Hi my name is Aloke and I'm a junior business major at jmu. Unfortunately I don't have a car as cool as any of you guys, currently whiping a 2009 camry. This is my first year of getting into cars beyond the "wow that looks fast" phase. I can thank my roommate garrett hughes for getting me out to the madison motorsports meetings, teaching me some basic car knowledge, and letting me help him work on his car. He even got me working with him at the racetrack this weekend at VIR. Anyway's i'm really psyched to keep learning and to see some awesome cars, races and to meet more of you.

I was thinking about this a while back and a vivid memory from my childhood came back. I was 12 years old and my mom and I were living in Panama while my dad stayed in Virginia. I had come up for the summer to visit my dad, and my dad were taking a road trip down to North Carolina to visit my Uncle George.

My dad was military so of course he wanted to get on the road by 5 am, so off we went down 95 in his white Accord LX Coupe. I was asleep in the passenger seat (as is my custom) when I woke up suddenly to a feeling I had never felt before. I had the sense that I was disoriented in space, like I was twisting in the ether with no bearing or direction. When I looked out the front of the car, we were in a full on tank slapper in a grassy median.

My dad had fallen asleep at the wheel and presumably was jolted back to attention by the same thing I was. Luckily he regained control of the car without crashing. We pulled off at the next exit to check the car. I remember my stomach was still tied up in knots.

My dad felt really bad about our 4-wheels-off adventure, and he was rightfully fearful of the wrath of my mom if she found out. That was the summer that I had discovered Street Fighter II, so for the price of my silence, I asked my dad to buy it for me for SNES. Thinking back makes me wonder how cold-blooded I really was at that age.

To this day when I feel a car or bike rotating I can sort of feel it in my stomach the same way I felt it that morning in '92.

So, what was your first memory of oversteer?

1993 Miata SE. Fully loaded with leather, PW, AC, cruise control, etc. 100% stock. . Garage kept. Brand new top ($975 installed). 145k (will go up as I am still driving the car). I have too many cars so something has to go to make room in the garage.

I'm hoping to change that this year with the club! Currently I'm driving a 2003 e46 325i that I got over the summer. I've still got a few things to fix on it for the moment but its running well and I'm hoping to try autocrossing it this year.

Hey, so here's a thought experiment.

While living in WV, I have put roughly 2000 miles a month on a car for going to work and back. I was looking around on some of these lease trader websites, and I see that, for approximately the same money I was paying for the malibu, I could buy a (probably better) car with say 2100/miles left on say 12 - 15 more months of lease. The reason being that, i guess, people banked miles, never got around to using them, and now want out of a lease.

Take this car for example:

Not saying I would buy it, but just a good example. This is a Titanium edition of the car. For $7500 you could drive the piss out of it for those 16 months (which I would do), and then turn it back in no questions asked, and with no downpayment up front. This works out to approx 15 cents a mile. The malibu on the other hand which has basically no residual value has so far cost me about 11.5 cents a mile, with almost none of the features of that car.

Also, you can search by buyout amount too. For that car, if you were dead set on buying a ford fusion Ti, you could potentially pay that lease, and the buyout for $24,xxx total for a car with 10k miles on it. That's about 4k less than the cheapest used one i could find on truecar.com used car search.

Thoughts?

I've been looking for a E36 M3 Sedan recently and have found one that fits the bill for everything I'm looking for feature and mileage-wise. And it seems to be in pretty good shape based on the pictures.

I've already contacted the dealership to see if they have any maintenance records since I know that makes a big difference on the price.

KBB says the dealership value should be around 7500. Not sure how accurate that is for these cars.

What do you all think? I think 9000 is high, but dealerships can usually be talked down a good bit on used cars.

Edit: I've already read up a good bit on all the various suspension and cooling system pieces that need to be maintained on these and am perfectly fine with doing all that work myself if need be. So hopefully I know what I'm getting myself into with one of these. If they are otherwise fairly reliable, I think one of these would make a good daily.

The other day I picked up my PS3 off the top of my desk and moved it into a corner in the closet. At this point i stared at the PS3 and said "Why am i even bothering?" So basically i think i've out grown games and i don't have time for them either, so away she goes! Its a 160GB, i've got both controllers, it works just fine, i just need to wipe the dust off of it. AND ACTUALLY if anyone wants a PS2 i have one at home too.. lol, those are so old now. You can have the memory card too plus a transparent blue controller, boss! 8)
