The car is slightly modified to Cobb Stage 2 specifications. This includes changing the stock up-pipe (from the engine to the turbo) and the stock downpipe (from the turbo to the exhaust). It also includes their Accessport computer modifications. The result of all of this is that the horsepower is bumped up from 227 HP stock to 285 HP.

Heh, 285hp is being EXTREMELY generous on the Cobb OTS Stage 2 tune. My old 2004 WRX only put down a whopping 199whp with their stage 2 setup. 285 at the crank? Hardly.

There's a lot of drivetrain loss with AWD - and if the dyno reads generally low (every dyno is different), then I dont see a problem with the numbers - the dyno is just a tool anyways.

I didn't dyno it on the same dyno stock, but most stock WRXs were putting down around 170 on that dyno.
Cobb's off the shelf maps run too rich, and 199 on that dyno is pretty typical from what they were telling me. I don't know how they got 285 crank out of an off the shelf map... maybe with a really generous dyno and a lot of smoothing 
Good example of an overinflated marketing tool.

The car is 230hp stock, correct? At 285hp, given same drivetrain losses/dyno variation, should be 210 at the wheels.
Not really very far off.

The '04 was 227hp. Stage 2 should be closer to 220-225 at the wheels, but then we're just counting beans. That's what most of the ProTuned guys are getting. A loss of 86 hp from the drivetrain is a lot at that power level, which is why I still contend that Cobb's OTS maps are closer to 265-270hp.

Anyway I'm not trying to shit up his thread, I'm sure he'll sell it quick... but if I was him I'd unmarry the Accessport and put the exhaust back to stock and sell them separately. He'll get the same money for his WRX and pocket another $1200 or so from the mods.

Which is why the dyno is just a tuning tool  As power goes up, drivetrain losses go up in proportion

seems like a fair price for a garaged, adult owned, lightly modded '04. i bet the used market has alot of WRX's up there, though.

wuuuutt?? I would think with 227 crank theyd put down more than that, 165-170 is what 2nd gen gsxs do stock with "crank" 210 horsepower. I think subaru might have been a little generous with the horsepower like bmw with the m3.
