  How loud are bikes?
Posted by: Evan - 06-19-2006, 11:05 AM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (7)

So as I was leaving VIR a squid on a mid-90s FZR (? - round headlights)
did a full throttle blast by me going the other way. It was ear-peircingly loud. Ive been on track with some LOUD racecars, as well as watched pro races, and never heard anything this loud. Is this typical for most bikes? Granted I was pretty close to him when he flew by and I probably got the worst of the sound, but damn my ear hurts just thinking about it.

Review: Plantation Valley Kart track @ VIR
Posted by: Evan - 06-19-2006, 10:44 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (8)

This weekend I headed down to VIR to instruct in a MazdaDrivers HPDE running the Grand East VIR configuration. (btw--MazdaDrivers runs great events for anyone looking to pick up some more track time)

Since recently the kart track started having arrive and drive racing on the weekends (and open until 8!) Chris Snobeck and I decided to head over to check it out after the event was over for the day.
Cost was only $30 for 30 minutes of kart racing (actually more like 35) and the karts felt pretty quick, with very sticky tires.

To cut to the chase, the track is FANTASTIC. Its very long for a kart track, there is a great variety of high speed, low speed, esses, etc. Lots of passing zones.
The karts felt very good. Probably the same kinds of karts that the indoor tracks use but on a larger track they really feel more at home. The tires are sticky, but you can still slide them around just a bit without scrubbing off speed too much.
My only complaint is that Chris' and my kart were not evenly matched. His had some mad vteck and motored by me very easily on the straight of every lap. I didnt mind too much because I outbraked him and caught right back up every lap Big Grin
Chris and I raced for the entire 30 minutes swapping spots twice a lap or so! Chris' dad was there taking pics so Ill post em up when he sends them to me. It made me wish I had a helmet cam, it would have been more exciting to watch than the whole 24hr of Lemans put together!Definately the best part of my weekend, and the mostest funnest karting experience Ive had. I know its a bit like comparing oranges and tangerines, but its a whole new/better experience from indoor karting.

  Music while riding your bike?
Posted by: WRXtranceformed - 06-18-2006, 09:21 PM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (71)

I don't know why I was thinking about this today, but I was wondering if people listen to music while riding their bikes. I'd imagine it would be pretty sweet to listen to your favorite songs while riding, but I'd also imagine that it would be incredibly dangerous to hinder your senses in any way while riding.

Do people like listen to IPods and such while riding, or is it just considered way too dangerous? Can you get bikes with stereos in them, with like speakers facing your helmet or something? haha ... I thought that the bigger cruiser bikes had stuff like that, but I'm not sure.

  Mostly just a curiosity
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 06-18-2006, 05:06 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (4)

I have recently acquired a free-turning..although not running(havent tried to start it)..1937 Buick Straight-8. I was just wondering if any of you guys may have some friends or relatives or anybody that messes with REALLY old cars might bounce it off them and see what it might be worth. Figured it's a long shot, but I couldnt even find one on ebay.
