M3 over a C5 - I'd agree with you there.
I havent been in a C6 yet, but I'm pretty sure it would be no contest for the vette.

Ok, I won't judge it til I drive it. I was REALLY impressed by the E46 though. It would have to be much more refined than the C5.
M3 won't attract cops like the C5, much less the C6. But the vette ensures the removal of underwear, for those who need a car to get the job done. Heh heh. I'd still take the M3 over the vette, but why not spend the extra couple Gzz for the 997 911?

as much as I hate to say it, the vette is prob the best sports car for the money. not that I don't like them, I just prefer other makes (pors....)

The majority of hot chicks would mistake the M3 for just another 3 series, the vette is unmistakable.
I saw the C6, I grinned, I sat in the C6 I smiled, I rode in the C6 I fell in love. The car handles better than the C5, a good bit better actually. Sharp 20-25mph U-turns are nothing, there is NO body roll. We didn't really get to experience the horsepower because it wasn't broken in yet, but by the end of the ride I was trying to convince my mom to trade the C5 on it.
p.s. I still hate the headlights.

Cut that hideous clay color and give it a nice light/dark grey combo or some grey/black and then it might look alright, although I still don't think I'd like it. Best part about the E46 M3 isn't visible unless the hood is up. IMO, the rest is shit and I'd take an E36 any day over it. E46's saving grace is that it is faster.
I would buy a Z06 before an M3 if we're talkin about street and track. The M3 has gotten too fat and heavy. Maybe the next gen will be lighter.
As for Top Gear, I thought that review was just plain stupid. Yeah they're leaf springs, but the car handles find so why criticize. A Z06 will blow the goddamned doors off anything for under $100k except a Viper or maybe a GT3. TG was just determined not to like because its American and it takes a different approach than the Italians and Germans.
Don't get me wrong, GM could afford to spend a few more dollars to improve the interior but shit its the best sportscar in the world on value. The only things that come close are the Elise and the Evo/STi (which are sports sedans not sports cars btw).

and a bit of tech about the leaf springs: they allow for the rear suspension to be more compact, and hence the rear of the car is much more hunkered over the rear wheels and the cG lowered.
A spring is a spring, so there is no inherent weakness in the functionality or performance. The drawbacks of a leafspring is that they are harder to customize ride height and spring rates. 2 drawbacks that the corvette aftermarket has more than taken care of.

Some people on Pistonheads forum were there and apparently the drag race was filmed numerous times, and also with a C6 that the crew had already ruined the clutch, damaged the bodywork and stripped the tyres of tread Eek
It still put in an excellent lap time on their track, beating the 350C, the new Exige, the 911 GT3 and only narrowly missing out on the Evo FQ330 and Gallardos times. They even had to admit that the chassis was excellent.
