Driving an AWD car is no different than a FWD or RWD. The line is about the same, you still have 4 contact patches and a traction circle and weight transfer to manage.

The on track behavior that you're describing applies to any car and pretty typical of how a FWD car operates - you're understeering, and then when you lift off the gas all the weight transfers to the front and away from the rear - leaving the rear with no grip - and it oversteers. No load on the tire = no grip.

Either way, Dave is a good driver on track and he'd have no problem with FWD/AWD.
