Some fun facts for you on that automatic trans, since I'm bored at work:
It's a General Motors design that was manufactured in France, originally for Opel and brought to America for the Chevette in teh 1970s. And now it's in your German car. :thumbup: The trans was originally a three-speed, but GM added an overdrive and some electronics to it in the post-Chevette years to get your fourth gear. It's the same trans as an automatic E34 525i, Cadillac Catera and several Isuzu trucks.
They're pretty reliable transmissions, as long as you check the fluid level and service it every 30k or so. My buddy has a 95 525iA (same trans) with about 210k on the odometer, no issues.
