Re: So need some advice - Kaan - 09-18-2009 Its an MD bike... they paint their stuff for fun. But you still need to really check it out. Re: So need some advice - rezarxt - 09-21-2009 Just an update. I got my license on sunday. I went and checked out an F4i in frederick and it seemed pretty beat on so I passed on it. Going to look at a 2004 SV650S tomorrow in staunton. Hopefully this is in a little better shape. http://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/mcy/1382918045.html Re: So need some advice - flintster55 - 09-21-2009 Nice man. SVs are really nice. What year did they go to FI? Re: So need some advice - CaptainHenreh - 09-22-2009 flintster55 Wrote:Nice man. SVs are really nice. What year did they go to FI? 2003. Re: So need some advice - Kaan - 09-22-2009 Thats a great riding first bike. Just FYI, if your buddies are like "lets go do wheelies".... those bikes werent ment to do that. They oil starve the front cylinder... bad things happen. Keep it on two wheels and enjoy the ride. Re: So need some advice - CaptainHenreh - 09-22-2009 Kaan Wrote:Thats a great riding first bike. You know Kaan, you're the only person I ever heard say this, so I did a little research. The whole "front cylinder" thing doesn't make sense. If the pickup has oil, the whole oil circuit has oil. I mean yeah, when it's in the air the front cylinder is "straight up", but even if the bike is level the oil is still overcoming gravity. Digging on the internets a little, apparently if your oil level is low in a first gen SV650, you might oil starve during a wheelie because of the pickup location, which was redesigned for the fuelie bikes in '03. I see plenty of stunters choosing SV's, and if there were any kind of serious risk to damage when doing a wheelie, nobody would use them for stunting, ever. But more to the point, if your buddies are like "Lets go do wheelies" find new buddies. Re: So need some advice - rezarxt - 09-22-2009 Looks like someone beat me to it. Hes having someone come tonight at 4:30 to look at it so we'll see. If he doesnt buy it Im going to go check it out and probably make an offer. Keep it on two wheels and enjoy the ride. one of the biggest street fighter builders in the area does a lot of SV work... like A LOT... and the chopper guys i know usually have an SV sport bike... and talking with the owner of RnR with all the repairs they have to do... they say the problem isnt solved. there are still a lot of oil starved front cylinders. I would bet there's more to the motor changes than just a different bore/stroke.Kaan Wrote:Thats a great riding first bike. Oil starving used to be a fairly well known thing for non-FI SV. And if you brake hard enough you fuel starve (if you're a srsly badass moto racer). Re: So need some advice - flintster55 - 10-01-2009 blue ridge powersports has stuff but its a little pricey. look on craigslist if you want to look at used stuff And yea great starter bike. One of my good buddies has one and he loves it. Plenty of room to grow into it Re: So need some advice - DavidM - 10-01-2009 Nice pick up man! A few of us are thinking about doing a little bike get together tomorrow, late afternoon. DavidL is learning to ride on my GS and Adam has promised me a test ride on the CBR. If you're interested you should come join us. Re: So need some advice - HAULN-SS - 10-01-2009 very nice Re: So need some advice - .RJ - 10-01-2009 Gear = newenough.com Great prices, easy return policy if something doesnt fit. Re: So need some advice - flintster55 - 10-02-2009 I actually got my helmet and jacket off of ebay but I had already tried both on in a store so I knew exactly what size to get. You can do that and then order online to get the best prices if you aren't sure exactly what size you want, which brand fits you the best, etc. Re: So need some advice - rezarxt - 10-02-2009 DavidM Wrote:Nice pick up man! I would love to but I have national guard training all this weekend Monday or Tuesday Im going to go gear hunting to see what fits and order it online like adam suggested.
Re: So need some advice - DavidM - 10-02-2009 Sounds like a plan. When David gets his training wheels off maybe we can all do a leisurely ride sometime. |
