yea i want help planning out the garage...thats why I started this thread. Looking at nice work benches storage and whatnot too. Just dont have much time to do the research.

Think about how you're going to use it also. Like the garage above with the Porsche is pretty and good for basic maintenance but it lacks the open space to say.. wheel an engine hoist around.

Also look into the modular shelving in Lowes/Home Depot so you can adjust the shelf size to reduce wasted space.(Not the Closet Maid stuff, the heavier duty stuff) It isn't pretty as it leaves things exposed but having an area with this type of shelving can help keep the floor clear of odd shaped and sized objects.
Can't find it right now, but basically you screw a couple rails to the wall that have a slots for the brackets to go in.

I might need to build that workbench, very handy to have something that can be moved around.

for some reason im just not sold on motorfloor. Im not sure it can handle the abuse of jack stand and jacks and working on cars. From what I read it doesnt seem to. Evan, do you work on cars alot or plan to with that flooring?

After doing a bit of research of garagejournal, and reading up on epoxy-coat they come out a bit cheaper than U-Coat it, and also their product is 100% epoxy based, not some water based (Lowes/HD brand crap)..

But really the prep is key, not sure about new concrete that has been laid down - but I wish I rented a diamond grinder and sander the floor instead of acid etching. My floor has held up pretty good during my motor swap (coolant, oil, etc) - does need a cleaning, so im pretty curios to see what it looks like. Also - i didn't really prep for painting as well as I wanted too..

Good point, many coatings require a a certain amount of time (6 months?) for the concrete to cure before putting the coating down.

so im thinking motofloor ( those plastic tiles) up on the front 15ish feet of the garage where the benches and tool boxes will be. and floor epoxy coating on the front 20 feet where cars will be parked and worked on. Im just not confident that the plastic flooring will hold up to seriously working on cars. what do you guys think?

IMO, mix and match won't look that good. Find the best solution for both and do it throughout.

Does motofloor offer any sort of warranty?

Ive never heard of motofloor not holding up but they are in fact plastic so its probably possible. I do plan on putting jacks and jackstands on mine, and my jackstands have a flat bottom base.

if you have the time, real glue down tiles ("cvt" iirc) are extremely durable and also the cheapest

I built one of these today - the design works well, would definitely build one this way again. The only thing I did different was use a nail gun to hold the wood together while the glue was setting up. It was available, and power tools are fun :lol:
