The hard drive developed an intermittent clicking a few weeks ago so my wife called support. They told her to ship it back and they'd look at it. Of course it wasn't clicking for the few days prior to shipping it back, so I expected them to say there was nothing wrong with it. We heard back from Gateway and they replaced the hard drive, wifi card and updated the BIOS free of charge. The turnaround time from when they received to when it showed back up (scheduled) was 8 calendar days. Color me impressed.
Update:
Ever since they sent it back, the computer won't wake up from Sleep or Hibernate. They had me do a factory restore on it and that did not fix the problem. I suspect this is related to them updating the BIOS during the last service. We have to send it back AGAIN and wanted us to pay for shipping. I bitched and they gave is a FedEx account number to use. At this point, I'm 50/50 on the whole experience. It's a cool little machine, but there are obviously some fairly questionable things to consider.
Update:
Came back exactly the way it left us. Called India and got escalated to Tier 2 support in the US. Explained the problem, was put on hold and when the guy came back told me they have heard of a few fixes on microsoft.com and if that didnt work, I could always set it to never sleep or hibernate. I laughed at him and told him it was not my problem. I asked for a replacement and was told there was no policy to allow for that - repair only. He said I could send it back again and he would make sure a "Level 2 Tech" would look into it. I told him this was the last step before credit card dispute. He didnt seem to care.
Never had to go through this with a Dell.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
