Need help picking out a car for a friend!
Posted by: JustinG - 10-06-2011, 01:36 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (29)

Trying to find a car for my god sons mother as her DD, fun to drive and a 3rd pedal need not apply.

Figured I could get some good ideas from you guys.

Ok so here are some stipulations:

Reliable/easy to maintain/cheap parts
Year: I am gonna say 06 or newer
Price: $18k, lower the better
Mileage: Reasonable for the car/make
Size: Wagon or Small/Medium SUV
MPG: Doesn't need to get 40mpg, but in the 20s would be stellar.
Creature comforts: Leather, heated seats arent must haves but nice. I am assuming if its an SUV AWD/4WD is a plus as well.

Now this car doesn't need to tow, doesn't need to go fast, doesn't need to be fun to drive. Size is not negotiable, so no "She doesn't need an SUV,tell her to buy a miata or a civic coupe".

If it helps, im trying to save her from buying a used Ford Freestyle, which she likes, for some reason????

Thoughts?

 G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up Full)
Posted by: Sully - 10-06-2011, 01:16 AM - Forum: Events - Replies (62)

This is the thread to sign up for the Fall Kart Enduro at G-Force on November 12th. It will cost $30 for students and you spot is not secured until you pay. Your name can go on the list but if it fills up and you havn't paid, it will go to the first one who pays. I will update this post with a list of drivers after you repsond in this thread. Need to have dues paid to get a spot. When spots are gone, they are gone so sign up early and pay as soon as possible. Sorry, becasue of the way this event works, we cannot offer a refund if you change your mind but with the high demand for spots, you can usually find someone to pay you for your spot. If you do paypal, make sure to do personal, payment owed to get around those pesky little fees. Our paypal address is madisonmotorsports@gmail.com

New Members: Go here Clicky Pow to enter the chance to win a paid G-Force spot courtesy of Kaan. The rules are at the bottom of the page and post your pictures within that thread when entering. This is only for new members. If you pay to secure your spot and then win Kaan's Karting Giveaway, you will be reimbursed you entry fee.

All Current Members: Edit: We will most likely leave Saturday morning around 7AM from the bookstore.

We will return to campus Saturday afternoon after possible post race lunch and bs'n about the awesome driving that just took place.

Alumni: You know what to do. Hopefully [Image: 1shifty.gif]. Your cost is $40 as usual.

Teams will be chosen either at random the morning of or we will just split up on our own. The on your own worked pretty well last time so expect that. G-force provides helmets but if you would prefer to wear your own, bring it. We will be on teams of 4 and the enduro will last 2 hours meaning driving will consist of two 15 minute sessions per person.

All drivers must be at G-Force by 9:30AM

Unpaid Spots will not be held after November 2nd. That is also the date at which we will open up spots to friends of MM

 Lauren, new here
Posted by: laurennash - 10-06-2011, 12:11 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (4)

Hey everyone!

I'm Lauren. I'm a freshman, hopefully majoring in biology soon. I don't have a car yet, but I hope to get one soon. I love Mustangs, especially the new Mustang Boss. I've been interested in cars for a few years now. Don't know a lot but I really want to learn as much as I can.
I can't wait to get to know everyone and their cars.

So the car has a salvage title from a passenger side collision (passenger front door was replaced) and some dents that could probably be removed by paintless dent guys. The salvage title part needs a few more questions answered.
The car books for 8,000 stock.
Is this a potentially awesome deal as long as the frame is good and the car tracks straight and tires wear evenly?

PMs go to Outbox instead of being delivered
Posted by: Steve85 - 10-05-2011, 12:27 PM - Forum: Site Suggestions/Status - Replies (5)

Anyone else have this issue. PMs go to my Outbox when I hit submit and sit there. I open it from the Outbox and there is no "Send" button. I have made a few to go through but I have to reply to the PM from my Outbox. HALP!!

 Off road adventure anyone?
Posted by: premiershine9 - 10-05-2011, 10:49 AM - Forum: Events - Replies (87)

To all of us who have 4wd and like it low and slow-
Anyone want to chime in and get a group together to head out to springs or somewhere else <1 hour away say around November to do a little wheeling?
I have to correct a few things- sway bar disco's, new meats, fluids, power steering pump etc. before I'm gonna go out and thrash the heep again and if we get something together now we'll have enough time to plan ahead.

Cody and all- I will mention it tonight at the meeting and maybe we can work something out.
That is all.

Just saw this, good price, $220 for the full package, normally retails for $300, located in Alexandria.

FS: NASA Credits = discounted track time
Posted by: Dave - 10-03-2011, 08:56 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (6)

We've uncovered my wife's worker credits from a few years ago, and since we won't be needing any track time soon I'd like to liquidate them.
Current track rates seem to be around $339 for Summit weekends, or $374 for weekends at VIR. I have 4 credits, which equate to 2 full weekends worth, and I highly doubt you're going to be seeing these prices go down any time soon.

$650 gets them all

For the mathematically challenged, that would be a $28 discount if you used them for Summit weekends, but if you're really smart and used them at VIR, then you'd save $98.

Hello All!

I am selling an awesome car. It is a 1991 Caddy Brougham. This car has been in my family since new. It was owned first by my great uncle, then my grandfather, then my father. It spent most of her life in Florida and Virginia.

My father put some body work into it a few years ago. He had it painted the original dark silver, the windows tinted (not too dark), and he had a 12 disc CD changer/head unit installed. All maitanence has been up to date and it never waited to get into the garage.

The car runs amazingly. I have driven it from Virginia to Montreal with no problems. The steering wheel feels like cutting through warm butter when you turn it. The power delivery is smooth. Brakes work. All electronics work. Big ol' comfy power seats with an array of seating adjustments. A living room on wheels. It has been babied its whole life and has been treated nicely by responsible adults who all appreciate automobiles.

This car is fully loaded from the factory. This is the last year it was offered with rwd and a 350 v8 sport edition. The street value of this car is higher than the KBB value.

The vinyl top could be replaced, but it is not in ridiculously ratty shape. There is a rip on an arm rest in the the interior.

This car is already a classic. Whenever I drive the car I get compliments from all generations of people and a lot of looks.

My father would like $3500 firm or a trade for a miata with equal value.

Thanks for looking. I will post pictures soon.

-Matt
