  The Teaching Company

This company just moved in next door to our building:

I Googled them to find out what they do and found that Professor Scott Stevens from JMU has several offerings on the site. I'm guessing more than a few here took his classes.

It seems like a neat concept, courses designed and administered by professors on CD / DVD without having to sign up for a college course. I'm not sure it's vastly different than books (other than the obvious media difference) by professors but it might be worth a closer look.

To take my mind off all that life has been offering me lately....

Too many beers while cutting the grass resulted in this:

A little bit bigger with filter and waterfall filter in place:

Filling it up and adding stone:

Forum upgrade - give me input!
Posted by: Jake - 05-27-2009, 11:57 AM - Forum: Site Suggestions/Status - Replies (98)

This new MMsports.org site is coming along nicely and should be done soon. As part of the upgrade, I'm upgrading the forum software to version 3, which is current and adds some nice new features.

Only thing is, the current (version 2.x) forum 'theme' file - aka, what defines how the entire forum looks - will not transfer over, so I have to re-create the theme.

In the past, there have been grumblings about the butter yellow colors. For all the nay-sayers, this is your chance to speak up, give me input, and help choose colors for the new forum look.

This is the starting point, which phpBB calls "Pro Silver." I'm a fan of it - minus the blue everywhere. The top 'header' graphic that currently says phpBB will be replaced with our MM header, which I've redesigned slightly for the new site.

Colors used on the new site thus far are black, white, 'pure' yellow (like in the M's in our logo) and what I call 'cone orange' - hex code EE4E3E.

I know there are some phpBB gurus on our site, plus some other folks who have a decent eye for color and design. Give me some ideas for how to best design the forum, primarily color choice, and I'll see what I can do!

  Cell phone provider change
Posted by: WRXtranceformed - 05-26-2009, 11:00 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (151)

Sup people. So I've had Verizon cell phone service since I was like 18 and they have been decent with a few bumps along the road. My 2 year contract is coming up for renewal in July and I'm contemplating switching providers. Right now I'm paying like $89 for 1350 minutes + unlimited texts with no internet data plan or anything... and that includes a 20% monthly discount. I feel like that's really not that great of a deal.

Soon I'm going to need SMS texting and online Google Calendar sync ability due to upcoming promotion. I stopped by the Sprint store and checked out some of their plans and phones. $99.00 for unlimited minutes, texts and internet usage. Sprint apparently has EVDO which I was told is better than 3G? And will be coming out with 4G soon in Charlotte I was also told. I can pick up a crackberry Curve or Pearl for like $50 too.

What are your thoughts on your providers and their available phones? I feel like this question has been asked here before, but the MM forum search function sucks and I'm tired and lazy. I'm going to check out the AT&T store here soon. I haggled with the guy at Sprint and it seems like if I bitch enough they'll buy out my Verizon contract...whatever they are going to make me owe on early termination.

  Logitech Formula Force GP wheel
Posted by: ScottyB - 05-24-2009, 11:37 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (1)

i had alot of fun using this with various games, especially Live For Speed, but i'm finding that i barely have time to get to any of my hobbies any more, not to mention playing racing sims. so, a very nice condition, not-too-used Logitech wheel. i have had this wheel for about 3 years now without any issues at all.

specs:

ÔÇó Bitchin force feedback that works very well
ÔÇó Rubber handgrips for comfort and precise control
ÔÇó Gas and brake pedals for a realistic driving experience
ÔÇó 4 programmable buttons for quick and easy control of horn, lights, view changes
ÔÇó 2 wheel-mounted gear shifters
ÔÇó USB port connection provides easy plug-and-play installation
ÔÇó wheel attaches to table surface via screw-down clamps, very easy to set up and take down while being stable in use

it will not come with instructions or any original packaging, sorry. drivers should be easily available online, at least they were for me (running XP). more pictures available upon request.

$75 shipped to any MM'er, paypal please. some looking around has these at $120 new so i thought this was reasonable.
