  oh hello MM
Posted by: .paul - 07-11-2011, 09:57 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (25)

been a long time since i've posted here - but on the way to the office today, I thought of MM. I was behind a cute little Miata with two males with the plate "l8 brake" and a JMU plate frame. If that's someone on here, i was the Touareg behind you on west ox turning left on.. west ox

it's good to see this still lives on. My lil bro now in college is with some autox group at clemson.

I see the RJ loves cock thread is still good. I still need to find the others that I made.

  Halp! Bad Wheel Bearing?
Posted by: Jake - 07-11-2011, 09:31 AM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (11)

So I've recently discovered that when you buy a pimpy old luxoboat for real cheap, things are going to break a lot. I'd like some opinions before I keep throwing parts at this 535.

At the BRR/Morgan Club autocross, us worker folk got some play time in the morning. I drove the E34 for 8 runs, pretty hard. Noticed toward the end that on left-hand turns, there was a little knock/thump. Figured it could be a lot of things but it drove fine, so I drove it home to Nova.

My initial guess was the guibo starting to fail... because when I did the shift bushings, I noticed that uh, the guibo is cracked and nasty looking. The small vibration was still only when turning left and only if you applied some power. Gentle acceleration was no big deal. So I ordered a new one and it should be here soon.

But! In the meantime, I drove the car to the Metro station on Friday evening. No problems. Drove it home Saturday afternoon, and right as I get to Fairfax Corner, I'm getting a BAD thump. Thinking "Okay, the guibo is totally shot now" but not worried, because I'm 500 feet from our complex.

Well, there are a few left turns between FFX Corner and our apartment. On every left turn I'm getting this god-awful metal-on-metal screeching noise. In my hungover haze of a Saturday afternoon, some quick searching is suggesting that it could be the right front wheel bearing. The screech does come from that area.

Car is parked until I figure things out... any input?

So I just bought an 8' pool table with 1" slate to go in my mancave. It needs new felt and I've been considering making it an MM table with the classic MM logo in the middle of the table. The 3 manufacturers I've contacted all need the image in a Vector Files (AI, CDR) format. Can anyone send me a copy of the MM logo in that format? Email is rsthayer @ gmail . com. Thanks!

I figured we would branch this off from the laptop thread

Just got the Roocase leather folio case cover from Amazon in the mail. There really werent any good cases for the TF101 until this one that Derecola found. The quality is very good, the leather seems to be pretty decent and the Velcro system to keep the tab at an angle seems to work really well so far. This accessory pretty much made the tab perfect for couch / bed browsing, which is exactly what I bought it for. The only flaw I can see so far is that the front camera gets covered a little by the case when its set up at an angle, but I hardly ever use the cameras so I'll just have to remember to lay it flat when I need to use it.

Overall a good purchase and it seems to protect the tab well for whatever I paid for it, like $26.

  Repairing Miata Hardtop (Fiberglass)?
Posted by: Goodspeed - 07-07-2011, 02:31 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (5)

The other day I came across somewhat of a find in my sorta-kinda search for a Miata hardtop - a barely used, 10AE Sapphire Blue hardtop off of a car with 7k miles.

The catch is that the hardtop has some sort of damage to it, and the guy pondering selling it doesn't know what to make of it. I have no fiberglass/hardtop experience, but maybe someone here does. Here's the gist and pics:

Quote:There are cracks on the interior of my hardtop above both the driver and passenger windows. The driver side (pictures) is more severe. The outer shell is not showing any cracks yet.

1) Is this a) an integral piece of the top or b) a separate applied trim piece?
2) If it's integral I suppose if not repaired it will grow and eventually appear on the outer shell?
3) Can this can be successfully repaired?
4) Seems like the way to go is with an epoxy resin?
5) Any particular specific product recommendations? And a source?
6) I assume this should be reinforced with some fiberglass fabric?

Somebody he spoke with suggested the side latches were too tight (?). Any ideas?

WTB: 46MM socket, yes im serious
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 07-07-2011, 10:27 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (19)

I am looking for a 46MM socket, 1/2 inch drive. This usually seems stupid, but everyone wants $42-$60 for this damn socket. I figure I could maybe halve that with someone here that maybe doesnt need the tool anymore...

  FS/FT: Ruger LCP .380
Posted by: Ryan T - 07-05-2011, 11:37 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (1)

Ya'll may have read it in the firearms thread but figured I'd post it here. I've got a LCP .380 with the following:

2 magazines that hold 6 rounds each. one has a pinky extender.
2 holsters. One in the pocket and one IWB.
Original box and all accessories.

The guy I bought it from put about 30 rounds through it and I've got around 60 or 65, so total round count is less than 100. It's in great shape and has spent most all of it's life in the pocket holster inside my mothers glovebox. She is looking for a revolver because it's too hard for her to load the mag and rack the slide on this. If you have a compact concealed carry revolver I'd love to trade. I can add cash too. Smallest caliber accepted is .380.

Price: $280 for everything or trade. In southwest va but I will be in Harrisonburg for Jeff's wedding.
