Every time I see that picture I get interested in what happened. I did some research and came up with a maritime shipping disasters page run by some folks in cargo law:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.cargolaw.com/2007nightmare_ital.florida.html">http://www.cargolaw.com/2007nightmare_ital.florida.html</a><!-- m -->
(you have to scroll way down)
They have links to TONS of other disasters that are pretty damn amusing.
*edit* the containers that look like they should be in the ocean aren't because they are "lashed" together. I assume this is a special cargo form of lashing, and not a fancy version of what I've done with ropes and sticks. They're unsure of whether the containers were lost due to improper loading/securing or foul weather, or both. The ship encountered surge of up to 17,6 meters while at sea. The disaster that Adam referred to is also on the page - I'm having a hard time re-locating it.
This one also makes fail posts frequently:

When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.
