1989 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) AKA: Project ReXJ
Posted by: CaptainHenreh - 01-15-2013, 11:13 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (25)

For Sale:

1989 Jeep XJ

project thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9930

Important deets:
Rust: No perforation anywhere on the unibody. Some bolts, (being the truck is 20+ years old) are a bitch to get loose.
New Stuff: Every cooling part is 100% new. Radiator, overflow tank, hoses, water pump. Power steering pump and lines also put on shortly after I bought the truck last year.
Inspection: Current VA until 11/13
Needs before next inspection: Catback exhaust. (Tires, brakes, etc, are all in great shape.)
NoVA Emissions: Unknown, but I kind of doubt the EmissioNazis would let it pass. I make no guarantees.

Problems: Functional, none. Runs, drives, etc fine. Heat works fine. 4WD works fine. Some positive crankcase pressure and some smoke out of the atmo-vented valve cover...this means that someday this engine will need a re-ring. (But that day is not today, not tomorrow, and probably not the day after.)

As she sits (Roof rack, bumpers): $1500

I have a shitload of parts too. Lift springs, control arms, SYE xfer case, 5x "gambler" wheels, rubicon shocks, gear matched HPD30 + Ford 8.8. All come with the truck for $2100

Reason I am selling: Project RexBaby.

Hell of a deal, I'm losing money, but I don't drive the thing and I see no budget in the foreseeable future for the modifications I want to make.

2013 Car Show - Charity Idea
Posted by: JPolen01 - 01-14-2013, 11:50 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (35)

We have 3 threads on the new corvette, does anyway know how to read?

I figured I would make a thread that is actually important. For this year's car show we have decided to get the charity thing going again and collect donations for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter. As usual we are going to do food for donations and accept donations in general.

I came up with another idea that Dan and I really want to make happen. This is where you old people come me in. We want to bring in 2-3 (more if possible) super car owners who would be willing (read: excited) to give up 30 minutes of their time to take a less privileged little (big brothers big sisters kid) for a ride in their car. Dan is a big brother and is going to set up a raffle system with them. The day of the show we will invite the kids out and pull as many names as we have cars and pair them with owners/cars. So who knows someone fancy that would be interested? Please please direct them to this thread or give them my way contact info. We want to get this knocked out ASAP! This is a great way for us to get involved with the community and make local news for something good! My email is jpolen zero one @gmail.com.

Show planning has begun and we are very excited to put on an unforgettable show!

Can someone make this a sticky? Not sure how to do it in Tapatalk.

I kinda like the non-corvette look, but think they went a little overboard with all the vents, and not a fan that they mostly lifted the tail lights from a camaro.

specs on paper sound awesome. the interior looks real well done, but not in red....that looks like ass.

Thoughts?

My name is Colton Ringgold, I'm 22, and I live in Weyers Cave, just outside of Harrisonburg. I currently go to Blue Ridge Community College and I plan to transfer to JMU in the fall for business management. I've been a car nut for as long as I can remember, but I'm more of a Jeep guy than anything. Currently I own a 99' XJ on about 3" of lift, 35's, locked front and rear, and pile of other stuff I have installed or built myself. It's my toy and it gets driven on the street occasionally. My DD is a 97' Honda Civic hatch that is bone stock all the way down to the silver painted steelies. So JDM . I plan to get some Si's or some sort of factory wheel for it soon, but it needs to stay fairly stock. I hope to meet a lot of you guys and lend a hand whenever needed. Like I mentioned already, I do everything myself and have a welder, grinders, and a pile of other stuff to do some fab work. Here is some pics of my XJ...

 Renting out a house
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 01-10-2013, 11:26 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (12)

Hey, have any of you ever owned a property that you rented out? I have been kicking around trying to rent my house lately, and I made a craiglist posting just to gauge interest and was surprised that I have had several legitimate replies to the ad (makes me think I should maybe ask for more).

If you have done this before, would you recommend using any kind of management company to handle renting it out, or just wing it and write up a lease skipping the middle man? Anything to beware of? I was planning on running a background check, credit and income verification, as well as requiring prior rental history.

 FS: Black E46 M3 Interior
Posted by: JPolen01 - 01-09-2013, 12:12 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (8)

Thread copied from my bimmerforums post. Will remove if not allowed, but figured since VBD is friendly with MM it should be ok.

Hello all. I have nearly the full interior that came out of my e46 m3 racecar. All of this is located in Harrisonburg, VA zipcode 22801. Pick up only-No Shipping. Please contact me (Jon) at jpolen zero one atgmail.com. I will likely not check on here very often. All items came out of an E46 M3 with approximately 80,000 miles on it.

First up is the steering wheel: $450 Firm
Leather is in great shape. No cracks, fading, or loose threads. This wheel does have the airbag in tact and is why the price is firm. It has the steering wheel audio controls as well.

Center armrest: $50
Leather is in great shape. No cracks, fades, stains.

One set unused M3 floor mats, black: $100
One set unused e46 floor mats, black: $45
[Image: floormats_zpsb87cb803.jpg]

Front Seats: $600 for pair, will not separate
As with the other items, the leather is in great shape. No rips, tears, fading, cracking. They could use a good cleaning, but have worn well and have many years of life left in them. These seats are still on rails and will be included with sale. Seat belts not included.
Passenger:

Driver:

Rear Seats:$200 OBO
The leather here is great. Low use so they are hardly worn. Headrests are included. Again, no seat belts.

The stuff on the left side of the seat is a small piece of foam that got stuck to the seat. Didn't have time to wipe it off when I was taking pictures. Will come off easily and look good as new.

Trunk floor board? Not really sure if this has a name or value: Make offer

 Project 93' Camry Beater
Posted by: ViPER1313 - 01-06-2013, 11:13 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (19)

This September I decided that I wanted a reliable, comfortable beater for the winter. In typical fashion, the cheapskate within me took over, and I purchased this gem of a motor from a friend:

When I bought the car, my friend (not the best mechanic) had suspicions that the car had a blown head gasket. According to him, the car was making coolant disappear in a magical, mysterious fashion, and said he had overheated it a few times when it ran low. I looked it over, drove it, found that the car was missing the tube for the overflow reservoir and figured that the car was just pissing coolant out of the overflowing-overflow reservoir when it drove down the road. The car didn’t overheat, didn’t seem to leak any fluids and ran well…

After purchasing it, I found out that he was right and I was wrong – definitely a blown HG. It seems the 3VZ-FE is known for having head gaskets made out of tin foil. The reservoir repair simply made the coolant disappear from the overflow instead of having to add it directly to the radiator. The car was running on 5 cylinders on startup from coolant leaking into the cylinder, then shooting an enormous cloud of white smoke out the back when the plug un-fouled itself. Now I could (and should) have replaced the HG (parts for this car are stupid cheap – you can get a full engine gasket set for less than $200) but $500 car, so eff that, lets stop leak this baby!

Basically you have to flush the cooling system, pull the thermostat, fill it with pure water, run the car for an hour with the stop leak in the system and then drain / refill with antifreeze. This would be a real easy process, except that this is possibly the most complex, sadistic motor Toyota ever developed. There are more vacuum lines in this engine bay than under the hood of a 300ZX, and the engine cooling fan is hydraulically driven, and most importantly, the thermostat is located on the side of the engine beneath the alternator - there is no way to get it out without removing it. How in the hell there are so many of these cars still on the road is a complete mystery to me – I think they are mostly 4 cylinder versions… My SHO was a breeze to work on compared to this thing.

So, after gallons of antifreeze / water spilled on my driveway and removing / replacing the alternator 3 times - Great Success™ …. the head gasket no longer leaked! No more stumbles on startup, no missing coolant, right up until the point the water pump died a terrible gel-induced death 1000 miles down the road and started spilling antifreeze quicker than I could put it in. No big deal, except that the pump is driven by the timing belt. So this is how it the motor sits tonight:

I'm going to replace the water pump and see how much longer this thing will hold together

TL/DR - Bought a 93' Camry with a blown HG, the car is a POS, I'm cheap as hell and hate the 3VZ-FE.

16 foot car/utility trailer for sale

Hey guys,

I've had my trailer on CL for a little while now, and thought I would see if anyone here could use one. The ad describes most everything, but please contact me if you have any questions. The only thing I've noticed with it lately is one of the tires doesn't seem to hold air and probably needs to be replaced.

Please email me at: c.procopio@gmail.com

Ad is here:
