Not really news I guess, it was known last year that his contract with Redbull essentially gave him a chance at stock car racing. The only issue is that the other guy involved with this deal has been involved with some shady dealings in NASCAR/sports already.

***SOLD***
For sale is my '97 318ti, mostly crashed. 132800mi, 5spd. Still runs and drives at highway speeds. $1200

more pics here:
http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/318ti%20FS/?start=0
Bought almost a year and a half ago in good shape, no damage, clean carfax, didn't need much. The following I did a year ago to be a reliable DD and occasional track car:
engine oil changed to 5w-30 synthetic
diff and trans fluid changed to redline synthetic
drained/filled cooling system
bilstien sports and H&R race springs
sourced a set of front brakes from a 325, so it's got vented rotors.
Solid brake guide pin kit on front as well as stainless brake lines
new pads all around (something like hawk HP+, can't remember the brand though)
aFe panel filter
Bosch platinum+4 plugs
simplified intake system- shorter, larger pipe from airbox
Then I ran the right rear into a tire wall, all cosmetic damage, put a new tail-light on. Good to go.
Just changed a week ago:
serpentine and A/C belts
fuel filter
urethane front control arm bushings
urethane trans mounts
Then hit a gaurdrail on the left rear and front, which presents me with more than I want to fix. I was able to patch a small crack in the coolant recovery tank and adjust the front toe to get it home, and I've been driving it to work this week, but there's lots to do:
coolant recovery tank (cracked)
airbox (mounts cracked)
some left front suspension component, strut, control arm or tie rod
steering rack? (popping and binding sound up there)
engine mounts (best guess, there's more vibration at idle than there was before)
left rear trailing arm (about an extra degree of camber now on that side)
trailing arm bushings (likely to be done with trailing arm)
possibly a halfshaft
some exhaust related thing (sounds like a minor leak at manifold or cat)
tail-light and front turn signal
both windows are off track, though motors and such work, they need a lot of coaxing and luck to go up and down
and all the obvious body damage, see pics
So it's either:
1) a cheap DD or track car for someone who likes fixing things
2) a rolling parts car
Engine/trans/driveline are still good, interior is complete and decent, race springs and shocks, AC blows cold, power sunroof works great, all switches, signals, glass, wheels (the stock ones are back on now, track wheels got a little scuffed up), brakes, power locks and mirrors, fuel/intake/ignition systems. Just did a compression test to make sure: 195, 185, 195, 200. Looking at the thinner metal around them, I really don't think the frame rails are bent, but obviously the rear unibody would need a lot of work to be right. Or BFH and paint to be passable.
The only other problems I can think of is that the airbag light has always been on, the audio system is pretty sorry (mostly working blaupunkt tape deck and stock speakers with a rear blown), glovebox latch is half broken (still stays closed), and I intermittently get a camshaft position sensor code. Doesn't seem to affect anything.
Any interest?

hey it's fun
I need a "new" daily driver very soon before my current one falls out from under me. *edit*-- Wants are now in order of importance:
4 seats (gotta take Nathan to school, and another one is on the way)
RWD
5-spd
simple and easy to work on and/or won't need any serious work soon
30+ MPG highway
turbo diesel (this isn't very high on the list I guess, but it would make up for a lot)
the smaller and lighter the better
should be able to survive an autocross or track day every now and then
needs to have some character, charm, look nice.... at least in my eyes
Jess wouldn't be embarrassed or scared to drive it
Since that car doesn't exist in the US  I have to pick as many as possible
I could scrap together $7k if the car's worth it, interior's nice, and Jess would want to drive it. But spending half that or less would be fine too if that meant it's not so fancy, doesn't have AC and Jess would think it's crap.
My list ATM, pics from ads I've considered:
VW TDI Golf or Jetta, '99-'05
![[Image: jetta.jpg]](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/jetta.jpg)
I'm having trouble accepting the FWD, but hey, it's 99.5% a street car and maybe it's time to try one. Jess would find it acceptable.
BMW 318i, '84-'85
![[Image: 318i.jpg]](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/318i.jpg)
I know all about these and can find a "nice" one for maybe $2k. Super easy and cheap to work on. I miss mine.
BMW 318ti, '95-'99
![[Image: 318ti.jpg]](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/318ti.jpg)
I'm a little bored with this, and falling apart interiors and plastics suck. It's heavier than it should be.
BMW 2002, '72-'76
![[Image: 2002.jpg]](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/2002.jpg)
Would have to have gone through *some* restoration and paint, I don't want a rust-bucket. Has a lot in common with the early 318 so I should be able to figure it out, and carbs don't scare me. I'm finding a few for $3-$4k, pretty intriguing.
Merc E300 diesel, '98-'99
![[Image: e300diesel.jpg]](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/e300diesel.jpg)
Seems like a sweet car for the $, Jess would like it too. Loses points for the automatic. Probably a pain to work on to keep a lot of 12yr-old electronics and power everything working.
Toyota Tundra, '02, coworker needs to ditch it since he's moving to Seattle
![[Image: tundra.jpg]](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e19/ecpreston/tundra.jpg)
It's a 5-spd, 4cyl, 4WD, extended cab, nice shape, would probably get it for a great price. Meets the least of my requirements but would be useful in other ways.
What else? What fits me?

In for instructing.
I also got a room at the TownePlace Suites in Winchester. I never noticed it before but it looks pretty new and I've been happy with most Marriotts I've stayed in. Anyone wanna split the govt rate with me? The two night total is estimated at $164 including taxes.

Picked it up last week from Maryland. Really excited to get into the BMW world, less excited as I look closer at the car. I checked it over before buying it but seemed to have missed alot...I'll post pics soon but as far as plans for the car after I pay it off that is.
When I say new, just means new to me for most parts like body parts, used will prolly be the way I go.
Needs:
New Hood
New Decklid
New Front Bumper
Front Bumper Grills/Brake ducts and Fog Lights
Front Bumper Splash shield (Motion Motorsports Splitter/undertray combo)
New Splash shields
New Hood release or maybe fiberglass hood with pins
M50 install kit (the m50 install was done by someone less than capable)
Clutch Pedal Bushing Install (have the bushings)
New shifter bushings so probably a short shift kit(maybe z3 or something)
Wheel spacers? (Current setup hits the strut assembly but also destroys the fender liners so not sure spacers are guna be the best route
New Driver Window Regulator
New Driver side Door Lock Actuator
New Moldings in a few places
New Headlights(prolly ebay ones that I'll tear apart and do a proper HID kit from OEM Nissan/Acura Projectors and ballasts. Got a few extra ballasts laying around pulled from broken Nissan Headlights and some acura TL Projectors)(Current setup is sub par at best with the ballasts(ebay ballasts) being just tucked behind headlight, not secured)
Refresh the entire cooling system including new radiator, water pump, hoses, etc.
Maybe an electric fan or new clutch fan because current one is chewed up.
Proably alot more I am forgetting also

I have a buddy whos dad bought a 2006 GSXR 600 at auction that needs fairings. The title is clear and bike runs and drives. The tank is good, forks are good, headlight is good and only needs plastics. I could get it for $1700. Right off the bat I think this is an awesome opportunity. My question is: how well can I trust the $500 complete fairing kits you can buy online? How quickly should I jump to get this bike?
