My 2002 was restored in '99 and I've been daily driving it for almost 2 years. Runs great every day. It's got a Weber 32/36, Pertronix ignition, larger alternator, headers, (all really common upgrades) but other than that the engine is stock, it was new in '99, compression is good, and my time with it has led me to believe it is in good tune.

Today after a drive to Richmond, stopping in Charlottesville on the way back, I got off the highway and suddenly it was barely idling, running really rough. I've never seen it do this. Quick inspection over beers with John and Brian led me to believe more beer would solve it. :dunno: It didn't. I got it back to Roanoke under pretty normal highway speeds, oil pressure and temp were fine, but it flutters badly on low-speed acceleration, idle is low and engine shakes violently, but under load and at medium revs... it seems nearly normal. Strong fuel smell. Backfiring a lot. Sounds like a tractor coming up the neighborhood streets.

I thought I was down a cylinder, maybe ignition.
Pulled the plugs figuring one would appear fouled, and they all are identical. Fairly white though. Inspected cap, rotor, wires, they aren't perfect, but seem ok. Vacuum leak? Couldn't find a loose or even brittle hose. Pulled off air filter, carb butterflies and choke plates appear to be functioning normally... though I'm no carb expert.

I figured for it to suddenly turn to crap, I'd find something obvious. What am I missing? Tomorrow I'm going to check the timing, possibly the tensioner failed and it jumped a few teeth? Other ideas? :|

Anyone ever shipped a car via a transporter company? Specifically a race prepped Cayman. I have a cayman coming into VBD for a Martini Livery, should look very cool once it's done, and then need to get it to Bonita Springs, FL so the owner can race at Sebring. Anyone have any leads on a reliable company? He is from Canada and lives in FL in the winter and for some reason his Canadian shipping company is not legally allowed to pick up within the US :dunno: I know it's a long shot, but figured I would try.

Need to pick up a couch sometime between now and November 2 in Ballston and transport to Vienna.

I work in our Software Quality Assurance department and we've just opened up several positions that we are looking to fill. The positions are with SNL Financial, which is based out of Charlottesville but has offices around the globe and quite a few throughout the US. We are hoping to fill these positions in our home office, but working out of one of our other offices/home-based isn't completely out of the question for the right person.
We've grown a lot over the past few years and projections are showing no intention of stopping that, so there's potential for advancement and great experience here. I've been with the company almost 6 years (in Quality assurance for 9 months) and have learned a ton in my tenure that I have no doubt will be useful in the future.

We are hiring for two different areas: software development and test engineers.

Developer (SDET): This is a dev position that will be coding for testing purposes, such as applying automation on cases that are consistent enough that having a person doing it isn't cost-effective when a computer could. This frees up that human resource for something with more variability and greater benefit to the org. The emphasis here is on a good, hard-working employee. We obviously would like experience too, but it isn't a mandatory requirement and the position will be adjusted accordingly if we find the right person.

Tester (STE): This will be people physically testing software products, either for our internal or client-facing products. Generally you'll be building test cases for new enhancements, testing them, and working with PMs and devs to make sure they're done correctly - its your job to make sure it works before it ships (we do full regression before releases as well; you'll usually have an area carved out that you are responsible for). This is what my position is, and I really enjoy it. We're hiring for senior/experienced positions AND entry-level. The key here, in a nutshell, is being able to take a vision and see the different ways to approach it as a user, or making sure that you foresee how a change in one place is going to impact other areas. Attention to detail is incredibly important, and not being afraid to ask questions for clarification on expectations.

Our development teams follow the Agile methodology of software dev and we try to co-locate as much as we can. The company itself is pretty transparent, and it can be a high-pressure, aggressive environment. The perk to that is that you work with a lot of high-performing individuals and pay is decent. Work culture is pretty chill (dress casual) and the company has a pretty young vibe to it, but I have to admit that it varies a lot depending on your department too (my current QA boss is awesome). If you work hard, you're rewarded here.
