So I have a dilemma with the Miata. Not only does it have to go but I believe that the transmission is shot. I have a broken hand so I can't work on the car at all or at least the extent I can is very limited. Would anyone want to take on the job and get paid or take something I own? Still not completely convinced it's the transmission but AAMCO insists it is. Symptoms are 1,3,5 aren't going in at all. It feels like it could be the shifter cable but I don't know if that has north/south movement versus east and west movement. The shifter feels like its getting held back from going forward, like a resistance band is holding it from coming forward.

Another would make a great seat for a chumpcar/HPDE car with the caveat you're a skinny SOB. I guess I gained a lb's since last time I sat in my friends seat, so basically this seat has been used lightly. There is one small imperfection in the seat [pictured]. Other than that, it's good condition.

Edmunds did a useful comparison of the three types of tires in winter temperatures on various road conditions. The results are somewhat surprising for summer tires.

The very condensed version is that summer tires perform the best (even in cold temps) of the three types on dry and wet surfaces. However, they completely fall on their face in the snow.

All-seasons do alright at everything, as is expected.

Winter tires do well in the snow and worse than the other two at everything else. Again, fairly expected.

The take-away is that you're fine to run summer tires in the winter as long as you aren't going to be touching snow/ice. :thumbup:


Obviously these results will vary depending on the exact tires used.

TL/DR: Cheap ones from china are impregnated with oil with makes proper material transfer nearly impossible, metal is low quality, and they aren't balanced well. Also, author claimes that size-for-size, iron rotors out stop carbon ones. Interesting.

I have two piece rotors on my car, but I still opt for the lower cost rotors that are covered in oil. And I always fight pad transfer problems. This article makes me consider getting good rotors next time.
