Many of you know Kyle, the owner of City Motors on S. Main street in Hburg and general friend of MM - he usually brings out a badass car to the spring Motorshow. I was browsing a magazine rack the other day and saw him and his ZR1 on the cover of Vette magazine.

OK so I am little slow on new tech stuff (old age).... I just tried out Google Chrome in lieu of IE8. I guess I liked knowing where all my favorites were and how I could arrange them according to importance. I had a spellchecker installed and all was good with the world. Now I am trying this Chrome browser and I like the speed but I miss some of those things that made IE so nice (for me).

Should I continue with Chrome or get IE9? what do you all think?

This is why if I ever get a Ferrari, I'll at least start at the 360.

Anyone have experience with color match spray cans? I just picked up a front lip and want to paint it to match my car. Then I found <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.automotivetouchup.com">www.automotivetouchup.com</a><!-- w --> which was a little cheaper. Any places to get a good deal on paint? Will 2 cans of base and 2 cans of clear be enough or overkill? I was thinking at least 3 coats of base and 3-4 coats of clear so it will look pretty good for being a rattle can job. Obviously it needs to be scuffed up and then rubbed with alcohol for prep. Anything I'm overlooking or just general tips?

I learned something today. I'm just wondering if you guys think about this stuff, because I think as a club member (or even just a responsible adult who considers himself a "driver"), on the street, we should strive to be exemplary drivers. I guess I get bored on the street, so I like to nit-pick

I understood it was a VA law that when making a turn onto another roadway, whether left or right, you're supposed to turn into the nearest lane. It bothers me because there are good reasons to do so, and I'd say 90%+ of drivers I see do it wrong. I found that it IS required when making a right turn per 46.2-846.

Personally, I think it makes obvious sense to hang to the closest lane. Imagine the guy who's approaching the intersection, already on the road you're turning on to. We've all been in both positions. It's really nice when the approaching car can count on the turning car to leave him a lane, rather than intermittently occupying all of them because he cannot be bothered to turn a little later, and a little more sharply. The approaching car then has to slow down and wait for the fool to pick a lane instead of safely zipping on by him. And in the first example above, blue and yellow, red and black can all do what they want to do simultaneously if they can count on the other drivers. Semi-trucks, trailers excluded when necessary of course.

Anyway, take note the next time you're at an intersection and get excited when you see someone do it right! I like to be the blue or red car, turning right on red when a line of cars is all doing the left wrong, and then people get surprised and pissed when they see that I dare make them have to stay in their lane. How dare I! hock:

If I were a cop that's all I would do is ticket people for this. And crossing the stop bar. And not using a turn signal. And I would get fired. :lol: But I think it's indicative of lazy, inattentive driving, and I don't want myself, and people in this club, to fall into that group.

super exciting topic I know! Well I thought I'd share what I learned in case others are curious about LED taillights. I wanted to try one for two reasons.
1) Faster response
2) Hopefully brighter

I read a lot of mixed experiences, many saying they aren't as bright, LEDs are not as bight off angle, and reflectors aren't designed for them, and blah blah, so I wanted something pretty bright.

As you can see, photos don't show a big difference in brightness, though to two different sets of eyes, the "high" (brake on) was brighter. And the off angle on high or low didn't seem to be a problem. Looked like a pretty normal light to me. And it responds noticeably faster. So I'm content.

Some things to look out for if you're looking to buy:

Include "SMD 5050" in your search. You don't want this type with the through-hole LEDs

And there are a few SMD sizes, most often used are 3528 and 5050. 5050 is a larger size and approx 3x the output per LED.


As you can see, 36 of them is somewhere in the range of what you're looking for to emulate or beat a 27W stock bulb. If you look around, you can find some that are longer with 50+ SMD5050s on there, that would be sweet as long as it'll fit in your housing. So check how much room you have available.

Match LED color to what you want to see. While the stock light might be white/yellow, and then red or amber due to the lens, a "white" LED is really 3 different color LEDs and much more of the light is just going to get filtered out by the lens.

It doesn't seem like any reputable manufacturers are making the things (they're probably not legal for street use), so yes, it's going to be super china brand. Oh well. Fortunately there's not much to the product, mine appeared pretty well made. But much of what's out there would be woefully underpowered if you don't know what you're looking for.

For turn signals, yes, you'll probably have to put a resistor in-line or buy a bulb that already has that or the turn signal will flash fast since the bulb isn't drawing much power. At least in may case, for a brake light, this wasn't necessary.

Time to downsize the Miata fleet a little (and free up some $$ for the red car and SM...). 1990 Miata, freshly painted white (not a perfect job, but a good 10 footer). 198k on chassis but the motor has been replaced at some point from the original short crank motor to a long crank motor. Has all the basic things, power windows, AC, power steering, cruise control, CD player. No rust and the car has never been wrecked as far as I can tell. I just replaced the suspension with new Tokico struts and has a new OEM exhaust. Has a hardtop only. The soft top was beyond repair and was trashed. It runs great, I've been using it for my daily driver for the past couple of months and if it doesn't sell I am going to pull the motor to put in my red car and part out the rest of the car (or keep it as a back up chassis for the Spec Miata)

Just trying to get rid of stuff I don't need, so here's some garage/car-related stuff that I just don't need any more. For the tool bag, I'd recommend arranging for delivery/pickup; shipping is going to cost more than the actual goods due to weight.
