A motorcycle AND a car and harrisonburg? Oh my!
Posted by: SlimKlim - 06-04-2010, 11:21 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (11)

Okay, so I'll probably end up owning a motorcycle by the time we go back to school and I'll want to have it in town, as well as my car. I sort of assumed Sunchase would sell me another pass but when I called today I was completely shot down, she told me, rather briskly, to "pick one or the other."

Well we all know that's not going to happen, so I was wondering what other people have done. Sunchase seems to be managed pretty well, which is awesome when your dishwasher breaks but bad when you are trying to bend the rules, so leaving it in a vistors spot all year would definitely get noticed.

I could park both of them in one spot as long as I had an end spot against a curb, and since I would always have one vehicle in my spot, once i staked one out it would pretty much be mine all year. But again, Sunchase would notice it didn't have a pass on it, and sue me for millions, so I feel like I'd have to sell them on the idea.

So lets say I can't get them to compromise, maybe Charleston still won't have passes next year but that would give me separation anxiety and all sorts of stuff just leaving it somewhere. Our apartment is on the second floor so no keeping it in the laundry room (that was poor planning). Only other things I can think if is to pay for storage somewhere, or trade Cabell rides for storage at his place. Both of those options mean I have to plan ahead as to which vehicle I want nearby, and modify my sunchase pass to be easily swapped between the two of them.

Any suggestions?

Any of you guys play?

I am becoming obsessed with golf. I try to play at least once or twice a week. I just got back from a golf trip over Memorial Day weekend at a fantastic Arnold Palmer course up in WVA. It is a yearly trip some of my buddies and I go on and it is a friendly tournament. Well this year I won it with a buddy of mine for the first time ever. I was talking to my friend on the trip and I realized that golf for me is now what I would consider a sport that I play and not just a hobby.

I wish I had picked it up at a younger age, but my family didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up and it is just flat out an expensive sport. And it's not one that you can just go out to a field or court somewhere and play it, you have to spend a lot and go out to a course. I don't care what anyone says, a driving range is not the same as playing a round of golf. I use the driving range just to get the kinks out of my swing and warm up before I play a round.

So yeah are any of you guys playing regularly? What clubs are you swinging? I just picked up a new driver today because I have been driving with my 3 wood for the past 2 years (I could never hit a driver straight). After this weekend though I realized that I could probably take another 2-3 strokes off my game if I could get another 40-50 yards out of my drives. At absolute best I can hit my 3 wood 250-280 yards, but usually average about 210-215.

As far as irons and hybrid I'm hitting a set of custom KZGs I had tailored for me by a local club maker. Unbelievable how much better I hit them than off-the-shelf Pings, Adams, Callaway etc. irons. I would highly recommend them as a good move-up set if you're just starting out and outgrow your old clubs.

I have a General Electric glass top electric range and matching microwave/hood. Black in color. Date code is 2005 production installed in 2006 I believe. I replaced the main burner in the range about a year ago. I'm looking for $500 for the pair. $400 to anyone in MM. I can post pics if there is any interest.

Cars You Like But Know You Shouldn't

Fess up, what's your guilty pleasure? I know Jake likes pretty much anything he can drive that's awful in some way, but as far as normal people are concerned, we all have a model or two we have a huge soft spot for and probably shouldn't.

For me, Mercedes Benz W124 E-classes. Why? I don't know. I have a general distaste for almost any Mercedes unless its very old, very unique, or very powerful (Like that new SL Black thing). Most of them are incredible boring. However, we have a little Burgundy 280E that we use as a parts/customer/errand runner. It's miserably slow, features mule-kick shifts, the odometer is broken and the paint is seriously lacking. The radio works when it feels like it and the a/c is abysmal. However, I drive it every time I get the chance, and love it to death. Can't explain it, can't justify it, but I know if my boss walked up and asked if I wanted to buy that thing for $500, I wouldn't even think about it.

I also have a dirty love for Jaguar E-types. I know they are complete rubbish. We got a british racing green 1969 in at the shop and the lucas electronics and oil leakage jokes started flying. But when I detailed it to prep it for the lot I started appreciating the little nuances of the design of the thing. And then when I got a chance to drive it for a few minutes I was head over heels. hitting 40mph brings an irresistible, illegal smile to your face, and it doesn't go away until you shut the car off, or when it breaks down...

  Anyone around for the summer?
Posted by: HJCarey - 06-02-2010, 10:24 AM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (2)

Hey everyone, just joined up today and am looking to get to know people. Riding solo is rather boring so I'm hoping some of you guys are in town for the summer.

I'm currently without bike due to technical issues with my old one, but I've got a K8 gsxr 600 being shipped this Thursday, June 3rd, and should be arriving early next week. So starting next week I'm free for riding. I'm working 9-5 during the week on campus, but I've got most weekends free, and I'm down for riding after I get off work.

If anyone is interested in riding, drop me a PM, post here, or whatever. Maybe we can get some group rides going or something.

Hey all,

I am also named Jake, seems like this is a popular name around here. I'll be going into my 5th year here at JMU as a physics major and for some reason I never joined up with MM, better late than never I guess. Anyway, I've been into cars for as long as I can remember, my dad is a big sports car buff, especially for all things Italian. However, I myself have leaned more toward motorcycles, so I'll be spending most of my time daring the two wheeled journeys.

I've been riding since 2004, got my motorcycle permit the first legal day I could and have been lucky enough to bum off my dad's 2004 Ducati 749 for the past 6 years. Due to some technical problems with the bike that no one has been able to fix no matter how many times they have tried we are currently trying to get rid of it. I found a good deal on a K8 gsxr 600 that'll be arriving in a few days so that'll be my new ride for the time being.

I'm interested in cars, don't know too much more than how to drive them though, always eager to learn. If anyone is around for the summer I'll be here in Harrisonburg for all of it, let me know and we can hit the road.

Hopefully I can find some pics of the Duc and post them when I get back from work.
