  BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona
Posted by: NTIman - 09-24-2013, 12:42 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (91)

The annual College Challenge is coming up!

Who is going to be there representing MM?

For those of you who have never autocrossed or driven competitively before, this is a great time to get your feet wet. It's affordable, close, and there will probably be a lot of experienced MM'ers there to help answer any questions you may have.

If you're interested in making it out and aren't sure where to start with prepping or anything, no worries, as Unca Rex has already solved that problem here So you wanna do an autocross

Driving:
Jake Thiewes- G Stock
Jason Lineberg- H Stock
Adam Flint- ASP
Brad Fischer- B Stock
Justin Gallamore- ESP
Ryan Herold- Novice
Gerald Irish- A Stock
Peter Tyson- STX (?)
Matthew Walker (?)
Adam Lee- D Stock

Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 09-24-2013, 09:54 AM - Forum: Events - Replies (16)

Hey guys! I frequent a forum called TacomaWorld and I recently met a guy who is from around here on there. He informed me about a pretty cool event that's going on here in Harrisonburg at the Toyota place on the 26th. Now, it IS more centered towards trucks like Tacomas and such, but there's going to be a lot of cool stuff. The forum post about it there is really well done, so I'll link it, but I'll also summarize a little below.

  Mismatched spring / shock combo
Posted by: Steve85 - 09-23-2013, 10:03 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (3)

My car originally came with the performance handling package Z51, which included stiffer springs, bigger bars and revalved shocks. I have 5-6 year old "Z51 Spec" Bilsteins, so they are valved for the stiffer springs.

I noticed the rear squatting a lot more than I would expect on so I got curious and checked the spring code. I have the regular spring in the back so it was swapped out at some point. :x

The front/rear rates for Z51 are 63.5 / 57.2. The rear spring on the car is actually 39.9.

Bars are 30 / 24 (Z51 spec) and the bar that came with the softer spring suspension was 20. So I have a mismatch of bar/spring/shock, with the spring being much softer than spec'd for in combination of the other parts.

How would you expect this to effect handling?

I can't explain it well, I it just feels "sloppy" in the rear. :bootyshake:

  WTB: Car for my mom
Posted by: davej - 09-23-2013, 02:10 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

My mom has an 02 malibu that needs to go away. Trying to talk her into a Accord/Camry/etc or CRV/Forester/Rav4 kind of thing. awd is a plus in upstate ny. I'm kind of thinking about finding/buying something down here for her as it'll be a ton cleaner than any northeastern used car. Figured I'd throw it out there in case you know of anyone selling something boring, automatic and reliable. price range ~10-12k, but older/well maintained high mileage for less are fair game for a few years.

She's coming down to visit this weekend, not sure i'll find something by then but it'd be convenient for her to drive it back up.

Honestly that's way better than I thought it would be. For less than the price of a base Cayman you can get something lighter and probably faster around the racetrack. Whether it will stay in one piece is another story.

Now if only they would fix those hideous headlights and idiotic looking sideview mirrors.

  Goldwing

Is anyone here into touring bikes? We traded in a 2010 Goldwing Level 2 (no I am not trying to sell it, already did that) just other other day and I have to say I was impressed by it. I guess I like gadgets and all the gadgets and little hidden compartments and features were really cool. This thing had nav, heated everything (no dick warmer), 6 cyl engine, electric reverse, just loaded. Honda dealer that bought it from me said it had everything but ABS and airbags (I was like, LOL!). Only thing I don't get is the price. He paid over $25,000 for this MOTORCYCLE...WTF. With the matching trailer the total was nearly $31,000. I didn't get nearly that for it but I made my cash so whatever. I just can't imagine spending that much money on something that is so close to being a car. Wasn't an old person either, he was in his 30's. Guy that bought it from me originally sold it to the customer. He said of him he wasn't the typical "wing buyer." If I was going to do the motorcycle thing....it was nice. Anne hopped on the back seat and I got on the front, she says "If I trusted you more this could be fun." :dunno: :bootyshake:
