  Strange humming noise
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 02-11-2011, 10:58 AM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (9)

Hoping someone can help me diagnose a strange noise that started in the malibu yesterday. The best I can describe it, it sounds sort of like a truck with mud tires sounds going down the highway, just muffled.

It started randomly yesterday on the way home from work, and it seems to be tied to engine speed, but not one to one. In other words, if I am going down the road and accelerate, I hear the humming noise catch up to speed after the engine revs, not right as the engine revs.

Any ideas? :dunno:

Hey all I'm new to the forum. Name is Mike. I have a 1973 Chevelle that is lowered, has aftermarket brakes, 17" wheels. A 350 with a cam, intake, 4bb carb, gear drive, headers and dual exhaust. Probably not what some on hear are used to. I had a 95 Firebird with a roll cage and a bunch of upgrades, but I sold it. My main reason for getting involved with this forum is I have started a new business that is right up all of the peoples alley on hear and I have contacted the admin about maybe trying to sponsor some events. It is ALTERED SPEED & FABRICATION and I do any thing from custom roll cages and roll bars to full tube chassis cars, all types of suspension mods and wiring, and can get most all accessories. I just am trying to get my name out there now. Should have a website to check out within 2 weeks. alteredfab.com which will have some of the work I have done and some of my credentials.

  Greetings from CCVT!

Flip a coin, get a free pizza... win...

-Epic Southern X trip (10:00pm till forever)
We will be leaving from the commuter lot at 10:00pm. Leaving at 10 will put us arriving there somewhere around 11. This is always a blast and unders are always welcome to come. There will be a thread about this with more information and a carpool sign-up sheet created sooner to show weekend.

Registration will run from 10 till 12:30. No ballots will be handed out untill after 12:30. Registration will close promptly at 12:30. We are going to organize the show much better and a little bit differently this year in anticipation of a MUCH larger turnout. We are currently getting in contact with roughly every car related group within 100miles and from preliminary responses we should have a huge show! We are also working towards getting a charity sponsor and a number of private vendors to come out as well as hopefully a few race cars. I will make a thread soon to explain everything in great detail and explain how registration and preregistration will work.

-Post Show Cruise (4:00pm till 6:00pm)
We will be meeting in the North Main St. Foodlion parking lot and departing on a cruise. Preliminary rout is 460w to rt42 to 311e to Mt. Tabor rd. home. Get your gas quickly after the show and we will be departing promptly at 4.

  Car Show Question
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 02-08-2011, 12:56 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (18)

What kind of promotion is going into the car show? Do we have a dyno set up? We have always mentioned promoting the car show by parking a car or two right in front of d-hall (like the frat guys do for days on end in their mobile homes). Is this being done this year? Its always been a really good idea to be in the middle of campus to promote the car show. What kind of promotion is going into the car show? Do we have a dyno set up? I think we have a really good date this year for it and later than usual so hopefully good weather.

Just wondering as an alumni it makes it really hard (aka impossible) to go to the wednesday meetings where this discussion may be taking place. The car show is our largest fundraiser for the club in the past so id like to see a ton of effort (it may be being done but I know at least I am out of the loop). We have fairly active alumni on the board, make sure that as current students you use that resource to your (the club's) advantage.

Hey everyone my name is Keith Miller. I'm a junior management major and I went to the meeting on Wednesday night and really liked what I saw/heard. I've wanted to join MM for awhile now and have been to the last two car shows. I currently drive a black 1990 Mustang Lx convertible 5.0. Got the car back in highschool and have done some work on it including bolt on mods, paint job, etc. I can list the things I've done to it if anyone wants to know in detail. I wish I could put some more money into it, but I bought a black and red 2005 Honda CBR600rr motorcycle this past summer so my funds are kind of limited. I hope to meet many of you and go to a lot of the events this semester. I just need to meet up with someone to pay my $25 anytime that is convenient.

-I'll also post pictures soon

  Srs business....its UFO time!
Posted by: Goodspeed - 02-04-2011, 12:17 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (6)

(Moved this to its own thread because UFO)

If you haven't seen the video (which, strangely, was all over CNN/BBC etc for a day then is mysteriously gone DUNDUNDUNNN) some say something was strangely and suspiciously sitting above the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem on the 28th.

Decent video

Decent video in half and tenth speeds

Now, before you go off on all your tinfoil hat feck you's, I realize this is most probably some fake/viral video. However, whats interesting is the fact that in the above videos, it is very hard to create a fake lighting effect that does what you see there (the flash on the ground). Basically, I'll let a film editor sum it up:

Quote:Look at the flashes when they hit the camera. You can see a few dots to the right of the object which is actually light bouncing around in the camera between the lens and diode. So those flashes were real light from the object hitting a real camera. Also, the light from the flashes hitting the ground seals the deal. Hint: Watch it in slow motion.

Notice how the light hits a central point on the buildings below and spreads outward. That is how a real flash works. It has a point of origin then it propagates. Also, look at how the light illuminates all of the buildings below. Faking that many shadows is a cool trick for a pro let alone a bunch of pranksters. If you guys think you can do that on your Macbook with canned video editing software then post up a night shot knock off. Good luck.

James Cameron pranking the Jews? :dunno:
