Hey Guys,
Basically, I'm interested in remote start. How it works, how to possibly install it. Does it work on manual transmission cars? Does anybody have any experience with it? I just figured it'd be nice if I could start my car from my room. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

| Maybe you shouldn't be rebuilding a motor. |

Copied from E30tech.com. I think this is the dumbest mistake I've ever heard. Maybe you shouldn't be rebuilding a motor if you haven't been turning wrenches long enough to feel the difference between 80ft/lbs and 7.
http://www.e30tech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4950
OHHHH MANN!!! I feel like such and idiot. I just finished my rebuild, and added coolant and what not. The car started and ran fine the first time i fired it up. The next day I drove it around the block to see how it ran, and I noticed I was leaking coolant from some unknown location. I checked the hoses and what not and found nothing still. I then attempted to to bleed the coolant system. I noticed that it was taking a lot more coolant then i thought it should, then i noticed a small leak coming from the head gasket near the front of the engine but thought that that would be impossible and it had to be coming from one of the hoses above the location. I continued to fill the system with coolant, and when i thought I was done i shut off the car and let it sit for the rest of the ngiht. The next day (today) I checked the coolant level and it was next to completely empty.
I thought to myself what could the problem be. Was the head not torqued on all the way and the coolent was really coming from between the head and the block? I then rememberd that when I was torqing the head bolts, the wrench seemed to click very prematurly for 80 ft pounds. The wrench was brand new so I juss thought that this was normal since the wrench was so long that it juss multiplied my emense man power So I checked the wrenched manual and noticed a conversion table. One of the conversion was "12 inch pounds = 1 foot pound" Then it hit me. "CRAP THIS FREAKIN THINK IS TORQING IN INCH POUNDS!!!! AHHH I just about shat my pants. Everything I had torqued was 12 times less then I assumed. That means my head was only torqed on at 6 foot pounds! And the same for my connecting rods!!
Firiggin A!!!!!
Well now that yoiu know whats up, the reason Im posting this, is to ask if you think that the head gasket is still usable. Could the boiling hot water that was leaking out past the gasket and down the block damage the surface of the head gasket? I assume there is some water still trapped between the head and the gasket, would this affect anything after I torqe the head bolts down to the correct torqe?
I dont think there is gunna be any problems, but I just want a second opinion. The engine did seem to run fine even when the head wasnt torqued down correctly. I hope everythign will be fine. I also have to torqe my connecting rods again, what a bithc .
I aslo hope this wont affect the perfance of the head gasket since Im going to be turboing.
Well thats the end of my sad story thanks for reading.
Can you imagine?! And he's going to be able to put a turbo kit together? I think he's hunting for a darwin award.

A guy I know has for sale a 94' Del Sol. Its blue, 5-spd, 16V I-4. It had a VTEC DOHC but it was blown . He has no idea of the current miles on the engine but the car runs well. 150,000 on the body. It has a bodykit bumper on the front and it comes with the rest of the kit in a box. Mix-matched rims (15 on front 14 on back) same style, different size. Short ram intake and magnaflow exhaust are also installed. Its an alright looking car but his price seems high, you guys be the judge. $2,800 firm. He turned down a lady offering $2,500. I'll get a number if anyone is interested.

I know a bunch of you have talked about going down to Road Atlanta for the NASA SE event the weekend of March 19th and 20th. I probably won't have a car that's track worthy at that point (still waiting on Cobetto to get the replacement E30 so I can get his), but I'll be heading down as well to see Ryan and spend the weekend at the track. What I'm gauging interest in, would be in heading down a couple of days earlier and hitting up Savannah for St. Patrick's Day. Anyone from down south knows that Savannah has one of the craziest St Paddy's Day parties. I've never been myself, however I have lots of friends that have, and they say it's something you gotta do.
My intention is to drive down a couple days early for the event, spend the 17th (St. Patrick's Day) in Savannah and then head to the track after that.
Ryan's already expressed interest, but I'm curious how many of you that are heading down would be interested in extending your weekend out a bit and experiencing the insanity that is St. Patrick's Day in Savannah.

Specifically a 75 in a 55, 3:15am, on Rt. 66 just before the Rt. 123 exit. Registered on radar.
I've never had a ticket that I felt was silly before, I always figured that I deserved what I had gotten, but this time I think this one is pretty lame. I regularly see traffic do 75 there during the daytime (although I realize this isn't really a supportive argument) and at 3 in the morning I don't really see any big safety threat in it. Of course I can't really stand up in front of a judge and say that: I'd be guaranteed to receive a full fine. Repentence is the way to go, I've heard, but I wonder if the judge would question the validity of such a plea after the ticket I received last March in Fairfax.
Does anyone have any good firsthand tips, or know any good lawyers in the area that would charge me an arm and a leg? My insurance companies would really love to see this... I'm sure.

I'd like to be able to check a box and never see another post from Mike again. And in place of the Feersty/Mike post combo that has infiltrated almost every thread on the board, I'd instead like to see links to previous threads involving Evan, Maeng, or RJ defending their respective mothers.
That is all.

| DIY camera mount |

well i finally got off my lazy arse and built a home brew camera mount to utilize the digicam i got this christmas - it has a video function that's quite good so i want to take advantage of it. hopefully i can have fun with this at autocrosses, scenic drives, demolition derbys, etc.
when i was in homo depot i got:
- some long piece of what looks to be slotted angle iron, except its not iron....i guess its just some kind of mild metal
- bag o' 1/4" washers
- bag o' 1/4" nuts
- 2 1/4x4" bolts
- 1 1/4x1" bolt
- one real fat washer
- one real fat neoprene washer
GRAND TOTAL OF $12.65, WOO WOO
the frame is set up that the pass. headrest posts go through the holes in the angle iron, and the headrest also presses down on the mount to keep it steady. the long bolts are placed farther down the angle iron toward the middle of the car with nuts holding them in place. the long bolts ultimately support the small peice of angle iron that supports the camera itself. the fat washers are placed on the 1 inch bolt, which directly holds the camera.
took me all of 1 hour to make, and as a bonus i only had to drill one extra hole for one of the head rest posts to fit right. the only tools i needed were tin snips to cut the angle iron, a dremel to enlarge the holes slightly for the posts, and vice grips to tighten the nuts/bolts (which i loctite'd). the finished prodoct is light, adjustable, and sturdy.
PICS WILL BE POSTED TOMMOROW....and hopefully a short test-video too.
