Wanted: Fender Roller Borrow in NoVA
Posted by: xvxax - 08-04-2009, 10:13 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (4)

I know someone in the MM house or nearby owns a fender roller, but I don't remember who has it now.
I'd really like to borrow it before this weekend if possible. It appears my new tires don't clear my rear fenders. Any way I can pick it up Thursday and return it Friday after work? Thanks!

Probably the best 5 minutes I've ever spent on youtube. Kudos to the rally loonies, and one of the greatest and most demanding motorsports of all time.

2 Sets of FNo1RCs, tires galore
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 08-04-2009, 09:32 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (4)

Alright so I need to get my garage somewhat in order, so I need to get rid of especially larger items, so wheels/tires need to go. Most of my engine parts are gone so these need to go. Come and get em!

1 set of 18x8.5 5zigen FNO1RCs in hyper black in 5x114.5 +30 offset. They definitely have a bit of curbish but are straight. The tires are pretty much close to the point of failing inspection, they are usueable, just not new tires. Looking for 600 for these bad bodys.

1 set of freshly powderdercoated fno1rcs in gunmetal. 17x9 5x114.5 +35 offset. These will come either bare or with a set of 255/40/17 used Toyo RA1s. 800 bucks.

  Fo' Free: 1979 Volvo Wagon
Posted by: Jake - 08-02-2009, 08:29 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (22)

My friend called me just now wondering if any of you MMers would want a project car. Her beloved Volvo is no more. It's a 1979 245DL wagon, automatic, with about 200k miles.

She said a belt snapped while she was driving, which led to another belt or two snapping, and supposedly the engine overheated and warped the head or something. She is not mechanically inclined and wants it gone - her mom is getting a new car and passing along the old one.

It'll have to be towed - located in Arlington VA. It's a sweet car and in decent shape aside from the motor. She and I both really don't want to see it scrapped, so I was thinking it could be a neat project car. Of course... I don't have the space to keep it around.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I will put you in touch with her.

It looks mostly like this, only more faded and less running:

good news about meineke, p.s. please vote for me!
Posted by: cafleen - 08-02-2009, 06:25 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (2)

Hey all, for those of you that didn't read or don't remember (it was a year ago) I posted on here about shiesty Meineke off of South Main Street. They told me I needed to replace my rear brake pads on my WRX when I didn't need to (they were well over the minimum requirement) and then refused to pass my car for inspection. They refused to take another look at the pads when I disputed them (after taking the car home and looking at them/taking pictures of them/posting them up here for confirmation), and then-- when i proved them wrong, they refused to give me the refund they promised me.

So I brought the state trooper in, he checked my brake pads, then he wrote up Meineke for being douchebags. And after I tried to get my refund back again, he told me to "get off his property".

Well, this is old news now, but kind of new news to me-- but they FINALLY CLOSED DOWN. THANK GOD. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on here for supporting me and offering me advice on the situation. I eventually took the car to Shenandoah Automotive per someone's suggestion, and they were pretty great.

Also side note-- I'd appreciate it if you guys could vote for me in this contest I'm in! http://madmencastingcall.amctv.com/photo...hoto.score. All you have to do is click the 5 stars. You can vote once a day, and the contest ends in about a week so I'd really appreciate all of your votes!

Thanks guys. Also I regret to say I've graduated from JMU and I never bought a MM sticker.. Sad

  Project 10AE Miata
Posted by: Goodspeed - 08-02-2009, 02:58 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (238)

First off, big thank you's go out to everyone who helped in the search and answered my questions, especially Shea (who also found this car) and Evan who took the time to show me his '99. Once his is ready for sale I encourage anyone who is in the market to take a good look at that car.

Here it is:

Details
- 1999 10th Anniversary Miata
- All stock save for Hard Dog bar
- 87k miles

I picked it up yesterday, Sat. the 1st (a week and one day after selling the Supra) in Strasburg, VA. It was previously owned by a VW dealer tech from Roanoke who bought a Subaru wagon for his kayak and outdoors equipment (that obviously a Miata falls short in carrying). Its all stock besides the bar, and has the typical 10AE stuff including Sports and PEP package items and a 6 speed.

Purpose

The "Project" in the title may be misleading, at least for a little bit. I don't immediately plan on wrenching on the car, but time will tell what my budget allows for the near future. However, this is a car I intend to learn a lot with, both with a wrench in hand and in the driver's seat. After the Supra, I wanted a newer, simpler car that had limits that were both readily achievable and comfortable to attain. The old adage that a lighter, smaller car will be more of an enjoyable driver's car in everyday situations is definitely true, as I've already tossed it around a little bit and its polar opposites from the ol' MKIII. I'm hoping to take this car to auto-x events and eventually into some sort of DE track program.

I've only put ~50 miles on it since buying it as I type this, but already I can tell this is a car that will bring much enjoyment. I still have a few Q's for the MM Miata gang though Smile :

- Little issue: the Nardi shift knob is...broken? This was the only issue I could find while inspecting the car and obviously is a minor issue. Basically, the knob is screwed down, but freely rotates. Its as if the knob itself seperated from its inner threaded shaft, and yet you can't simply pull it off. No idea how it happened, any ideas?

- 3500+ rpm in sixth at 70mph? Maybe its a low-torque, low displacement I-4 thing I'm not used to, but are these really that "buzzy" on the highway? Leagues different than the cruiser Supra...I guess it won't be that great on gas, but oh well.

Plans

I'll probably try to do the timing belt/water pump before too long. It doesn't show in the paperwork, and the PO thought he remembered being told it had been done, but better to be safe than sorry.

In the future, I'd like to do things like Koni's and Azeni's, just light suspension and brake work.

Well, thats about it, we'll be seeing you 8)

FS: Mille Miglia Wheels / Goodyear GS-D3 Tires
Posted by: ViPER1313 - 07-30-2009, 02:51 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (7)

Selling the wheels off my Talon as seen below - the offset is just not right for the car. Bolt pattern is 5x114.3, size is 16x8. Tires are 225/50R16 and pretty well worn - you might be able to drive them for 2 track sessions or a few thousand miles on the street. They are great in the dry but can be a handful in the wet. Finish on the front wheels is pretty f-ed up from the HPS Blue track pads and a year's worth of brake dust - they cleaned up alright as seen below but I still couldn't remove all brake dust. The finish is gone in one or 2 spots on one wheel (wore through with sandpaper.)

$200 for the lot.

  Miata Hard Top
Posted by: Dragon - 07-29-2009, 10:31 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (2)

Well I sold the Miata to a buddy who totaled his SM. He had no need for the hard top so it's up for sale. It was on my '90, however it's the hard top with the defroster if yours has that option.

$1K

  Coworker's New Beetle F/S
Posted by: Jake - 07-29-2009, 09:55 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (4)

I told one of my managers that I'd post her car on here just in case someone knew someone who would want it.

It's a 2003 VW New Beetle convertible with the 1.8T motor. Automatic. Silver paint with black cloth top and black leather interior. It has heated seats but she says it's otherwise fairly basic. According to Edmunds.com, the turbo cars are the GLS trim.

About 110k miles, she's looking for $9k. I have an idea what sort of response this will get on this forum, but if your girlfriend's friend's grandma wants a 'cute convertible' I can pass along Lori's contact info.
