I was searching in google for garage space in H'burg and came across this site of a guy who races a mustang from h'burg. Here is his site and response to my email. Looks like we've got another contact in the area for race events!

Hi Chris,

I'm a JMU grad from 2000, and it's too bad I didn't have any decent
cars when I was in college, otherwise I might have been autocrossing
and road racing much earlier. heh. I'm vaguely aware of MM, Vinny
Capaccio who works up in ISAT and graduated the same time I did, knows
some of you guys.

I used to autocross a 2001 Mustang GT, but now I road race w/ a 1987
2.3L 4-cylinder Mustang--Vinny is my "crew chief". I haven't updated
the website about last season's results, but we finished all of our
races and placed in the top half of the points standings for our
class--ITB. Not bad for an outgunned oldass Mustang, we think. If
any of you are interested in hanging out or helping out at the track
this year, that would be cool. It's a small operation, so there's
hardly any work to do, but it's fun to have a place to hang out at,
carry a team radio, change a tire or two, and just be at the track.

I'm interested in autocrossing my 2003 SVT Focus, but I've had it on
the track at Summit Point once, and I might end up converting it over
to a road racing car if I buy one of the new Mustang Mach 1s this year
or next.

I'll check out your website and see if I can meet up with you guys
sometime. And I think it's awesome you have this group at JMU--if I
can help you guys out in some way, let me know. I have an 2001 F-150
and 18 foot trailer that might prove useful. Wink

Take care and it was nice meeting you.

Sincerely,

Beetle

The idea of a MM house has been brought up several times and I wanted to see what you all thought about it. This would be a chance for about 4-6 MMers to live in a house in town together and ideally would have a garage or pad to work on cars at (well probably a must). Each person would be responsible for their rent like any other apartment and would need to respect the others living situations.

Pros I can think of
-brings MM closer, and allows everyone a space to wrench at
-great place for bbq's, parties, socials
-Officer meeting and possible regular meeting location
-place for alumni to crash on weekends
-roommates could share tools/knowledge
-others?

Cons at the moment
-could result in diasgreements and conflicts in MM
-wrenching area (garage) could be abused/left a mess for roommates to clean
-its late to be looking for a place to live for next year
-might be another hassle for officers to organize
-might not be enough interest ever or during one year/semester and a non MM person would live there (not bad, just not the whole reason for the house)
-others?

The Moto GP boys are out testing their new bikes at Sepang in Malaysia. Don't know what's up with Rossi's 'Tide' helmet. Also, I HATE seeing Max Biaggi in Repsol Honda colors :x A season preview post is forthcoming.

ATTN: LEGISLATURE INTRODUCED TO BRING 95 dB law to VA!
Posted by: mpg9999 - 01-24-2005, 05:21 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (20)

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Legislation to Allow Reasonable Exhaust System Modifications

Introduced in Virginia

Legislation (H.B. 2895) that would allow VirginiaÔÇÖs vehicle hobbyists to install and use aftermarket modified exhaust systems that meet a 95-decibel limit under a fair and predictable test standard has been introduced in the Virginia State Legislature by Delegate William Fralin (Del_Fralin@house.state.va.us)

We Urge You to Contact Your Virginia State Legislators Immediately to Support H.B. 2895

┬À H.B. 2895 would remove subjective provisions in the law and force compliance with an objectively measured standard. Under the standard, exhaust noise could not exceed a sound reading of 95-decibels under a fair and predictable test (Society of Automotive Engineers J1169 - May 1998).

┬À H.B. 2895 would benefit consumers, the aftermarket industry and police officers who are charged with enforcing the law.

┬À H.B. 2895 would remedy the enforcement policy currently used by police officers in which nearly all exhaust systems not of a type installed as standard factory equipment are considered illegal - even where noise levels are not excessive or unusual. This policy leaves enthusiasts, exhaust system manufacturers and dealers without recourse.

┬À H.B. 2895 recognizes that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

┬À H.B. 2895 recognizes that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased durability and performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge, pass, travel uphill, etc.

┬À H.B. 2895 challenges the erroneous assumption that enthusiasts who equip their vehicles with modified exhaust systems are involved in illegal street racing.

Contact Delegate Fralin (Del_Fralin@house.state.va.us)to thank him. Contact your own state legislators in Richmond immediately by phone, fax or e-mail to request their support for this legislation. If you need assistance in determining who your legislators are and their contact information, please contact the Virginia LegislatureÔÇÖs General Information Line at (804) 698-1500. This information can also be obtained by calling the SEMA Washington, D.C. office at 202/783-6007, ext. 38 or via the Internet at http://www.semasan.com/ContactYourLegislator.aspx Please e-mail a copy of your letter to stevem@sema.org or fax to 202/783-6024 or mail to:

Please contact your legislators by snail mail. Currently its a House Bill (HB), so make sure you contact your delegate right now, and not your senator. This is going to be a tough bill to pass in VA so everyones support is needed.

 Insurance Suggestions
Posted by: PDenbigh - 01-24-2005, 02:08 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (13)

MM,

I'm interested in some suggestions and opinions regarding Insurance for the track. I'm not necessailry looking for collision insurance for the track, unless there really is a company that does this.. I'm more interested in liability insurance so that someone doesn't come back and say "you made me spin, crash, and now I'm paralyzed, that'll be 2.5million please."

I know we all sign wavers and whatnot, but this is a lawsuit happy society. Is there some sort of protection here? And don't say "don't punt people."

Thanks!
