WTB Gun Cabinet
Posted by: V1GiLaNtE - 08-15-2011, 09:33 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (16)

Looking to pick up one of those lockable steel gun cabinets.. Similar to Stack On's..

I've seen lots of wooden ones with glass on CL but that leads people to ask questions when you invite them over..

If you got one or know of someone looking to dump theirs let me know
I'll be at JMU this weekend if that makes any difference..

 Jeep wont stay running
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 08-14-2011, 11:27 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (6)

So I went out to start the jeep for the first time in a while today, and of course, *click*

This is a fairly new battery, so this seems odd to me..didnt seem like anything was left on inside. Went to try to jump it, and it finally started up, but then when it did, I had to keep the throttle applied, or if I let off it would basically immediately die, even while still hooked up the jumping vehicle.

Where do I start looking? I'm pretty terrible at diagnosing this stuff.

 no-fault insurance? WTF
Posted by: BLINGMW - 08-13-2011, 11:05 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (9)

In the "well I did not know that" category, some trashy, potentially drunk lady on the wrong side of the road hits my sister's friend's car head on while vacationing in Michigan. Fortunately neither my sister, her friend, or the lady were hurt due to luck and it being a offset, glancing hit. Both cars are severely damaged, undrivable.
Cop shows up.......
......
...........3 hours later, cites the woman for something, and the woman admits she was fishing for something in her purse and wasn't paying attention, but because MI operates under a no-fault insurance scheme, each driver's insurance covers their own car. La la la, life goes on.

Well damn, that's pretty crazy IMHO. I've listed the states here (thanks wikipedia), I would recommend being doubly careful if you happen to visit one. Any thoughts? Anyone from these states who can explain why the hell it makes sense? It must save the courts and cops some time, and hey, who cares if someone is a reckless driver, it shouldn't cost them any more for their neglect? Most allow tort for injuries over a certain threshold, but some don't even allow that!

 The WANT Thread
Posted by: G.Irish - 08-11-2011, 06:16 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (277)

This is a thread for automotive things that you WANT. Maybe you'll buy it, maybe you won't, but it should at least be in the realm of something you could realistically purchase someday. But, if the only thing you want is a FXX, no one here will judge you.

Anyway, maybe some of you saw some of this art on autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/25/street-spirit-race-car-artist-draws-inspiration-from-graffiti/

I actually met Xander at Sebring, and bought one of his pieces recently. Just saw that he made a new one that I really like, and I'm not even a big Audi fan:

Speaking of which, has anyone seen or heard from Madden lately? He makes some insanely nice art, I'd like to see what he's doing these days.

 Sets of Hoosiers 245/40/17
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 08-11-2011, 12:01 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (14)

Okay, so I have a used set of (4) Hoosier R6s. Bought in February, and have seen heat cycles at VIR March Sat/Sun, Summit April Sat/Sun, VMP 12 autox runs, Summit June Sun, VIR July Sat/Sun.

There are still the "DOT" treads on them so they have plenty of "life" left in them, but ill tell you right now, they arent new. The heatcycles have killed the "competitive" grip out of them, but they are still extremely good for HPDE/Autox work. Still more grip than any street tire. New they are $259 each, I am looking for $50 each. This thread will be updated regularly with my current set of "for sale" tires.

Currently Available:
4x 245/40/17 Hoosier R6s - $50 each.

 BMW Dealership Frozen in Time
Posted by: WRXtranceformed - 08-11-2011, 08:34 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (7)

Thought you bimmer nuts might enjoy this:

In the wealthy suburb of Oakville, Ontario, just outside Toronto, there sits an automotive gem unlike any other: a BMW dealership frozen in time.

The exact details of how this came to be arenÔÇÖt clear, but according to pieced-together details on the MaxBimmer forum, the owner (allegedly named Helmut) had his license to sell BMWs revoked in 1988. Since then, the dealership has sat, although not entirely abandoned. Early posts indicate several old 3 Series models were once on display, but they have reportedly been sold over the years.

In fact, the owner appears to check in on his eerie time capsule quite often, driving an equally mysterious black E28 (1981-88) BMW 5 Series. And while the dealership, ÔÇ£Citation MotorsÔÇØ, is no longer an official BMW store, the cars are for sale. But according to those who have had dealings with the eccentric owner, heÔÇÖs in no hurry to sell, with the the near-new 635csi in the showroom window apparently listed for $75,000.

Peek through the glass and thereÔÇÖs more to be seen, like a silver E28 5 Series, not to mention the ÔÇ£periodÔÇØ dealership design, a poster of the M1 and even a beer stein in a display case. But thatÔÇÖs not all, around back, in the service bays, sit two more 635csi models, a 733i dating from between 1977-84 and a what is either an E21 or a 2002.

A lot of unanswered questions remain about Citation Motors, although perhaps thatÔÇÖs for the best. After all, the mystery behind this abandoned BMW dealership is perhaps just as enticing as the window to the past it provides.

 Learn me on E46 M3's.
Posted by: CaptainHenreh - 08-09-2011, 04:01 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (18)

I hate to be "that guy", but I am a man who knows my limits. "I know that I know nothing", etc. So I humbly beseech MM to convey knowledge to me, without judgement.

So here's my story. Livin' in Hburg now, and buying the WRX in cash allowed me some financial breathing room. So I'd kind of like a "new" car. My first thought, natch, was to buy a new WRX. Problem with buying new is you gotta PAY for it. So I drove one, sniffed around, and...well I'm just not sure it's right for me. No decision made right now, obviously, but I'm exploring my options.

So then I drove a 330i. Now, imma be honest. I never really liked BMW's. I drove an M5, and of course that was an epic experience in Aluminum und Schteel, but it doesn't really count because I'd never own one. (Watercooled alternator = LOOOOOOL) And E36's, while very pretty stylingwise, just didn't get my gizzard. E30's are cool enough in their own right, but a bit gutless and kind of generic. Oh yeah, and old. I figured E46's were fat, gutless pigs who should be taken out back and shot. Maybe 323's are, but the 330 I drove was, well, quite pleasant. Nice torque, good handling, even a rode-hard-and-put-away-wet example that I had the pleasure of running Pace in.

So since then there's been a little worm in my head rattling around. Evil teutonic whispers on my subconscious. "Vy not un MDrei? Zehr gut, Ja?" It'd be cheaper than a WRX, comfortable (as I spend a lot more time on the road than I did in Manassas), maybe a little more adult (if more douchy) and definitely more of a "driver's car" than the WRX. So fuck it, I'll consider it.

So here's what I need from YOU.

Why not? What goes wrong? What breaks? How much is it to fix when it DOES break? What will I absolutely need to do right away if I bought one? What will I hate about it? What should I REALLY consider as a valid alternative? (If your answer begins with "LS-swapped..." please STFU, adults are talking.) Where can I find one? What mileage does the "everything falls apart" timer go off? What should I pay for what?

So, anyway, thanks in advance. I'll be spit-shining and selling the WRX in a month or two, and probably be looking to buy around christmas, hoping to find a deal from someone who didn't want to keep it another winter.

Love,

Rex

TYM4LOL
AX TOY
ANALOG (referring to no driver aids, better than NO AIDS but still, ANAL OG?)

LOOOOOL
LMAOCAR
CAR4LOL

sadly, ZOOMBIE is already taken....
