So I test drove two cars today (E36 M3, R32)
Posted by: JackoliciousLegs - 06-05-2005, 12:06 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (28)

First, the 1992 325 fully converted to an M3. This thing was a pile of shit and was the first e36 M3 (if you can call it that) that I drove. It might've been worth 6500 to someone, but not me. My RX-7 felt like it pulled just as hard, if not harder... handled better (even though it had M3 diff and bilsteins with HRs)... and felt more solid (if that's possible). It was a rust bucket that looked good from far. It was truly a disappointment after all the buildup.

Then, off to carmax to test out a 2004 R32 with 6k on it. I have to say, I hated VWs going in. I'd never been really impressed with anything they've made. Sure I love the old rabbits and GTIs cuz they're small and nimble... but not really as sports cars. I went in also thinking that it would be a watered down, slower version of the STi... with similar build quality (better than the evo).

Man... was I wrong.

FYI. I liked the STi (solid construction, fast), hated the evo (poor build quality, BAD boost lag) but enjoyed both of their handling.

The R32 felt good from the first step into the car. I slid right into the Koenigs and easily found a perfect driving position. I turned the key to hear a GLORIOUS growl of the 3.2. WOW. This sounds better than the M3 I'm thinking. The seats are SOOOOO comfortable. The steering wheel is the best I think I've ever felt. Thick, grippy... just quality. I slowly pull away and feel that this is a different beast than my roommate's fully loaded 04 VR6. This is a monster.

The car is warm and I pull away briskly... DAZZLED by the torque of the thing. I can't help but notice the sweet exhaust note humming through the sunroof.

I take my first turn... a U turn at full throttle to feel a very neutral handling car at my fingertips. Mild understeer... but it still felt downright amazing. Predictable and direct. Torque, torque, and more torque pouring out of the engine as I peer down at the speedo grazing 70 mph. WOW this thing is fast. The power comes so much more effortlessly than either of its Japanese rivals. The steering feels tight, nimble, and above all.... firm.

It seems that I've fallen in love with this car. I can't even describe the joy that it gave me to find a car that could fit 4-5 people comfortably... in style... that gave, imo, the perfect amount of "sport" to an everyday car. This is the one.

Please tell me there's something wrong with this car. Why it's impractical, unreliable... something. Give me something to hate it for....

so I can bear to be without one until the day I can afford it.

so with this new 240, i'm trying to figure out if its got a limited slip diff. with the rear end off the ground, i can spin one wheel and the wheel on the other side spins, but in the opposite direction. i thought that diffs would make the wheel spin in the same direction. also, i thought an open diff would make only one wheel spin. so whats goin on with this situation?

Found this on the NASIOC forums, thought some of you Honda guys might be interested... looks like it's in pretty good shape aside from that one rust spot near the wheel well.

  FS: four 15x7" Ronal wheels
Posted by: Maengelito - 06-04-2005, 03:22 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

so many of you know, and a few of you may not know that i too have jumped on the 240 bandwagon. i recently bought scotty's wheels to put on this 240 and i am selling the old ronal wheels it already had on them. they are 15x7 38mm offset with the crazy ass 114x4 bolt pattern. they're dirty, old and beat up but still hold air fine. 3 of the tires still have lots of meat on them, 1 has some tread left. they would make good spares for d0r1fting (blair) or just good to have around if you have like eighteen busted 240s (dave). i think they fit accords and preludes too.

$100 for the set. i'll post pics as soon as i take them.

Summer cookout w/ The Chapins (UPDATED)
Posted by: JohnC - 06-03-2005, 12:06 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (26)

Alright, we've finally settled on a few dates for our cookout. This is *not*, repeat, *not* the same thing as the MM Chili Cookoff, which will hopefuly be hosted again by Evan. I trust he'll post up a thread about that event soon enough. And, to the best of my knowledge, none of our dates would conflict with his. Anyhow, this event is just a bunch of MM folks (and probably some of our friends from the area) grillin' out, racing dirt bikes, drinking beer, and jackassing around under the hot Fluvanna County sun.

Vote for your preferred date. They're all Saturdays.

edited by mikey so he could vote for his choice (wanted to see result without hitting the "see results" thing since i hadn't voted)

NOVA traffic can eat a dick
Posted by: bassmangrammy - 06-02-2005, 11:48 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (53)

I'm not sure why anyone would want to like in NoVa. I had to drive up to rockville MD today to drop off an E46 M3 that is having its transmission put in the racecar for saturday.

I left at 3:15...After fighting traffic (oh...traffic isn't bad when you are going the opposite way of the flow...bullshiTTT!!!!!) on the way up and coming home in heavy traffic too, I arrived home about 10:30.

Now I'm tired and I've decided I'm never moving anywhere near NOVA. How can you guys f'in live there?
