  Car Show banner
Posted by: Chris - 02-22-2005, 05:41 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (9)

just to let everyone know, I signed us up for the large banner on the hill in the commons near D Hall for the week before the car show.

Starting on Tuesday April 19th we'll have it up- so keep an eye out.

Its only $20 for the large outdoor banner through events and conf. and we'll get Scotty to design it!

Would you guys like to see a car show only banner (ex- "Madison Motorshow this Saturday" with location or a general MM banner we can use elsewhere)? We've got a smaller banner for general use, but we can always use another.

WTB: A Shitty Old Truck !
Posted by: WRXtranceformed - 02-22-2005, 05:21 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (94)

As the title states, I'm now in the market for a commuter / work truck that I can use on construction sites. My new job will be fronting me $305 / month as a truck allowance, so I've got some room to work with.

Don't really care about mileage as long as it runs. $2000-$8000 max. 4WD would own but is not necessary. Prefer Jap trucks, Toyota, Nissan, etc... I'm just not willing to drop any money on a shitty old Ford or Dodge. I guess I'd consider a Chevy.

Anyone know someone who has a truck for sale ? Or has anyone seen some decent trucks around at local H-Burg dealerships ?

Best I've found so far is:
'00 Nissan X-Cab Frontier 4 cylinder, Red, 2WD, M/T, 59,000 miles for $7950 + 30 day warranty (engine, tranny, powertrain). This one is local, I like giving local ppl the business. Price could be talked down for sure, but it seems like a decent buy.

'95 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, M/T, 115,000 miles, $4900

'94 Toyota Pickup, 2WD, M/T, 128,816 miles, $2,000ish I think.

Need opinions in making life easier
Posted by: Dave - 02-22-2005, 01:40 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (16)

Okay, so let's lay it out in the open. I take wheels on and off my car more time in a year than most "normal" people do for the lifetime of thier ownership of a car. Putting the wheels on and threading the lug nuts on the 240 is a royal PITA and I'm getting tired of it. So, I've come up with a couple of options and want to see if you can come up with something different and get some feedback.

Fact 1: Toyota wheel stud has a different head pattern than the Nissan head
Fact 2: Thread pitch of the Toyota and Nissan studs are not the same

Option 1: order some longer wheel studs of the same thread pitch and head and use my current lug nut. Longer studs makes it super easy to put the wheel on and start threading the lug nut, and should also be pretty readily available.

Option 2: I can get a set of stock mkIII lug nuts for < $10. These are about 3x as long as a normal lug nut, so they should thread pretty easily. Get a set of wheel studs with the Nissan head and the thread pitch of the supra lug nut.

I'm leaning toward option 1, but I wanted to see if anybody could come up with something more creative or more effective, or find a reason not to do this.

End of yearlong drama... back to 9psi
Posted by: JackoliciousLegs - 02-22-2005, 12:34 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (9)

I recently decided that it'd be a HUGE hassle to port the wastegate on my daily driver, so it was not feasible with the open exhaust (or high flow cats) to set the boost above 5.5psi for fear of creeping to certain doom.

Side note to keep in mind: I had just fixed my A/F issues.
Side note 2: When I bought the car, it wasn't boosting properly.

I was hesitant to set the car back to the way I got it because last night I reattached the stock EBC (Electronic Boost Controller for those nonboosted folk) and it wouldn't work. It was still set at 5.5psi... not the 8.6784952 that it should be set at.

Well, today I had Murph toss on my old cats and fix the EGR pipe for a whopping $40. Then I bought a new 02 sensor.

Side note 3: My A/F gauge has never read below 14:1A/F even after I had it on petes wideband reading 10.2:!.
Side note 4: Turbo A/F ratios should be between 10 and 12.5...

Took it for a test drive, and WHAMO... 9psi slams hard and holds til redline. A/F gauge showing 10.5-11:1 A/F... MY PILE WORKS!!!!

For the first time EVER... I am at full boost... reading correct readings... with proper A/F ratios.

BWHAHAHAHAHA!! My first HPDE is right around the corner!!!

Ah, at last, its alive and kicking.. and turning, and stopping!

Thanks to Sean for the countless hours tweaking and turning, bending brake lines and swapping Master Cylindars.

Thanks to Dave who tonight helped get the brakes bled properly and got to experience the first ride with the newly found stopping and turning power.

If only I'd been three-four days sooner Undecided. O well, it'll be around for the sceanic drive! And whatever the next event is!

Some details can be found here.

And in later news, Chad blew his engine. Role reversal!
