breeze contact me saying she wanted to do a little package on MM and what we do. She and a few others came down to VIR in March, and also showed up at the car show. They interviewed me and numerous other people, and this is what resulted! If nothing else, it serves to get our club more out into the JMU sphere and the Harrisonburg sphere. Enjoy!

Halo Reach Multiplayer Beta Party (May 3rd)
Posted by: G.Irish - 04-13-2010, 02:14 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (17)

Gonna have another get-together for the Halo Reach MP Beta release on the 3rd. Like last time I'll try to secure a second TV so we can play at least 4 at a time (maybe up to 8?).

Location: 409 Hillwood Ave, Falls Church
Time: 6 pm - 10 pm (or later)
Food: Patacones (fried green plaintains), chicken-bacon kabobs, beer

In the next 2 weeks I'll work out the extra TV and extra Xbox details. Will probably need someone to bring their Xbox and copy of ODST since that's what has the MP beta invite on it. It was a pretty good time last time (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8799) but with all of the new features of Reach it should be even more fun.

Hopefully we can record some hilarious assasinations...

Consumer Reports Calls Lexus GX 460 Unsafe

By KATE LINEBAUGH
DETROITÔÇöConsumer Reports magazine dealt Toyota Motor Corp. a blow Tuesday issuing a rare "don't buy" recommendation for the 2010 Lexus GX 460 sport-utility vehicle.

Four of the magazine's auto engineers found a safety risk during their standard emergency-handling tests.

The Lexus luxury SUV "slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control," the magazine said in a statement. The electronic stability control system is designed to prevent vehicles from sliding out in a turn.

In a real-world driving situation such as exiting a highway ramp, the condition could cause a serious rollover accident, Consumer Reports said in a statement. "Because the GX is a tall SUV with a high center of gravity, our concern for rollover safety is heightened," the magazine said.

The magazine said the "don't buy" designation is rare, and the last time a vehicle's performance was considered not acceptable was with the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited. The recommendation comes as Toyota tries recover from a safety crisis that has hurt its reputation as a quality leader amid concerns that its Toyota and Lexus products are prone to sudden acceleration.

"We're concerned with the results of Consumer Reports testing on the Lexus GX 460," Lexus spokesman Bill Kwong said in an email. "Our engineers conduct similar tests and we feel these procedures provide a good indication of how our vehicles will perform in the real-world."

Mr. Kwong said the auto maker will try to duplicate the tests to determine if any adjustments steps need to be made, and noted that the vehicle "meets or exceeds" all federal testing requirements.

"Customer safety and satisfaction remain our highest priorities," Mr. Kwong said. "We take the Consumer Reports' test results seriously and appreciate Consumer Reports bringing it to our attention."

The magazine's auto engineers performed the test on all 95 SUVs the company has ratings on, and said: "No other in recent years slid out as far as the GX 460, including the Toyota 4Runner, which shares the same platform as the GX."

In the first three months of the year, Toyota has sold about 4,800 of the Lexus SUV.
