Thinking of a new car...

OK, to kill this discussion and get this back on track, lets just assume that whatever car I get I will dump the extra $200 and get an oil cooler. Back onto what would be a good car...

said it once and i'll say it again...

hatch or integra

reliable, can pack tons of shit in them, parts are uberabundant and cheap, get 30+mpg to the track, a few of us here know a ton about them...

downside? fwd.

I say SR swap for the 240. You've already got experience with it, you already have some stuff done to it, and its a good, cheap, relatively light chassis to start with.

Starting a new project is going to cost more money and time. Especially if you have to spend time sorting things out.

Look at Blair, he already did a SR swap and got it done relatively quick so you even have someone you know as a resource.

...

If you're still a glutton for punishment you could always put a LS1 in there.

aside from a honda, yeah 240 with an sr swap. pretty reliable, tons of parts out there, cheap, rwd, rather light, BOOST, but nowhere to race.

Looks like there is a lot of support for the turbo 240, followed by the DSM crowd. Gonna be a tough decision...
