Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 05-14-2013, 02:38 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (24)

I just got offered this for a trade in for the convertible. I HIGHLY doubt I will accept the trade, but I didnt even know S4s existed then? Do people know anything about these?

  HyperFest 2013 - June 14-16th
Posted by: navin - 05-13-2013, 04:12 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (127)

I figure a month away is a good time to start getting the ball rolling on seeing who is going, what shenanigans will take place, etc... So post up if you are driving/working/attending/drinking beers.

1. Navin -- Driving the open test day + the weekend. (Anyone else getting there on Friday??)

Also there was some talk about doing ribs for the event, if people want to do this we should get a good headcount to make sure we are taken care of + possibly figure out $.

Someone get DJ a mini fridge!

  FS: Open Trailer

A good friend of mine is selling his used open car trailer. Always maintained religiously, and I have used this trailer myself when I had my own trailer issues. Comes with tirerack. Closed deck. Long enough for an E36, so no worries about mustangs/miatas/hondas/bmws

Teknic going out of business: Moto Gear BLOWOUT!!!

I know Chan had one of their jackets and I feel like others here have bought their gear before. Shame they're going out of business, but great opportunity to get some gear for dirt cheap prices. I might get myself a winter jacket or a new suit.

I know this event was tossed around on Facebook a bit, for anyone who couldn't make it here are the pics I snapped. (And of course, for the BMW fanbois on here  ). Great gathering and some awesome cars - I know besides myself DJ, Bailey, Jake & Joey were there.

e36 vs e46 "rear subframe" issues
Posted by: Beej - 05-09-2013, 08:13 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (21)

First, I hate that everyone calls these rear subframe issues. The rear subframe is always perfectly fine - it's the goddamn frame that has issues - let it get bad enough, and you're replacing the trunk floor, not the rear subframe. If only.

Anyway, I bought my e46 blissfully unaware they had this issue. Even worse, I laughed at e36 owners for having a rear end that fell apart. You idiots! I knew of the generational similarities between the e36 and e46, but just assumed that BMW, like any respectable entity, would've fixed the issue.

Soo...you can't swing a dead cat on e46 forums without hearing about a failure. And finally...to my question.

Is the issue the same on the e36 chassis as it is on e46? Cracks at the front right, rear left rear subframe mounting points before eventually they collapse/fail? If so, why are there any e36's on the road anymore? I remember reading/laughing about it back in my e30 pride days, but I can't find as much info on e36 failures as I can on e46 ones.

For those who aren't familiar with our dirty little non-secret - the beginning:

And the end:

There are aftermarket "solutions", and this thread may get there eventually, but I'm genuinely curious the nature of the issue first, and why the fuck BMW didn't fix it. I still don't know why e36/7 and e36/8 cars have their own issues, since they were more e30 than e36 back there.

  MM @ Camden Yards
Posted by: JPolen01 - 05-09-2013, 04:06 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (14)

This was talked about in another thread in the lounge so I figured I would make an event thread for it. Who is interested in catching an O's game in Baltimore? I'm heading into the city tonight which made me think of this. We could do a friday night game or a saturday day game. I'm available for either as I live only 10 minutes from the yard. People are more than welcome to crash here. I figure we will hit Pickles a couple hours before the game (may work better on a saturday) to have some beers and then head into the stadium.

Who's down?

  Brand Loyalty
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 05-09-2013, 09:38 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (79)

A thread on GRM got me started in thinking how brand loyal people were and I wanted to see what kind of diversity everyone has in their choices. Everyone knew me as the "Mitsubishi guy" till about 3 years ago, now I am the "BMW guy". Let's see how brand loyal everyone is in MM.

- Mitsubishi x2
- BMW x3
- GM x2
- Lexus x1
- Mazda x1 (if you consider the rx7 we have for chump car, jointy owned between Weymer, Paul Galleron and I)

And I came from a Jaguar (dad's side), and Mercedes family (mom's side)
