Bike day w/ TPM @ VIR 9/13, Cookout on 12th!
Posted by: BLINGMW - 08-09-2009, 10:40 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (11)

Alright, here's another opportunity for any first timers. Or just a fun/easy party weekend for the seasoned. TPM @ VIR Patriot on Sunday and cookout & crash at my house the evening beforehand. AND if there is interest, I'm also considering monday on North course. We'll see. If you're a first timer, $199 with no membership fee gets you rental leathers and in-class instruction with the day.

Anyone in? Come just for the RB&V or for the track day, or both! I can sleep maybe 4 or 5 here without Jess demanding some sort of sacrifice.

Does anyone in the club have one and wouldn't mind me using it? I need to replace the front wheel bearings on the Talon ASAP.

I'm transferring up to JMU this fall, I met Jake at a BRR SCCA autox and he told me all about MM. I told him to sign me up.

You won't miss me driving around campus. Big Grin

I'll be in Rockingham if anyone wants to meet up for a joyride or anything. Facebook me too! Joey Klimchuk.

 fuel gone bad
Posted by: stevegula - 08-06-2009, 10:14 AM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (5)

So both of my motorcycles have been sitting around for the better part of a year doing nothing. I would assume at this point the fuel is bad. Recommendations on how to clean the system out and such? Right now the intention is to drain the tanks (how does one dispose of bad fuel?), drain the lines as best as possible, replace fuel filters and possibly injectors. Then run through clean gas and some sort of cleaner at idle until the neighbors get pissed.

 Attn BMW owners: scan tool
Posted by: Dave - 08-06-2009, 09:34 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (8)

I'm considering getting a scan tool for resetting maintenance lights and and checking CELs, but wanted to see if anybody had any recommendations or experiences that they could provide.

I'm considering this: http://www.peakeresearch.com/fcx3.htm

Also, if anybody already has one and is willing to share/rent it, that'd be good to know. Otherwise I'll probably end up getting it and will rent it to MMers if they need it.

 80-89 Porsche
Posted by: Steve85 - 08-05-2009, 10:49 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (54)

We drove by a used car dealer "Toy Store" in PA this past weekend and a Porsche really jumped out at me. It looked just like the 930 poster I had on my wall as a kid. I contacted the dealer and he called it an 83 "Turbo". From my research, it should have all the suspension, brake and body parts from a Euro 930 but no actual turbo.

I'm really looking to get into something different, in about a year, maybe spring, if I get real itchy, and being more of a car guy than a Vette guy, I'd like to experience something completely different. It helps that the Porsche has jusssst enough back seat to suit the weekend duties. (soccer, tee-ball...)

I've starting reading a little bit, Motor Trend has a "buying guide" that provided some useful info about various changes through the years. And I saw another article about what to look for when buying. I'm looking for something a little more hands on though...

Just curious if you guys know someone that's owned one or talked to folks running them at the track. If I wanted to HPDE a couple times a year am I looking at huge dollars for consumables? What are my chances at having an 80K, 100K, 120K mile Porsche survive a few HPDEs? (Assumption: stays on track, pointed forward) Will an air-cooled car really survive a hot day in traffic? Any other words of wisdom, anecdotes, etc.
