- G.Irish - 01-25-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:How many25+ year old hondas and toyotas do you see on the road in this country and others? What does that have to do with today? Sure, there are a lot of collectible cars from the big three from pretty much every decade before 1980 but that is not helping them at all today where both Ford and GM lost 100's of millions of dollars last year ($1.6 billion for Ford IIRC). - .RJ - 01-25-2006 REED Wrote:have honda and toyota even been here for 25+ years Of course they have. - HAULN-SS - 01-25-2006 Well I'm not even talking about collectible cars - I'm just talking about cars that have lasted decades. You're hard pressed to even FIND an import before 1985 or so - much less one in good condition. You can go down the street anywhere and in 5 minutes see a lot of cars older than that, that are still going just fine. - .RJ - 01-25-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:You're hard pressed to even FIND an import before 1985 or so - much less one in good condition. You'd be hard pressed to find ANY car older than 1985 by walking down the street. Doesnt matter import or domestic, most 20 year old cars have been wrecked, junked, etc and are just not on the road. - HAULN-SS - 01-25-2006 well, I just walked outside for about 15 seconds and just scanned the parking lot, all the cars were <15 years old, however there were 2 1985ish Plymouth K-cars of some sort out there...no old imports - Dragon - 01-25-2006 .RJ Wrote:Not to mention there's not really a market for restoring the older hondas/toyotas. The cars were practical and economic for their time, but for the cost of restoring them you mind as well get an updated version that is better. IMO there's very few newer domestic cars that have the appeal of their older bretheren. Give me a classic stang anyday over the new ones (although this latest model is rather nice).HAULN-SS Wrote:You're hard pressed to even FIND an import before 1985 or so - much less one in good condition. So lets see if we can come up with a more objective test. Let's use money. Let's pretend that there's three mutual funds that you will begin to invest in. This proceeds of this mutual fund will not only be for your kid's education but more importantly, your wife says this is the only source of funds you can draw from for your car buying, maintenance and performance needs including racing fees. The three mutual funds only invest in the auto sector. One focuses/invests solely in Jap cars, the second solely US cars, with the lastly investing only in German cars (VW/AUDI, BMW, MB). Which would you invest your hard earned dough in? - .RJ - 01-25-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:well, I just walked outside for about 15 seconds and just scanned the parking lot, all the cars were <15 years old, however there were 2 1985ish Plymouth K-cars of some sort out there...no old imports I can look out side my parking lot and I dont see any cars older than 8 years old, and 90% of them are imports. Whats your point? - BLINGMW - 01-25-2006 .RJ Wrote:You'd be hard pressed to find ANY car older than 1985 by walking down the street. The financial performance of a company is not by any means directly related to the quality of its products, let alone reliability. - REED - 01-25-2006 .RJ Wrote:REED Wrote:have honda and toyota even been here for 25+ years yeah i didnt really think that 25 years ago it was only 1981, i still like to think that no matter how old i get 25 years ago = 1970's - Sijray21 - 01-25-2006 REED Wrote:i still like to think that no matter how old i get 25 years ago = 1970's haha, seriously - i feel the same way took me a little while to realize that my VW is older than most students at JMU - Jeff - 01-25-2006 Wow...how did a thread about Hemi powered bling turn into this? I am holding myself back...there will be an essay posted tonight. - G.Irish - 01-25-2006 Andy Wrote:The three mutual funds only invest in the auto sector. One focuses/invests solely in Jap cars, the second solely US cars, I don't see what the point of this would be. To denigrate American cars? If you don't like them, fine. But there's no point in dragging this out to bash what the big 3 are doing. There are fans of just about every major brand on here, and I don't think there's anything to be gained from trashing anyone's brand on here for no reason. The whole point of this community is that we all enjoy cars and hopefully through this mutual enjoyment we can all come to appreciate the good things the automotive world offers rather than have a penis swinging contest over who's brand(s) is better. There is nothing to be gained from pissing on what other people like. - Jeff - 01-25-2006 I do see much if any Import hate here. I didn't even begin to challenge the long held belief that imports are better. I outta raise some shit next time someone posts a "I want X import car" thread. I bet I would get a total of 0 supporters. Domestic hate is alive in this club. I think its poor judgement to hate on anyone's brand...not a good call. - Andy - 01-25-2006 I keep insisting that I don't hate domestics but you guys read whatever you want into it. - CaptainHenreh - 01-25-2006 Andy Wrote:I keep insisting that I don't hate domestics but you guys read whatever you want into it. C'mon man, you're married -- You should be used to someone latching onto one miniscule comment and running with it. - Andy - 01-25-2006 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Andy Wrote:I keep insisting that I don't hate domestics but you guys read whatever you want into it. - G.Irish - 01-25-2006 Andy Wrote:I keep insisting that I don't hate domestics but you guys read whatever you want into it. You might not hate them but you sure were hating on them. Nobody comes on here calling the brands you like crap. - Andy - 01-25-2006 G.Irish Wrote:Andy Wrote:I keep insisting that I don't hate domestics but you guys read whatever you want into it. It's called an opinion and I argued facts. If I editorialized, it was because I didn't think anyone actually gave a shit. Next time, I'll prepare a proper thesis. Last I checked, this is a car club forum where everyone spouts off about anything and everything and nothing was taken personnally. |
