Most people root for what those around them are rooting for and thats the home team demographic reasons. I grew up with a Dad who liked the Cowboys and a grandfather who liked the Flyers so it's who I learned to root for.
I'm the same way. My parents are from chicago but moved out here a little before I was born, and thus for every sport my dad likes (baseball, football, basketball) I'm a diehard chicago fan. I avidly root for the redskins to lose :wink: pretty much because of him.
However seeing as he never watches hockey I just kinda latched on to the caps in highschool as a good friend of mine was a diehard fan.
