| Street Tires vs. Hoosiers... |

So,
I got my Hoosiers fitted this weekend. (Hoosier daddy!?) I'm going from worn-out Fuzion's to Grand Am Hoosiers with about 20 laps on them.
Any tips on race tires? I've never driven on "real" tires like this. I've heard they grip...grip...grip...gone, with no in-between. Turn in, mid corner, power on throttle, etc.
What can you guys remember from way-back-when?

The Bike
We ended up with a Sportster 1200, which had plenty of power for 2 up riding. The torque was nice and low and being accustomed to a twin I never felt like I was missing out on winding it out just to have some fun. I found that the seating position was much more comfortable than any sportbike I've ever been on but the seat got uncomfortable on the 6 hour day trip, like pretty much anything that's not a Corbin. My portly ass plus my buck-10 wife was more than the rear shock could handle on some of the bumpier roads. We bottomed out a few times, which I'm sure didn't add to the comfort level of the day.
Amusingly enough the guy that "checked out" the bike before we left said such a small bike would be uncomfortable for two people. I told him that it would be a vacation compared to a day trip on a sportbike. His response to that was "oh this is gonna be a lot more than what you're used to, it's fully loaded." Every time we stopped there were Harley people just hanging around and they'd end up asking us about the bike and whatnot. I figured they were being friendly until I let it slip a few times that I owned a sportbike. I was surprised that the converstaion really almost ended at that point, as if I was invading their world. I honestly didn't want to believe it but the second or third time it happened I was forced to see the reality of it. I just laughed and realized that every misconception I thought I had about Harley people is in fact true.
I didn't like that the range was a mere 100 miles, but I guess that's expected with a smaller tank. No windshield and no full face helmet meant I was eating bugs at 70mph for the highway section. I also managed to get some sunburn on my face because of the open helmet, I don't know why those guys wear them. The bonus part of the trip, however, was that they route map they gave us actually had "Red Light Entertainment" marked on it. Evidently they get some characters on the rentals looking for a good time.
The Trip
We left Vegas in the morning and hit Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam on a ~200(?) mile loop. The high for the day was 75┬░, the wind was cool and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I know the whole humidity thing is cliche but 75┬░ there is an assload better than 75┬░ on the east coast. At some points it was actually a bit chilly at higher speeds in the higher elevations.
There was a decent portion of the trip that we were the only people for miles and the roads were amazingly well paved. There was one section that was somewhat bumpy any normal bike wouldn't have had a problem. We actually had a few miles of dirt because the road wasn't finished (!?) but we had no problems navigating it around 35 mph.
The Valley of Fire was cool, almost felt like you were riding on Mars. There were miles and miles of twisty roads with imposing cliffs and rock formations all around you with not a hint of civilization in sight... that was definitely the best part. Lake Mead was hoohum and the Hoover Dam was okay. I have respect for the engineering marvel and the men who do it but I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone other than to say you were there. We stopped by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on our way out and actually saw a bike school taking place. Talk about low danger when the only thing you can hit is a portapotty.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something... oh well. Enjoy.

Mechanically the car is sound except that the clutch is starting to go out. I could help anyone who bought the car replace it at cost + some beer.

Quote:Motor racing is dangerous, we all know that.
Dale Earnhardt, Ayrtton Senna, Jim Clark... the list is endless. Sometimes however, a lesser known name also dies in a support race and it's easy for that name to slip through the ether.
On Friday, in a support race to the legendary Australian motor race, the Bathurst 1000 around the famous Mount Panorama circuit, a 31 year old gentleman racer was involved in a dreadful, unfortunate side-on crash.
View the YouTube footage here...
Mark passed away at 5:45pm, some 30 minutes after the Bathurst 1000 had finished. He had been on life support that whole time. Spare a thought for his wife and 1 year old child.
My main reason for posting this thread is to remind us all - side impacts remain the most dangerous impacts of all - even with the magnificent computer designed roll cages which go into modern race cars.

| Gauging interest: Subwoofer setup for STi! |

Sup guys!
I'm gauging interest on this, because I'm still debating whether I want install this stuff, because my STi might be going a stripped out route in the future.
I have an Evolution Auto custom-built carpeted 10" sub enclosure for the STi. It's designed to fit perfectly inside the driver's side wheel well in the trunk. Mounted in it is a brand new 10" Alpine Type R subwoofer, which has only been hooked up once to test it. It sounds LOUD in this sealed box. I was honestly really surprised how loud it was hah... it's supposedly one of the better 10" subs out there.
To power it I have a refurbished Orion 600W amp. This setup is basically all ready to go into an STi... and like I said I'm still debating whether I want to put it in, considering the direction I'm going with the project now and how little I drive the car.
If anyone is really interested, PM me and we'll talk about pricing. I can get some pictures of everything tonight when I get home from work.

So, you may have seen in my sig and in the tech forum that I have a 1971 Dodge Challenger (base +V8 ). It was my dad's second car, and the one he drove while he was here at Madison College. So, I hope by my senior year to be finally doing the same. Let it be known that when we started this ordeal the goal for finish date was my Senior PROM. So in this 5+ year restoration process father and I have drifted apart (him into apathy, me into...the Daytona) and there is no real ideas for where this car is going as far as its look. As soon as the Daytona is done (and the van is fixed) this car becomes TOP priority. I will not be buying any other turbodoges accept for parts.
I will start by saying we cannot change the yellow color. We have already painted the engine bay, trunk, and door jams.
Questions-
-Do I stick with the white interior we bought for it, or do I sell it as a complete interior and buy black?
![[Image: 731251_4_full.jpg]](http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/731000-731999/731251_4_full.jpg)
Our interior looks just like this one. The differences are the seats, doors, and headliner are white. The dash, console, and carpet however are black. I have the wood grain and wheel like that.
-Stock wheels? It has the rallys on it, 15X6. I was kinda inspired by those "jap classic" cars. I was thinking maybe if I kept the white interior and did white wheels w/ a black lip.
-Flat black accents- This follows with either the white or black interior. I think we should do some sort of striping in flat black with a flat black hood.
![[Image: 2417049_1_full.jpg]](http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/5/web/2417000-2417999/2417049_1_full.jpg)
-Lip? Spoiler? (above) I'm kinda diggin this for some reason... In flat black of course.
![[Image: 71challenger.jpg]](http://www.c2e.info/core/images/71challenger.jpg)
Note that this is a 70, and the stripes above are 70. I like the 70 stripes way more then 71, so those are a winner, but the 71 front end is mucho mas...
![[Image: 731251_1_full.jpg]](http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/731000-731999/731251_1_full.jpg)
One final note for this post. Our hood is like the one on the primer car. Simple flat. There are two other hoods for this car we could use. One has a huge scoop on it (six-pack) the other is like the one on the red car. We will likely be getting a fiberglass replica of the one on the red car.
So, IÔÇÖm open to other suggestions. Please save any sentiment of ÔÇ£put in a hemi,ÔÇØ ÔÇ£put in a 4-speed,ÔÇØ ÔÇ£paint it another color,ÔÇØ ÔÇ£boost and/or nos,ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Restore it back stock,ÔÇØ or anything that would undo work already done.
