- G.Irish - 11-02-2004 Notice I quoted Bush directly and no one from the Bush Administration nor elsewhere will deny that intel personnel and special forces units were pulled from the hunt for Bin Laden to go to Iraq. Maybe the reasoning is that Bin Laden is no longer a threat but I don't think anyone would agree with that assessment. Kerry did in fact try on more than one occasion to cut intelligence budgets. I sincerely hope he doesn't blindly try to do the same in the future if he wins tonight. The funny thing about budget cuts (especially on things like defense and intelligence) is that even if one is trying to trim pork or waste you will still be demonized. The National Recon Office mentioned specifically by Kerry was caught hoarding money out of their secret budget and did not notify the CIA or Congress of their surplus (to the tune of 1 to 1.7 billion according to articles I looked up). This kind of thing happens a lot in the government due to the way budget funds are allocated but this incidentally leads to a lot of waste. Anyone who worked at the Medialab on campus knows exactly what I'm talking about. I'd like to read more on what was specifically in Kerry's budget cut bills. I think he is naive/foolish about some things (nuclear deterrence for example) but I'd like to see what he was specifically trying to cut. Bush gets criticized much the same way for budget cuts without regard for what it is exactly that he's cutting. I think moreover many people (Bush Sr, Kerry, and Clinton especially) had a mistaken idea that after the Cold War we would have less to worry about when that couldn't be further from the truth. That doesn't necessarily mean we need to spend more money, but it means we will have to structure our armed forces and possibly our intelligence operations differently. We are already have a next generation plan in place for the military at least, I just hope we won't get caught with our pants down between now and then. - Maengelito - 11-02-2004 G.Irish Wrote:I just hope we won't get caught with our pants down between now and then. wait, are we still talkin politics? - Kaan - 11-03-2004 G was talking bill clinton there Maeng! - Evan - 11-03-2004 Its fun to watch the liberal media sources wet themselves after the masses didnt vote the way the media told them to. I must admit, I have been very surprised with the outcome of the election thus far - Mike - 11-03-2004 as have i, bush had pretty surprising support. i find it funny that they still haven't decided OH even though bush is up by 150k just say he won already!
- Evan - 11-03-2004 yeah, the Ohio Governor just said on the news that it is a statistical impossibility that even with the absentee and provisional ballots for the lead to be overcome. in other news, the Dow is up 125 and Nasdaq +20 already this morning. - Mike - 11-03-2004 i wonder if jack really will leave the country like he said he would... if i lose my job i might think about it

You'd probably make over $75k if not over $100k. Downside? Getting beheaded. - Mike - 11-03-2004 i think i'd forego 25-50k to not risk my head. - Kaan - 11-03-2004 I'm turkish man... i'll blend in! i'll take it like a man... where can i get a job that i can carry a gun and be over there... cause it'll be the gun fight that gets me killed! - JohnC - 11-03-2004 G.Irish Wrote:Kaan Wrote:i think i need a nice job in iraq They'd have to find his neck first... - Dragon - 11-03-2004 I dunno man, you're already short enough as it is, I don't think you can risk it. - Evan - 11-03-2004 G.Irish Wrote:and all tax-free tooKaan Wrote:i think i need a nice job in iraq some of my coworkers are going...... I asked them if any unescorted Humvee rides were in the plan. they chaged the subject :? - Maengelito - 11-03-2004 contractors make bank over there, but yeah, the risk sucks. i've seen one too many of those beheading videos which are some of the most horrible things ever. if for some reason i were in that situation, as soon as i heard them chant "allah ackbar" i'd get up, go nuts and start fuckin with the guy holding the rpg in the background... i mean, whats he gonna do... - Evan - 11-03-2004 id rather them kill me trying to escape than make a spectacle of me on tv. of course those sick fucks probably keep the prisoners complacent by telling them they will let them go - Dragon - 11-03-2004 True but after the first one or two no-one's gonna believe that shit anymore. Fuck sitting around waiting to get my head sawed off they can kill my ass as I fight back. |
