Re: Garage floor coatings. - JustinG - 04-10-2010

so ya bought a house?

Re: Garage floor coatings. - Evan - 04-10-2010

i did lots of research on garage floor coatings. which is why I bought racedeck.

garagejournal.com has all you ever wanted to know.

Re: Garage floor coatings. - Dave - 04-10-2010

I coated my garage floor with whatever was at Lowe's (Quikrete?). Did it by the book once the concrete had cured and 6 months later there's places where it's peeling up and flaking. I'm not unhappy considering what I paid, but I wish I had put it on thicker.

Re: Garage floor coatings. - BLAIR - 04-11-2010

My main concern is how it will hold up. Cause I know there will be lots of work going down in the garage and I want it to withstand jacks, jackstands, dropped heavy parts etc etc. Thanks evan for the link. Ill take a look at that.

Re: Garage floor coatings. - JustinG - 04-11-2010

i really want to refinish my garage floor, since its so rough/unlevel in places. Found some "auto leveling" concrete your supposed to be able to use on preexisting concrete, but its pricey....

Re: Garage floor coatings. - BLAIR - 04-12-2010

evan. how does racedeck hold up to working on cars like using jacks and jackstands and working on heavy metal parts on floor?

Re: Garage floor coatings. - Gs dewd - 04-12-2010

Have you looked into that U-coat it shit? It's supposed to be some good stuff. You can even get it with flakes and stuff in it.

I just got mine so I havent installed it yet, but everything I have read says it holds up fine with jacks and jackstands.
I actually bought MotoFloor which is the same as Racedeck with different branding (made by snaplock).
Bigfloors.com is the retail arm of Snaplock, the parent company of RaceDeck, MotoFloor, GarageDeck, etc and has the best prices I have found. they have motofloor for about $2 / sq ft.

another option I looked at was garage mats

cheaper than racedeck, but i had heard of problems with wrinkles and bunching in the summer when it expands.

just like Carrol Shelby uses Zmax... :vomit: Tongue
seriously though i do remember reading that stuff is decent. i didnt pay much attention to the coatings after seeing how unreliable they can be, but garagejournal has all the info on whats good and whats not it if you want to go that route.

They did a neighbor's garage, floor and cabinets. Its probably expensive, but may be worth the $$ up front to have professionals prep and coat the floor to avoid problems later? Unless its new concrete.

Re: Garage floor coatings. - BLAIR - 04-12-2010

the garage is brand new, so no issues with old concrete. and 35x30 to make it even better

Re: Garage floor coatings. - Dave - 04-13-2010

manassas

Re: Garage floor coatings. - G.Irish - 04-13-2010

Blair I think you are now required to start a project garage thread.

Re: Garage floor coatings. - BLAIR - 04-13-2010

thats the plan. I want to make the garage bad ass. Its huge and drywalled. I want to do nice lighting and cabinets and a work bench etc etc. Already got plenty bad ass cars for it with my roomate and I.

Here is a sneak peak. Ill post more once closing is all done and its 100 percent mine.

Re: Garage floor coatings. - xvxax - 04-14-2010

Re: Garage floor coatings. - Steve85 - 04-14-2010

I've been using a special mix of coolant, oil, diff fluid and kitty litter. Water beads on it now...

Congrats on the house!
