Local ski resorts? Lots of kids stuff too?
Posted by: NASAlaura - 01-06-2009, 03:58 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (9)

Thought this would be a good place to ask!

Since there is a pretty good chance that we won't get snow here in Richmond AGAIN, I am considering taking the kids to a ski place for a weekend. I used to love skiing but I am not sure I want to go on that adventure with two little kids right now, so I am thinking that we might just enjoy playing in the snow and doing snow tubing, etc. Where would you recommend we go? I would be looking for a place that has good outdoor fun in the snow and some indoor things for kids (arcade type stuff, maybe an indoor pool?). And a place that has a cool lodge type bar/restaurant is a must too.
I have looked into Wintergreen and Massanutten but the lodging all gets pretty bad reviews at those places. Snowshoe might be too far although it looks like it has the most to do.
Any help would be appreciated!

So with each new post to the fabled H&B'd thread above this, I'm always left wondering, would that person actually buy that car, if they could? I've always been interested in car collections and the people that make them, wondering why they chose to buy the cars they did and for what purpose.

So, here's the scenario. You just won the jackpot, or robbed a bank, orsome senile rich lady gave you a billion dollars.

Ten is a boring number, any less and you're only medium-ballin'. You have a 12 car garage to fill, so what would you get, and why?

I'll start:

1. Ford GT - I always feel like a little kid at space camp when I see one of these. Must buy.

2. MKIV Toyota Supra - my all time favorite attainable dream car. Naturally, then.

3. Ferrari F50 - my all time favorite unattainable dream car. I'd have to fix that right quick.

4. Ariel Atom - track car.

5. Porsche Carrera GT - Love the tech, love the design (best looking supercar of recent times). Give it some straight pipes for the sound.

6. Maserati Granturismo S - daily beater/sounds so good I can't stand up for a while.

7. Acura NSX - "The thinking man's supercar". Love it.

8. Shelby Cobra (Replica) - Big block, six speed, lightweight, gone.

9. Marcos TSO GTC - 'Vette powered, bespoke British coolness.

10. Ferrari 250GT SWB California - Probably the most beautiful thing ever crafted by the hands of man.

11. Porsche 993 - Set to 'Kill.'

12. Chevrolet C6 Z06 - Good ol' Red, White, and Blue. Yes, I'd take one of these over a GT-R any day of the week.

  Free Papa Johns Pizza!!11!!1

I know we have a free things thread, but this deserves its own thread.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1110371">http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1110371</a><!-- m -->

Pick a code and change the middle letters around. Ive already got 3 free pizzas and helped 4 other people get free pizzas. I would suggest surfing the last couple pages for codes to play with. The ones at the beginning are mostly used up. So far Ive discovered 9 free pizza codes and Im sure I could find more if I tried.

Get it fast. Expires 1/31

So I could buy one of these!

Bought it back in November and Im really really enjoying it so far. The whole place (and I mean everything) has been renovated, everything is new (even the windows). Its a great location, in Falls Church right at the intersection of 495 and Rt 50 Behind Falls Church High school if you are familiar with the area. (RJ just got interested). I bought it for 100k under the Loan Appraisal, and $240k under the sale price in 2006 so I feel I got a good deal.

Obviously a 2 car garage which was a requirement, no HOA (although Ive already had a complaint about my trailer on the street of course!) and plenty of room for me and all my stuff.

more pics (old pics of before I moved in obviously)

not exciting but this is the living room where tv and couch are now
[Image: 423593670_FRkat-L.jpg]

deck is new too

I plan on having some kind of a housewarming party when it gets a little warmer towards spring.

The video is kinda long but you can see that the dude was on the ground and it didn't look like he was resisting. For my money I don't think the cop shot him on purpose but it's fucked up just the same. I don't know what the penalty would be for an accidental firing that caused a death but at the very least there'll be a wrongful death lawsuit.

This is probably late news to most of you, but I just learned Dan had been in the hospital in November for stomach cancer. Dan has been a huge inspiration to me and many of us, and I wish him the best recovery.

  1990 Miata with HT
Posted by: Scott - 01-03-2009, 06:29 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (7)

HELP FUND MY SPEC MIATA: I have a '90 Miata with a matching hardtop w/143k miles. I have all the service records from new, including new paint (could use a clean up) a couple years ago. B package car with VLSD (power steering, alloy wheels, leather wrapped steering wheel, power windows, A/C and cruise control). The car has sat for the last couple of years but it does start and run well, but it could use a tuneup. It does however need new rear calipers (included), and I would replace the pads and rotors (pads included). The soft top is shot, and there is a little rust bubble in the drivers side rear rocker. It also has a set of '94 hollow spokes with newish tires on it. Clear title ready to go.

  Car recommendations for a friend
Posted by: Jake - 01-01-2009, 02:30 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (21)

I've got a friend who's a sophomore at Radford. His first car was a 94 Lincoln Continental with the baller digital dash and less cool (broken) airbag shock system. That car died over the summer and now he wants to replace it. I told him I'd help him look and figured you all might have suggestions as well.

He wants a sedan or coupe - no SUVs/trucks/vans/mopeds. Automatic is fine, but he would learn manual if something really cool popped up. Size-wise, probably not a compact car. He liked the size of the Continental.

He's been looking at Caddy Eldorados and Sevilles, primarily for the bling bling factor I think. I'm concerned about reliability and insurance cost.

Budget is ~$6k or less. He would prefer less than 120k miles, and roughly a 1995 M.Y. or newer. Ideas?
