  Little career advice
Posted by: Ryan T - 02-03-2011, 10:13 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (14)

So I'm in a bit of a spot. I started a new job in October. I'm doing basically the same thing, but with juveniles. It's more money than my old job and it's a state job. The director of our office is a family friend, my cousin, I've known him all my life, graduated high school with his son and were good friends. He's a close friend and he helped me get my first job in the probation field then hired me to work for him when a position opened up.

There's going to be an opening with the adult state probation office in two months, which is really where I want to work, and their director has been asking me to apply. The money is about the same but the adult office gives me a better chance of moving into the federal system as a federal probation officer or a marshal before I age out.

My question: Is it a complete slap in the face to my current boss and friend to only work for him for 6 months before I leave and go to another office? Am I going to be burning a bridge I might regret later? Or do I take the job that I want, climb another rung up the career ladder and don't look back?

No, I didn't buy one, I just drove one.

While I was at the auto show, the Ford guy was like 'Sign up for a test drive and Ford will give you a 50 dollar gift card.'

1 test drive, sold, to Rex.

So I show up today at Battlefield Ford and the guy's like "What do you want to drive?" I said a Mustang, thinking he'd give some bullshit song and dance about how they don't let people test drive mustangs blahblahblah. Instead he said "I've got a 5.0 Six Speed with Brembos, is that OK?"

Yeah, that'll do.

Picture this:
With a racing stripe and a wing.

So he puts on the plate, gives me the keys. I situate my ass in a not-terrible leather seat, and try to arrange my mirrors so I can see out these goddamn tiny fucking windows. With the stupid fucking wing in the way. I hate this car. I turn the key.

I love this car.

When you turn it on, some genius at Ford decided it would be a good idea to goose the engine a couple of hundred RPM, and by God he was right. Thing sounds like Odin grumbling under his breath about missing his fucking eye. Like, angry and manly and beastly all at the same time. I'm getting a boner and we're not even out of the parking lot yet. We pull out into traffic on 28. :x However, the car was pretty civilized at low speed. Very easy to modulate the throttle, no jerkiness, just smooth sailing out into traffic. Finally free of traffic the guy is like "Hit it" so I do.

OK, so it's pretty fast. 400+ horsepower in damn near anything is going to get you wherever you're going in a hurry. But honestly, it wasn't you know, earth shattering. It made an unholy noise, and I probably shifted too soon junior because A: I didn't want to fuck up a 39,000 dollar car and B: I am a giant pussy, but Cobetto's M5 felt faster with the same horsepower. You can definitely feel the weight of this car. The size of this fucking thing colors everything you do in it. But it does move. I look down, my peripheral vision telling me I'm doing about 60MPH. Well with this stupid "retro" gauge, what I thought was 60 was more like 85, so I decide it's a good time to use the brembos, and I turn off the main road to try to get some turning going on...about the time I decide to let 'er eat and get around this knob gobbler in front of me... there's ole Cooter in his motorcycle boots with his hand up to the car in front of me. Dodged a bullet there! Cop waves me on, and I gingerly drive it back to the dealer. I pop the hood, and I'm pleasantly surprised. It's pretty uncluttered in there. I mean, there's the engine, and the strut tower brace, and the battery and...that's it. No goofy VW style plastic bullshit, just valve cover and intake and exhaust. Definitely room to work on it yourself if you were so inclined.

The Good:
Noise
Power
Styling (I think it looks good anyway)
Comfort -- For a "sports car" (let's face it, it's a GT) it's quite comfortable
Sync -- Is awesome
Brakes -- For as heavy as this mother is, they worked great
Price -- Starting at 32 for a five oh, I think you get a shitload for your money.
Did I mention the sound?

The Bad:
VISIBILITY -- Good God. Stephen Tyler would hate this car, because he doesn't want to miss a thing. (el oh el)
Stupid 600 dollar racing stripe
Weight. Even your mom would say it's fat.
Price -- Man, the price goes up up up when you start adding goofy shit. You want leather? It's like 1800 bucks.
Shifter -- Was totally ugly. Also, it apparently has a skip shift, which while I'm sure contributes to the phenomenal 27mpg, when I want to do a 1-4 shift, I'll just do one.

To sum up:
It ain't a Fox Body. That's both Good and Bad.

Hello, my name is Addison. I have never used a forum before so bare with me! I ran into a cool dude named Cody at sheetz the other day. He drives an e46 and mentioned this site so I decided to check it out, and I'm glad I did! I fell in love with cars in 7th grade when a friend showed me 2 Fast 2 Furious and since then I think about cars every day Smile My first car was a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 V6. I love it, it was an incredible car, but I then sold it to a friend. For years I've always loved BMW's and have spent a lot of time around them growing up. A friend of mine had an e30 then an e36 and I love(d) them both. My mother had one for a few years and my father has had 3 different within these past few years. So I decided to do more research and fell even more for these beautiful machines. I currently drive an black e46 330ci and am obsessed with it. It's incredible to drive and I plan on having this car for a loong time.
But I join this group mainly to learn more about cars and to meet some new friends that love the sound of high rpm's as much as I do Big Grin

  WTB e36 m3 stock wheels
Posted by: Tyler.M - 02-01-2011, 02:06 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (2)

So, my ds2's are pretty craptacular, and I need a good looking replacement. I don't want any fakes or anything like that, just a good set of stock e36 m3 wheels. Doesn't matter which ones.

Let me know if you guys come across anything. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

  Kawasaki Eliminator

I'm sure most of ya'll have heard me say you'd never catch me on a bike the entire time I was in college because I wasn't mature enough to own one. Well I think I've finaly grown up enough that I would like to venture out on two wheels. The only style bike I'm interested in riding is a cruise style bike. Think Harley but not as expensive. Well a friend offered me a real steal on a 2001 Kawasaki Eliminator. I know it's only a 1 cylinder, 125cc beginner bike. Is this bike even worth considering to learn on/take my test, etc? Or am I better off to wait and just pick up a cruiser that I would be happy keeping for a couple years? Just lookin for some advice Smile

  Ayrton Senna Movie (trailer)
Posted by: G.Irish - 01-28-2011, 12:09 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (32)

A biography about arguably the greatest F1 driver who ever lived. The pre-release reviews have been pretty good, apparently Senna's old boss Ron Dennis was moved to tears by it. Can't wait to see this in theaters (after Fast Five of course Tongue )

Seems like a good price and it gets pretty decent reviews for a no-name TV once its factory settings are readjusted. I don't really NEED another TV but I have a 50" maxent plasma in my bedroom that gets really hot and it's only 1080i. I could probably sell the TV and the surround sound I have set up right now for most of what it would cost for that new TV.

Thoughts? Videophiles?

  Need quick Cell Help
Posted by: Ole - 01-24-2011, 10:55 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (13)

My BB Storm died this morning and I have a trip I have to take for a day with clients. I need something quick. I can re-new for 2 with VZW. Should I get the I-phone and become a lemming or should I get teh Droid or maybe another BB?

Likes of the BB. email, email email. I can't be away from this. I-net is ok but not that great. I use google maps, weather channel and Where and a stock market watcher by Envision, thats about it.

Dislikes of BB Storm: keyboard, no wifi and always having to do a battery pull to reset (at least once a day).

I am not that knowledgable on various Apps but I could get used to having some cool ones i guess. Most important is that I can stay in touch with my clients through my cox.net and hotmail email accounts....

Help please I need to get this today...

Hey all, Looking for someone to fill a delivery driver position at Campus Cookies. I know a lot of you younger folk have their cars and most likely drive around harrisonburg all the time. If anyone wants to work on Saturday and either Tues/Thurs nights let me know. I'm the new manager and due some unfortunate circumstances I am need of another driver. It's a fun job, and it allows a lot of us who like to drive a little spirited to enjoy their car in town with some protection from the police. With the topper on your car, you'd be surprised at what you can get away with. call me at sevenohthree fourzeroone onetwotwofive

Check Out a Bike in Charlotte?
Posted by: Apoc - 01-21-2011, 12:39 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (49)

I'm looking for someone who can spend 15 spend minutes looking over a motorcycle in Charlotte. For the most part, everything checks out, but I'd like someone to see it in person before driving 350+ miles. You don't have to be a bike guy, just know what it takes to spot signs of misrepresentation in a used sale. I'd be happy to Paypal you beer money for your time. I don't think anyone lives near Charlotte, but I figured I'd give it a try anyway.
