What's up MM,
I wasn't sure how this would pan out at first so I kept it quiet. Now that it's going well I thought I'd share. I still have my main job at WildWires, but I've found something pretty fun to do once or twice a month for roughly 6 days.
That's me in the Baklava holding the extinguisher:
![[Image: img_6219.jpg]](http://www.85xr.com/Events/GrandAm_4-22-2006/GrandAmRolexRace422232006/img_6219.jpg)
Blackforest Motorsports has brought me on for the rest of the season to crew with them as they campaign their five Mustang FR500C's in the Grand Am Cup races. That pic was at VIR and since then I've been to LimeRock and just got back from Mid-Ohio. That was my first race so I got all the newbie jobs (like being the E-man) but now that I've been with them I get cooler jobs. It looks like my roll on pits for now is jack man. On the paddock I do everything from pad changes to an engine swap last week. It's fun to work on $130,000.00 race cars with pro race mechanics. I can hold my own on the mechanics so they let me have quite a bit of freedom. The most frustrating part is working with people that refer to one type of tool by five different names, or they give you conflicting requests.
I think what I enjoy most is the atmosphere of the Rolex/GrandAm series. The owner is good to discuss strategy with me as well as let me tag along to some meetings and such. I enjoy the business side more anyhow. I also get to converse with the Ford engineers that support the program.
It's exhausting and there's no way I could crew 365 days/year, but once/twice a month for 6 days is pretty darn cool.
For those of you interested, the VIR 12 hour is the final event of the season. Look up some teams and shoot them an email to see if they need help. They just might!
Just wanted to share.
Pete

"Squirrel Mincer"
Prodrive says they wont build it (but they "could" for about $60k)
rumors are floating that Subaru may pick it up as the next SVX, but I doubt that subaru will ever try to sell a $60k car

For those that don't know, DTK is a documentary about the Moto GP United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca last year. It is the third installment in the 'Faster' series of documentaries about Moto GP.
Ask anyone who's seen any of the first 2 movies and they'll tell you that they are the best racing documentaries ever made, bar none. I expect no different from this one, as it takes a behind the scenes look at the historic USGP at Laguna, which was the first USGP in 11 years, the first time an American had won a race in 5 years, and the first career pole and win for Nicky Hayden. Being there in person, it was easily the best motorsports moment I've ever attended. <<<My thread about the race last year>>>
Its going to be showing at Landmark Theatre in DC on July 13th (9 pm). It will be sponsored/catered by Red Bull and apparently there'll be an afterparty of some sort. Seating is limited to 144 and I have a feeling all of the moto groups in the area are gonna try to get in on it so we'll probably have to set up shop early.
Who's in???

for those of us that arent dropping all sorts of bling on cool shirts with coolers full of ice water and pumps and whatnot, is there anything that you're using to battle the heat while inside the car? i was thinking of just using a camelback full of ice water and just putting it on my chest instead of my back while in the car. with july and august events almost here, proper hydration and comfort while on track is going to be very important, and i'd like a cheaper alternative to dedicated coolshirts.
what are you using?

It's a '91 VR4, supposedly with 23k miles. I'm just thinking maybe this is a flood recovery car or something else gay. The price is pretty decent, at $10,500. I know they're heavy, but since I'm not too heavy into the tracking and stuff, i doubt it'd matter much. I think they'd have enough HP to keep me pretty street happy at least.
